round shape knobs and square shape knobs
I am however intrigued as to what differentiates a 'california' model hls30 car from the other hls30 cars ( as shown in the file technicalbulletintailpanel.jpg) Andrew

original jute material
Dave I'd like to see the rubber flooring, I presume you are not bringing your 70 car to Japfest? I don't have a fiche to hand so I'm not sure which jute you mean. I think from what 26-thz has said it is the same as mine ( ie no jute). You have me intrigued however as to this extra piece of jute:classic: I have been going through my storage to get the rear deck jute and hopefully I will find it and get you the spec tonight. Andrew

original jute material
Dave If you mean the vertical diamond vinyl behind the tool boxes, then no, there is no vertical jute at that point. The vinyl is just stuck to the vertical surface using contact adhesive or similar. regards Andrew

Decal preservation
I need to do my brake booster soon and I was intending to try and steam the decal off using steam from a domestic kettle. This has worked for me on a few other non-car items, without damaging the decals. Hope it helps Andrew

1970 Engine?
lonetreesteve Welcome to the club:classic: Hope we'll see more of you here as you progress with the restorations. From my (incomplete) knowledge I would say that an engine from a car made up to the end of 1970 should have a serial number up to about L24-024000. So L24 060039 is from a later car. I would guess around sept or Oct 1971 hope it helps

round shape knobs and square shape knobs
Kats/Anybody, do you have any information on when/what VIN the tail light trim changed. My April 1970 car does have the lids for replacing the bulbs, but I suspect it has been changed for a later one. thanks Andrew

round shape knobs and square shape knobs
I think Kats mentioned only his Jan 1970 manual has the editing. Maybe that means the March 1970 manual he has is the newer version, without editing. Strangely enough, Looking through the manual for my 1972 UK series 3 car, there is still one picture showing the hand throttle, when the car itself and all other pictures have the later style series 3 console which has no provision for a hand throttle.!!! 240Z Series 1 Tool Box Questions
thanks for that Chris It got mixed up with the docs from my 1972 car and so I didn't know whether it was series 1 or not. regards Andrew

round shape knobs and square shape knobs
My manual is the same as Mark's dated 15 Jan 1970. Mine is missing the extra piece of paper on page 44, but you can see the glue :classic: I wonder how many manuals Nissan had to edit with the strategically placed pieces of paper. I guess we'll probably never know. Andrew

240Z Series 1 Tool Box Questions
Dave Yes I think it does sit loose behind the seats. Whilst sorting out some of the manuals I have for my z I came across a pretty scrappy piece of paper that lists the contents of the tool box in a 240z. It doesn't shed any light on the actual contents of the tool bag, and so doesn't actually tell you whether there should be any spanners in the tool bag. I'll be honest, I don't know for sure whether this comes from a series 1 car or not. Anyone alse seen one of these? regards Andrew

round shape knobs and square shape knobs
Guys Here's a quick and dirty example photo from my manual. There are many others. You can see that number 27 ( which refers to the hand throttle )has a strip of paper stuck over the top. Although the hand throttle is still shown in the picture. :stupid: regards Andrew

round shape knobs and square shape knobs
26thz My Jan 1970 handbook seems to be the same as what Kats was referring to. It has paper stuck over the sections related to the throttle control, but you can see what is underneath. Must have been an interesting job for someone, to go through the manuals that had been produced and stick those bits of paper in :stupid: Looking at the picture closely, in some of the pictures of the choke and throttle control they look more closely matched to the squarer knobs and in some they look more like the round knobs. Whilst we are as MikeW says dealing with hand drawn pictures, I would say that the round and square knobs seem to both be in existence by Jan 1970 at the latest. Andrew

Last Oldsmobile rolls off the line today
Simple marketing probably. All products/brands have a life cycle, but that life may be short or long. Oldsmobile sounds like it has had a long product life cycle and been a great 'cash cow' that has been milked for a number of years, with minimal investment and has turned a good profit for GM in the last few years. Once it stops making money. It gets dropped like a hot rock. Just my thoughts Andrew

How many manufactures can you list up?
Kats/Gav240z there is a conversion guide from old yuasa batteries to new exide batteries on the following link. Some of the yuasa batteries numbers have N50 in them. No detailed pictures though http://www.exide.co.nz/pdf/section2.pdf

brake booster
The Haynes manual has a section on how to take apart and rebuild a sevo. But I heard only the early (1970-1972) booster can be rebuilt 'at home'. FWIW Andrew

Philosophical discusion on build dates
No HS vin car imported by Nissan in the early 1970's to the UK had the date plate in the door jamb. As far as I know they had no dating on them at all. So engine/Vin number is the only way to date UK HS series cars. Andrew

MSA rear swaybar for a 10/71 240z...Question
I attempted to get some information into this topic recently. It appears that suspension techniques sway bar kit part no 52095 includes one of the 'non-drilling' 3/4in rear sway bars. There is also a nismo 'non drilling' 7/8in rear sway bar available. But it is $200 on its own. If I can find the part number I will post it here. regards Andrew

Philosophical discusion on build dates
Does anyone know where HS30 00026 or PS-00026 is? I know of 2 early series 1 cars in the UK which are HS 00034 & 35. In all the discussions I have heard/seen about the HLS30 vin numbers I have never heard of HLS30-00034 and 35 being referred to. (HLS30 00034 &35 are not listed on the IZCC register either) If someone knows where these ( or perhaps some other examples of same vin number/different model) perhaps the question of whether there are separate number series for each HS model could be put to bed for good. Interestingly HS30 00035 has an engine number into 5 figures ( about 10-11000) which puts its COMPLETION date somewhere around mid 1970, if the engine number is a good guide to completion. Kats: great detail on Mr Watanbe's car. I'm going to check if there is anything similar on mine. What date is on the seat belts on your car? FWIW Andrew
