  1. jup, i got a clip on the chokecables feb 1971 (USA) car.. my '72 car had one too. that was a (Dutch) euro version.

Yesterday i warned a guy on a bicycle NOT to use his phone (he said for navigating) as it will cost him €480,- if he gets caught.. a few years ago a cycle racer almost drove over me wgen i was crossing the road.. i did this on purpose because i wanted to see if he noticed me.. he didn't and i shouted at him scaring the hell out of him! Personelly i think there must come a law where people have to put all their phones in a special pocket in the boot while driving, so they are not thempted to look at it! And if one still uses a phone while having a steering wheel of just a steer on the bike in hands i think the penalty should be €960,- (In our country cyclists are seen as drivers, and if they come from the right they have the right of way at an intersection of equal status!)

Also.. mechanics that check wheelbearings and stuff around the wheels with a tire iron and using the aluminum rims as a base to put force on something.. if i see that happen i'm asking him to stop or i'll put some force to something HE does not like! ;-) For the last 30 years i had a mechanic that did every APK (sort of MOT) every year on every car i have together with me and it has been GOLD. evry check-up costed me the standard 40 bucks and away i was, good for another year or even 2. Now these days cars of 50 years and older do not need any APK ( periodic roadworthiness inspection) .. and i think it's nonsens.. Our government thinks that people with that old cars are so much caring for their car that it does not need a inspection.. which i think should be at least every 5 years or so? In our country, things like shown in youtubes american " customers brought in" or something.. does not happen here.. i saw some cars in that "show" without any frooring in them and completely broken beams, gearboxes and and.. If a car in the netherlands has a rusty spot/hole as long as say 5 inches it's not roadworthy, it's illegal to drive that car any longer and you get high fines if you do. it first needs to get fixed properly!
  4. story.. I always do tires myself in a friends shop.. he does my APK sort of MOT.. AND i'm ALWAYS PRESENT once a mechanic wanted to do to my 300zxtt what go's wrong with every 240z engine beams.. i was furius and it did not happen as i refused it. i really had to stop him! it would have ruined my perfect 300zxtt! BUT.. But we have a big tireshop here in the village.. I needed a new tire on my wheelbarrel.. So i took the old one off and cleaned up nicely my rim, sanded it and painted it the original red color.. I went with it to the tire shop and asked the boss himself if he had a tire for me, yes we have, give me the rim and i install it for you for free! I said: no not necessary! I rather do it myself! No,NO,... he insisted.. He ran from his office to the tire shop and started work, he had in no time the tire on, at least that's what he thought.. on the lower side the inner tube was still hanging out.. every body knows what happened next haha, luckely i was standing on the other side of the shop. he started to fill the innertube and .. KABOOOEEEMMM !!!!!!! that was the end of my own inner tire! Now i got a new inner and outer tire for the price of a outer wheelbarrel tire.. but it shows how much go's wrong at firms with decades of experience... At least he didn't scratch the new paint! 😊

  7. Hi George, Not much experience with shocks, just do not forget to put some (used or old?) oil inbetween the chock and it's container.. it helps the cooling a lot! and it does not rust!
  8. Motorsport Auto | Z Store Has the complete set shock absorbers and springs. For 625 dollar. when you see costs for a "today modern car" this is VERY VERY SHEAP !! I don't get todays cars they are stupidly expensive and brake down all the time.. and just to change a bulb the whole bumper has to come of???!! Welcome to todays technology it's crazy!!! And then all those stupid gadgets,, what? a auto windscreenwiper?? I DECIDE WHEN TO WIPE .. stupid car.. auto lights? going into a little tunnel.. the light flicks ON, and stay on for about a minute. pure waist of energy.. i know.. but if a million cars do this it's a LOT of waisted energy.. Lights on all day.. stupid waist of energy.. are people blind these days.. lights on should be there for motorbikes only during the day.. just my opinion.
  9. Hahaha, site, thanks! Yeah, What can i ad.. My 280zx has still the original shocks, springs as it has a registered Dutch NAP of only 120000km on it! (It's also a 1979 280zx) If i needed some new shocks/springs i would contact KONI. I know that they make a very nice (Yellow??) shock absorber specially for the 280zx's.. springs i don't know.. i never really investigated it as my car is still 95+ % original. There is a big topic somewhere on here about KONI, use the search option.. Do you have a t-bar car.. i had 2.. and made a triangle under the hood so the chassis would be stronger, with a t-bar your windscreen breaks especially with the 2+2 chassis. The car body exhibits excessive torsion because of the length of the body. As my car is a slick roof it's not that neccessary to put a triangle in.
  10. ALSO, the original painted block has no paint on the waterplugs! (AND many other contact points, see pic in above reply) Who sees more differences.. (Besides the sensor welded stud near the sparkplug 5 hole.)
  11. I asked myself if it's normal that there is paint within the oilfilter cavity, but my 1979 N42 has it also.. BUT.. There should NOT be any paint on the contact surface of the oilcardridge !! 😀 so that new engine is a fake?? Blue paintwork also does not look as if it's 40+ years old! (I got a new painted block in my garage under a cover and was painted new in 1990.. it does not look that fresh! AND It was under a thick cover all these years! )
  12. Here a pic of my euro N42 head and N42 engineblock.. (Year is 1979.) @Zed Head I often see those gasket and oilseal sets for the L24-L28 engines, they have round, square and diamond shaped exhaust outlets so i'm not surprised to see those round ones. (The diamond called one is a hexagonal exhaustport.)

  14. Hi, quite a stir i made hihi... A 1979 eccs is without any microprocessor, i can tell you as a electronics engineer. Those round tin boxes (with cooling crown) are early integrated circuits, nice to see! Later on the plastic black boxes came. (Some are already on the printed circuit) The 6801 is a microprocessor and works with 0 and 1 signals of 0 and 5Volt. As far i know the switch was made between 1982 and 1983. Then analog "computing" became Digital computing where real microprocessors took over the work. I don't know for the USA But overhere in europe the 1983 280zx turbo was the first z with real processor in the managementsystem. (Europe never had a 280zx turbo before 1983!) All those boxes in 280z and 280zx were called ECCS until the 1983 turbo came out. (I belief..) (Don't hold me to it, i'm not a wizard, just remembering this stuff..) ;-)
  15. Hi Jan, You mention a ECU.. but a 280z has a ECCS.. looks like a ECU. but it's a analog computer. Only the latest 280zx has a ECU, which deals with digital signals. AND most important has a microcomputerchip on board. A analog computer has a lot of analog input signals and "computes" this to a final signal for the different inputs like the cold engine start injector as an example.
  16. Hahaha! Good one, I speak 3 languages so i'm trilingual? I always say: speak english and you can talk to the whole world.. (almost hey..) About tanks, a friend of my has a brand new 280z tank for sale, anyone interested? really as new was a wrong buy and he want to sell it for only 400 euro! I let him contact you!! (Or go to www.marktplaats.nl and type: datsun 280z tank he is called evert and has one! say Mart sended you!)

  18. Hi, I wondered myself many times what is that wide red stripe (as big as the 2 of your stripes together) and it's still a mistery, i would LOVE TO FIND OUT! I have never seen your combination of red and (what once was) white.. I asked it here on the forum and there was never a answer. Nobody knows.. Maybe it has to do with the composition of the metal of the camshaft. I think D1 (on the rear end) stands for a standard camshaft in 1972 datsun 240z's ?
  19. Yes, they are Hitachi's, a lot of people mistake them as they look alike. I've got a nice story about those! Our King had his own garage with at the head a master technician.. That technician Jan de J. came one day at 93! to me to buy a ReVox Tapemachine and saw the 240z standing on the driveway.. As he said that's a nice car i asked if he wanted to see the engine, offcourse he reacted and i showed him what's under the hood.. He pointed at the carbs and he said AH.. 2 BIG SU's that's nice and i had to correct him.. No i said these are improved SU's! They are Hitachi HJG46W! Also called roundheads.. you better avoid the flatheads hitachi (HMB46W) carbs as they are very difficult to tune.. There are some differences between the SU's en these Hitachi's.. what they are, i don't know as i never had some SU's in my hands! ;-) I'm sure these differences are in the details..
  20. Are they SU? They are Hitachi's! so.. name them as such..Thank you.. Hitachi made these under license of SU.. but they are different then su carbs so they are not su they are japanese hitachi carbs. I'm sorry is i sound angry but i'm tired of correcting.. all the time..🙊
  21. I'm the only madman in the Netherlands that drives a datsun 240z on wintertires in the Netherlands hahaha!! Get LOTS of thumps up 👍 with these cars especially in the winter! (I did/do this just because putting in a new floor in a 240z is much easyer than in a 300zxtt! 😁) My 240z is ready to take another restore now after 25 years of (Mis)use.. haha.. The dealer wants to buy that one also haha.. we'll it's for sale as i'm to ill to take up another restore. I'm left with the almost ready 280zx restore..pfff.. (May buy me another cabriolet or something in the future.. who knows..)
  22. Hi Mike, Yes i think that's why my car is one of the very few that's worth the money as it was for 5 years at the Nissan dealer. A CEO has had it the first 6 mnds and then the director of a big nissandealer in Breda the Netherlands. then it was sold with some new tires to a collector who cept it under a cover for 10 years The dealer drove it for 51000 km and the collector for 10000km so i bought it in 2007 (Time flies!!) with only 61000km on the clock! Now after 18 years it's around 89500km. I got all the paperwork also from the suspensions of the roadtax in ALL the winters after it came out of the nissan showroom !!! (Driving without roadtax in the Netherlands will get you a giant FINE (about 3 times a years cost of roadtax so about 3000-3500 euro!) so i never did that.) I think it's a gem that can become ALOT more worth ... Remember this car has never seen winter as on www.rdw.nl and with the licenseplate number you can see a damn long list of all the years it was suspended. It did drive EVERY summer for a 4-8 monds period. And i let it run every 4-6 weeks in wintertime to save the airco system.. The airco worked till the car was 31 years old! Kudos to Nissan for the excellent cars they made in the '90's! I got the stuff (and equipment) to fill the airco as it is not leaky but i haven't done it yet as now i only need to start the car every 2 monds or so.. This car still has it's original 1992 exhaust and always been under it. (I drilled 2 water outlets in the rear dampers that keeps them dry and helps A LOT! IF ANYONE WANTS THIS CAR.. NOW IS THE TIME AS NEXT WEEK THE DEALER IS COMING TO SEE IT.. (He's a busy guy and postponed it) The car does not have to go but anyone that wants to investigate can mail me at martzedcars@outlook.com (or send me a PM!) FUNNY: The car only ones left me aside of the road.. i looked up on google and it said: IF your nissan 300zx stops working it can be the powertransister for what NISSAN had a special new part that costs nothing.. I was ofcourse to late to get it free, but i found very easely a new type of powertransistor unit that's now in the car. A good friend of mine repaired the old one (i tested it and it's good!) and it's now under the seat as a backup! Haha.. Thanks!
  23. I've got (as some of you know) one in silver, next week the nissan dealer comes from the other side of our country (thats a small 250km haha) to look at it and buy it back haha.. we'll see! Mine is a 2+2 in silver from 1992 with leather and alcantera. only has a registrated(!) 89500km on it.. full history. (Totally original, NO power upgrade or other modifications! radio is put back in 10 min. as it has the original connectors on the new radio. (I took them from another radio so the wiring is orig!)) now for sale in the Netherlands.. (not even cleaned for this picture!) Prices are (also) high overhere.. this one? 40 grand.. yes that's euro's..
  24. I know KONI makes brand new shocks for the 280zx, I don't know if they also make them for the S30 series? But they do for the S130. Does anyone know? (I got a nos set they are numbers 1801 and 1802 i believe)
  25. Yes, and you do this after you torqued that particular bolt.. not all at once on a sunny afternoon when you feel like painting them all at once haha.. But.. if you make a stripe, you can ALSO see what moved! 😉
