  1. Me thinks you have mis-read what I wrote. Being based in the land of Aus, I deliberately prefaced that this refered to our 260's, which came equipped with those notorious carbies, up to '78. These late models had all different pollution control systems and the wires coming from the rear of the speedo was part of the anti-pop or anti-backfire system. As to what they do on 280's fitted with EFI, I have no idea. For all that I know they may not connect with anything! Sorry to have missed your earlier question on this. MOM
  2. I would think that no carbon indicates no combustion. It may be that the air/fuel charge in the cylinder doesn't burn [explode] at the outer extremity of the combustion chamber. Hence no carbon. Have absolutely no idea if this is a answer but may be feasible?
  3. In the ozzie 260's [read 280 with flat top carbs], this was part of the emmission control system. From memory part of the anti back fire system, as to whether you can chop it in a FI system I don't know, but you can in the ozzie 260. HIH
  4. If its any help my 73 doesn't have one. [And it's original again]! I doubt it's original, Bosch sort of conjures up many odd PO fixes or add-ons. My bet is a relay added to the starting circuit. HIH MOM
  5. Gav, If you're planning a drive later towards the penninsula I may be able to meet up with you guys. Just give me an ETA for Springvale/Wells/Freeway and I'll see what I can do. MOM
  6. Yep! Unfortunately not able to make your meet on that date. MOM
  7. I should have added that the fuses in the box are part of the charging circuit. The ampmeter works by sensing the drop in currnt between the shunt [which is the M that you mention].
  8. Gav, THere are a lot of S-30 owners out there in Victoria that are hankering for a S-30 register. Many S-30 owners have other interests apart from Sprints, hence target there interest towards clubs that support the style of event that they seek. Goodluck, and feel free to add my cars to your register. Mike of the Mire [MOM, for short]!
  9. That is the shunt that is used for the ampmeter. Leave it be least the gods of darkness will prevale!
  10. Nothing wrong with a auto. I've got both and enjoy driving each one!

Doubt it would be the shaft, I believe [but haven't done it] that the bearing can be pressed out and replaced. Presto.... no movement and dizzy like new!

Is the conversion to electronic? Where and how much will this cost?
  13. There are 2 types of 5 speed boxes [in Aus that I know of]:- The early 5 speed boxes where a flange fit. ie bolt on to the trans shaft. The later boxes and more common [in Aus] is a sleeve fit. I had no idea that the speedo gear carrier was different as I've never had the different types side by side?

Amen to that! Once you change the shell you obviously have a new car! Have a green beer on me. MOM
  15. I can't tell you what it does [at least on a 240 conversion], but you don't use it. Someone once remarked that it was used on EFI but as I have all carbie cars I can't verify it. It puts out 8volts from memory? Anyone else cast some light on it's use?
  16. Ash, I think you may be pushing it uphill on this. For similar reasons that preclude the use of triple carbs. in Historic Racing. Homlogation is provided by the factory, whereas Scarab was private concern. If they did have the body homlogated then it would be available thru the FIA, ask CAMS first for any further info. MOM

Ah, finally get to see Alan T in person, he isn't half biscuit after all! Now all we need is a pic of Alphapuppy to complete the collection!

Thanks Puppy, Any idea if the mag is available in OZ? Before firing a rocket over in that direction I thought I would get my facts correct. MOM

Now I try to access their website and my computer keeps locking up! Can anyone supply a e-mail address to the editor? The more mail they get telling them that they have been conned the better chance we have that we don't have an Italian Job pulled on us.

Maybe a e-mail from KATS explaining that the real #5 was just recently seen by him in person, in Japan might be enough for a clarification. Bugger, just when you think Goertz has been debunked the last thing you want to read is this crap. Sorry fro the strong words, but it really p......... me off. Just as thought, if all list members e-mailed the magazine it might just be enough to have the article clarified.....just a thought. MOM
  22. Can't answer the 3.0 question, but my motor was bored out at a very early age by a PO. No one suspected it was a greater capacity until I did the headgasket and the overbore was revealed. All experts consider this to be the equivelant to a 2.8L capacity, certainly performs better with L24 serials!
  23. Or, if you really want to: Increase the bore on you L24. May not get you to 3.1L. 2.8 is achievable with little difficulty and you still maintain originality! MOM
  24. I think that would be a good idea!
  25. like to see the starter motor?
