My Datsun 240Z
I started a 73 Mach I with my son several years ago. He lost interest so it is sitting right now. They rust every bit as bad as Z's or worse. Around the windshield, cowl, doors, floors, quarters, torque boxes etc. I would love to get rid of it but it needs a lot of metal work. That makes it difficult for most people to tackle. I have the same problem of not enough potential value versus costs to restore... C

Triple Weber Mixture Screw Disaster
Occasionally I see used ones on Ebay for reasonable money. You would want some pictures of the throats so you don't buy the same problem. On a different note I thought the flat spot was caused by a different issue, but I can't recall it right now... Charles

1976 L28 Rebuild With P90 Solid Lifter Head
I have driven old Z's and the newer 350z's. They really have very different driving experiences. I like the older feel of the early Z cars but I am sort of "Vintage" too. I would image a 280Z making reasonable numbers is gonna feel slow and unrefined against a 300+ hp tweaked 370z... my 2 cents Charles

If It's True That We Are Judged By The Company We Keep.....
Ah Pantera, also one of my favorites. I had a friend a while back who had one. Beautiful car and I fit in that one. Although those prices have gotten high recently too. Charles

If It's True That We Are Judged By The Company We Keep.....
I'm with you Captain. In high school I found one for $10,000. My grandmother offered to loan me the money but I declined. I often wonder how that would have worked out. The only other problem is I don't fit in old Ferrari's as I'm 6'5". My head sticks out above the roof... C

I have one on a car that is too rusty to mess with, but the valance I believe is fairly new. It appears to still have the parts number sticker on the back side... Charles

Would You Pay $400 For Tail Lamps?
ABSOLUTELY! I have bought used JDM taillights out of Australia for that. For yellow turn signals I would absolutely give that! The last set of NOS JDM taillights I think were $1800. So I think $400 is a deal! If it's not your cup of tea, so be it. Many Z owners though love the look of the JDM taillights and as for safer, Americans are use to yellow turn signals so this is probably a step in the right direction too. Charles

[2015] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
My biggest tip on welding is use a good welder. I had a cheap 100 amp welder and my buddy said it looked like a drunk monkey had made the welds. Bought a good 210 amp 220v welder and it is much easier. An hour or two of practice and I can lay down a decent bead... Charles

[2015] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
240ziggy A tip for the floorboards. When I did mine I made a cardboard template of the basically flat area of the floor. I transferred that to the new floor plan. Cut slots in from the edge about 1 1/2" apart up to the scribed line. I then bent these with a hammer and dolly. That gives a nice rounded transition to the tunnel and follows the original floor lines. Welded it all up. Done basically the same way you did it but with more sections to make it easier to shape. Metal Fender Flares
I was doing some Googling on English wheels and came across this. I would love to fabricate some metal fender flares like this. I like the original shape of the quarters but I would like to see them exaggerated more to give more overall flare. I don't like the shape of many of the aftermarket fiberglass flares. They seem to conflict with the original lines. These videos show what I'm talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=491K3bqJ_9M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8K7RLT6BJY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od9QeWsor6E Enjoy. Really cool what you can turn a flat piece of 20 gauge into... Charles

Fresh Motor And Carbs
Many times the booster dies because brake fluid leaks from the rear of the master cylinder into the booster. The fluid destroys the rubber diaphragm in the booster so it no longer holds vacuum. The diaphragms are basically not available. Booster rebuild companies don't want to sell just a few and wholesalers I've found want a 1500 minimum order... Charles

Front Strut Assembly Question
Keep in mind if you get a used one, be sure you can get the old strut out. I have sold some in the past and have pulled the struts to make them lighter to ship. I had one I could not get the strut out even chained between 2 trees with a come-a-long pulling and heat. They can get very corroded in there. Charles
