Recenttly bought a license lamp assembly for my 1972 240z. Its working fine but doesnt seem to cover or fit perfectly together with the other parts. Im i missing something?

I see. I do think some pictures with better lighting might help us see why it isn't fitting properly.

Sure looks like an original cover at least, I’ say that due to the wavy distorted shape that is the common aging symptom.

Anxious to see better pictures of the whole thing.

Here are some pics of a OE license light. Compare yours and how it is assembled to see if there is anything different. The OE light has a rubber gasket between the two pieces, light should only be visible thru the two lenses that face down towards the license plate. Hope this helps.

Yeah we really can't tell what's going on. Can you remove it and take pictures as well as more pics of it installed with good lighting? It should be a simple removal.

From the picture it appears to me that it's missing the gasket so the lights show through where it attaches.

The original part number off that license plate lighting is 26510-E4100 or N3400 or N3700.

DOES ANYONE .. @jfa.series1 know the rare fairlady z license plate lighting partnumber? as i want to sell mine on Ebay!

Condition, as seen in pictures damn good! 50++ years old and since 1970's in my stockpile!

Brown stuff inside the unit is sort of grease not rust.
