I have the opportunity to buy a 1979 280ZXR with 56k original miles and have some questions. I'm not a Z car guy so I thought I would ask here. Car is all original and the interior is excellent. I know about the rail issues underneath but have not looked at them yet. For now let's assume they are ok. Car is in the midwest but never driven in winter. It Runs great and is mechanically solid. Chrome is all good. It needs a paint job however. Good news is the owner has an unused set of decals for it. (And don't ask, they are not for sale). My question is what's a car like this worth restored? And what is a fair price as is? Z prices seem to be all over the map. This one is…

I am looking at a 1981 2+2 with 40,000 miles. The original owner says the ar was rust proofed. Yet he replaced both front fenders because of rust. I'm not impressed with the over look of a car with only 40,000 miles on it. Yes it is 28 years old. Could the odomiter have been disconectted? Anything I should look at? He is asking $7,000. I'm thinking more like $5,000. Thanks!

So I am going to acquire a 1979 280ZX Automatic in a couple weeks that needs some work. He says it hasn't run in about a year, needs fuel pump and sending unit etc. My question is about the automatics, are they decent or is it better to go for a manual version of the car? I am probably going to use it as a daily driver so no power adders or anything more than likely. I am pretty sure I am not going to get hurt on the price either way, I am sure I could part it out and get my money back I mean the alloy wheels have to be worth something right or the glass or something?? Thanks for your thoughts. Justin

Hey guys I have a 240z that I have lightly modded and won't do a swap with. However I do have a rolling chassis 240z as well. I came across a 280zxt with 220,000 miles on it that ran a month ago, turns over currently, but does not start. It rows through the gears fine and the drive train looks straight. I want the drive train parts of course to put into my rolling chassis. The exterior and interior are aged of course, all those miles. I have no idea what this 280zxt should be worth. Any ideas?

Does anyone know what the font is for the 280ZX lettering? I am going to write a report on my 81 280ZX and I would like the cover page to have the same font as was used on the car.

I've been told that my z is a gold edition car? it is all black with tan leather, 2 seater, gold wheels, thick gold pin striping. Is this a common z, or a gold edition, of some sort? I want to sell it to make room for another toy, but can't find anything online to verify if it has any "special interest". Just curious, any help would greatly be appreciated. This car is 100% original, 5-speed, with no rust anywhere. joeslist@gmail.com

Hello members, I'm getting use to your forums so this is a repeat of my post on another forum in this site so please forgive and bear with me. The dome light in our '79 ZX will not be illuminated by opening the doors. The courtesy lights under the dash work fine and when the hatch lever is pulled, the dome light comes on. When the manual slide - on-door-off is used, the dome light illuminates. I have delved into the door pin switch both inside and outside the pillar. All connections are made and are clean. I have pulled out the dome light assembly. All connections are made and the connector is clean. I suspect the issue is in the dome light assembly but I don't want to…

Help me please! This will be a fun area for you smarter mechanics out there who love to watch a young car enthusiast start a quest for his very own machine. My car is awesome. I love my z. But it just doesn't kick enough tail to match my attitude. I need some small hints on how to make it a little more... beefy. I would like more power, and possibly volume. I want people to respect my little in-line six. But if it keeps getting its pride kicked by low power and quiet farting engine noises, it won't get very far. So... anything helps. Keep in mind i don't have proper funding or tools to do the big overhaulin' most of you would do to it. Thank you!
