  1. Oh, I know but your skin just tells you hot. Good ventilation is a prerequisite. I was 19 at the time, live and learn... Amazing I have lived this long...
  2. Got one of those new fangled dash cams.
  3. Nice. I look forward to seeing other pictures when you get a helmet cam or a Nanny cam. Dennis

I have a plastic paint booth sort of like you have with a fan and filter set up so bugs aren't normally a problem. I don't want to paint the car in pieces because I have been told the shading may not be right if I don't lay down the same amount of paint on all the panels. Since I don't paint a lot I have a better shot at painting the car assembled so the variations from panel to panel are minimized. So the car will be 90% complete when I spray the outside...
  5. Woah, woah, woah now... You're talking about just the clothes, right? Nobody wearing them. I just want to make that perfectly clear before this thread takes an ugly (and I mean uuuugg-ly) turn.
  6. Okay, I'm sorry I missed the gloves, but if y'all became adults together? Chica chica down now!
  7. Nobody wearing a space suit ? !
  8. People are cautious when selecting cams and not getting too big, but these motors do fine and stay civil for the street. I wouldn't recommend anything less than 270/480 and it would be perfectly streetable . love it when a plan(engine ) comes together !!!
  9. Another word, gravity! Knee-balls
  10. All this talk about driving and cycling gloves reminded me of my Mountain Biking days... 25 years ago. Rummaged through a drawer and found some of my Lycra cycling shirts ( in Neon colors of course ) and my Spandex cycling shorts. One word now... Nope!!
  11. It had been together for several years. I don't know how long exactly. I never put anything in the cylinders and it was nice and loose when I turned it over by hand while doing the valve adjustment.
  12. Well..Friday night, we got it all buttoned up...colortuned..timing set...carbs synced and put the hood on... . I put a few miles on it and thought the timing must be off or something.....it just sounded "off". Came back to the garage, checked the timing...which looked good. Then I looked down and saw the #5 plug wire just hanging there....doh! As you can imagine...ran a hell of a lot better after I put that back on! Saturday I drove it a bunch and now have 115 miles on it. So...it time to change the oil when I get a chance this week. But, so far..no leaks, smoke or any issues at all! Runs very nice, pulls smoothly. I've obviously been keeping the revs down while it breaks in, but it is already obvious how much more power this engine has. The big cam by the way...seems to pull on the street down low just fine! Totally streetable. The idle is certainly rougher and more lopey than stock,(which I think sounds awesome)... but it smooths right out as soon as you come off idle. I know it will really shine once I'm able to really let it pull to redline. Can't wait to drive it more! A couple pics...my friend it editing together a video he shot of the whole engine install and first test drive..should have it sometime this week.... 13. Half of my shirts and other clothes are from the Salvation Army store! You gotta look through every shirt, sweater, jacket, etc., but you can find like-new things for $1 or $2... I found some name-brand Cargo shorts for $2.50- $29 at Macy's.

not with the paint but i did when doing the primer. not a good idea. i managed to hit the fresh primer with the hose and my backside a few times. with this paint, i did it from the outside. it was a pain, but i came out ok. the rest of the car should be a breeze!

I did it the latter way. Sound deadened the interior and underside after priming, then "jambed" the car out on the rack (interior, ceiling, under the car, cowl area, door jambs, door interiors, hatch interior areas and engine bay). I am still working on finish painting the suspension. Then run all the lines under the car add suspension then put it on the wheels. Do most of the assembly then finish paint. That means less chance to mess up the fresh paint, hopefully...
  16. I used to wear white jeans in high school, but I was a bit more athletic then. if I could find a nice jacket a la Steve McQueen or a vintage sports car driver, I'd put together a nice costume for Zed driving. OH- Plus a turtleneck... P.S..... We are chatting most evenings 8-11pm (eastern U.S.)
  17. When I got my Z a few months ago I noticed those clamp on style terminals (where you cut off the orig end and just replace that and not the cable). I tried to find a correct cable (4 ga with 2 assy terms one for the EFI and one for the chassis ground) but could not find one on line. I ended up going to advance auto and for about 15$ I got a 48" neg with the two leads that had crimp on ends attached. Cut it down to about 24" and removed the plastic on the crimp on ends so I could solder in the EFI and ground lead. Finished up with some heat shrink. Solder on copper lug for the connection at the starter mounting bolt. Looks a lot better and I hope will be trouble free (never know about the quality of the part in the 1st place but I figure it has to be better than that rigged up deal I started with).

I finally found some grip tape that will serve me well I think. I tried some from the hardware store, but felt like it is not rough enough, it has worn down already. This tape is X-Coarse Anti Slip Tape High Grip Adhesive Backed. It was the coarsest I could find, and cheaper than the full skateboard size. It is 50mm X 1 meter, so I'll not have to cut it out, just trim it off. I ordered it from the UK. I have a pair of shoes that work perfect, and I plan to put a matching piece if the tape on the ball of the foot, to the front edge of the shoe. Then just wear the left shoe, using it against the pedal that is covered with the same tape. And changing the shoe when I get out of the car. I do believe I will not slip at all that way. Posting this for the several who offered ideas, to let you all know the latest. More later on how effective this is.
  19. It's really just basic cycling stuff. I also had some Lycra gloves with an American flag motif (for the 1984 Olympics) and some others I got for free, and don't remember or have that stuff, but I still have the flag gloves. I don't think I'll wear the flag gloves for the Zed, unless it really, REALLY hot. You can find the gloves at lots of places like: Amazon.com, Nashbar.com, performancebike.com, and other cycling stores. You probably have a cycling store near you. Be careful not to buy the new rubberized stuff
  20. Picked up a spare headlight switch for $40 at a local import shop. Had a tour of the facility with the car club. Some nice cars in there!
  21. The roof is one of those panels that can be hard to get smooth and looking good. If you apply too much pressure the metal flexes and the material doesn't sand off evenly. I have found that using a little more aggressive paper and fairly soft pressure works good. Just have to be patient and keep blocking until it's right. The lower doors skins, the flats on the hood and especially the lower part of the hatch are the same way
  22. What a neat story. I am one of those kids too except I pitched a fit and ended up with the model but my Dad wouldn't let me play with it. He put up on the "top shelf" thank goodness or I would have destroyed it.
