As an owner of a 1970 240Z with many original BRE parts fitted to it back in period by the original owner, I wondered how many other 240Z are out there so equipped. I found parts were sold by both BRE and later Interpart from 1972, covering every aspect of the 240Z from body to suspension and the engine as well. Seems everything from improved road performance to all out racer were catered for. There was a 1971 240Z on BAT recently that had lots of the original upgrades: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-datsun-240z-177/

I posted in another thread on air cleaners and had a funny thought. I've not been a purist in my Z ownership which may have had an effect on my feelings of "originality". Here's a couple of shots of my engine bay, then 2015 (but it hadn't changed since 1993) and now 2022. Interesting... Then Now Yea, I changed a couple of things.

Hey all, the previous owner left me without an air filter. I just cleaned the carbs and working on building out the rest of the intake. What filtering system would you recommend? Common ones I'm seeing are: Ramflo Air Cleaner ITG Single Air Cleaner ITG Dual Air Cleaner K&N Air Cleaner K&N Carburetor Air Filter Set UNI Air Filter Set Stock Air Filter

I’m curious, can’t seem to find much info googling around. What shift knob did the 1977 280z 4 speed come with? Leather wrapped or plastic, believe they both had the green facing. I would love to locate the correct one.

Well Folks, I'm back, confident that all here can get past previous personal issues, to lend a helping hand toward finding a workable solution for an issue of our common interest in the beloved Zs. I believe this latest Version reflects the very helpful advice most generously offered previously, and I am hopeful it is much closer to being successful. Adjustments in this iteration:: Correction of a graphics error (my Bad) that wrongly depicted the low beam feed to the relay as a "tap" instead of the intended "diversion". Mr.J, I now see where you were coming from; and of course, based on the evidence I provided (again,my Bad), you were, at least on this po…

Photos-001 (1).zipPhotos-001 (1).zipPhotos-001 (1).zipPhotos-001 (1).zipPhotos-001 (1).zipI am working with a detailer who proposed a paint restoration job on my 1971 240-Z. It was last painting in the late 70s and they did demonstrate that they could improve the finish of the paint. However, after I got home I notice that they had also burned through the rear passenger side quarter panel where it meets that hatch. That compound curve is through the repaint and down at least t the original. That piece of metal includes the roof as well as the left and right quarter panels. I don't know how to approach this. I am prepping for sale and this just put a MAJOR hit on valu…

Hello The hot weather is here and with it comes vapor lock problems on my completely stock 1972 240Z. I have been plagued by this and it has left me stranded a couple times…at least until things cooled down. I know 73 and 74 Z’s were notorious for this problem, but I owned a 72 back in 72 and NEVER had this problem. Of course, we had ethanol free gas back then. Before we start tearing things apart and throwing parts at the problem, I decided to check temperatures around the engine compartment to see if I could nail down a likely problem area. I performed the following test on two 90 degree days. Each time the sequence of events was essentially the same. Sta…

I got the turbo on, but did not hook up the intake or outlet of the compressor. I check for oil flow by spinning the engine with the plugs out, seemed like quite a bit of oil came out from the bottom port on the turbo. I was concerned that it may starve the top of the engine (cam shaft) of oil so I pulled the valve cover to confrim oil was still flowing from the cam lobes (it was). So the moment of truth, it started right up (should as nothing changed but the added exhaust manifold and turbo). BUT there seemed to be a ton of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe, oil burning smoke. Since the engine did not smoke before the turbo I have to assume its oil from the turbo.…
