Im trying to clean up some wiring in the car and I have a ground cable and some wires to a blower? im not sure what it is. Would someone be able to point me in the right directions. I dont see any obvious locations for them.

Not a very good pic of the blower but it reminds me of the 280ZX "Hair dryer" fan they used to blow on the fuel rail / injectors. Every turbo ZX had one. So do I, It's just in a drawer... Some people thought it was an answer for vapor lock.

If that's what it is, you'll never find anything about it in a 280Z FSM from any year. And a pic of the entire fan assy. would make identification incredibly easy.

I think your right about it being the hairdryer, it does have plastic piping that exhausts over the top of the valve cover. Would it be worth just removing it altogether?

If these are only found on 280zx turbo cars, could it be that I have a turbo head on this car? My reading material says the p90 was the turbo

I don't know for the USA but overhere the 280zx became standard around 1980-81 this blower to cool the injectors, On a hot summerday you could indeed get vaper-lock, this blower could prevent this. This was for the non turbo and Turbo engine. As in europe the Turbo came much later and they all had this hairdryer as you guys call it!

Personally i once had a vaper-lock on a 1983 280zx non turbo on a very hot day (36C) and it's not fun, i had to let it cool down and then it would start again. The hairdryer was working but i was low on fuel at that moment and the fuel became hot because of the rapid circulation. SO i learned DO NOT DRIVE WITH LOW FUEL WHEN THE WEATHER IS HOT!

He thinks 97 degrees is hot... Don't come to Phoenix. I was here when it hit 52C but usually in the summer we only get 43-46C

I avoid the 280ZX - I only use one of it's engines. However it IS my daily driver - here in Phoenix, Arizona - and I use my A/C all summer and have a FMIC and don't use the hair dryer. BTW, on a ZXT it only blows after shutdown and then only if the coolant temp is above a certain threshold (220 sticks in my mind but the actual figure is in the FSM). There is a temperature switch in the thermostat housing that controls that along with some other electronics. Like I said, I avoid the ZX's - I think they were an abomination. But I can see someone pirating a hair dryer and mounting it on another L-series if they thought it would help their vapor lock. I don't experience that, but we had Z's come to the shop that did - including a stock 1975 280Z.
