  1. I've seen most of the new cars today, from Lincoln LS to Ford Focus to the 250Z. Drove just about all. I don't count any of them as a sports car, because they are all designed to be PASSENGER CARS. That is why I don't care for the 350Z. It's built to make you feel comfortable with stereo, climate controls and cup holders. Besides the fact that I don't think Nissan knows how to make a sports car any more, I just don't like the looks of the 250Z, period. All they tried to do was to out-do Honda & toyota with a super-rice car and I'm surprised it doesn't have a big wing, lots of stupid lights and a 42-inch video screen (on convertibles) so the people behind you can see themselves! the thing looks like a big blob and I've seen better cars drawn by little kids. They probably got the idea from the Boss' kid. If you want to see real sports cars, go to Sebring, or LeMans, or places like that. Not Corvette either; It's not a sports car. IMO of course.
  2. Exactly. That's what you get from a mass-produced car built from drawings a 7 year-old kid draws! There are NO lines, NO individuality. NO "gritting-your-teeth" feeling like you get from the East African Safari. You'd have to spend abouut $80,000 MORE to get a car that gives you the feeling that YOU are really the one in control. What you would get for that money is a scratch-built sports car or a vintage racer. Sound familiar??
  3. I think he meant to say "down hill again."
  4. I agree that the 350Z is a waste at best. If they really wanted to make it a sports car they should: 1. Tear out most of the sound system. Sports cars don't need more than 2 spreakers. 2. slim down the engine-- no a/c, cruise, power steering. Just the basic heater with defog. Fancy aluminum covers aren't needed, but the aluminum does save weight. 3. No convertable. Make it simple car to maintain ( and much safer) with a permanent, hard roof. If it carries a Zed name (from years ago) it should have more in common with the body design (except the bumpers!) You get the jist of my opinion. Just a simple sports car with strong engine, nothing to distract your attention, good handling and not too hard to keep looking good. If they had done all that, with the improved wiring & metals they have now, it would have been just as much a favorite as the 1st gen Zeds are now. Even 25 years from NOW. Those same things explain why the older muscle cars are so valuable today. But I guess they would rather listen to the marketing people about how to build a "sports car."
  5. My brakes are mushy on the first pump, then firm on the second. Is that what yoour was like? Otherwise, I probably have a leaky M.C. thx
  6. I think I would suggest a lawyer. You will pay for it, but you should get the right answer the first time. Of course, you could call your DMV and ask them what you can do with your car...
  7. Right--- chrome strip, rubber, runs along the door at the boottom of the window.
  8. Is it possible to re place the rubber squee-gees on the side windows (280Z)? Mine are so hard they feel like metal. I'm afraid they will scratch the windows and they don't touch the glass, so water might be going down there. :disappoin Any recommendation for a supplier? thx
  9. Does anyone know if the '78 280Z has the wiring for the speakers in the wiring harness? I think the PO of my car has one speaker output hooked into the radio connector, but I couldn't really find it in the wiring diagram, or the other speaker wire(s). thx
  10. I haven't seen a Zed in Cleveland, OH since the 80's. Not until I went to visit a Z club last summer.

Excellent. that's what I call some good trivia. It even has to doiwith Z cars. Why did they use the "Z"?
  13. TomoHawk replied to Fun_in_my_z's topic in Open Chit Chat
in the beginning the company was simply cally "DAT." Then to Datsun, then Nissan Why "DAT?"
  14. I really didn't think one would need a rev limiter on a 280Z. Since it's the thing I know most about right now, I thought I'd look into it as a way to learning more abnout how the engine & electrical stuff works. So if you would humor me, I would like to discuss how this job would be accomplished without totally rewiring everything- like just adding on a thingy if there is one. With the engine having 100k+ miles on it or 25 yrs old, I think I would want to lower the red line substantially- like to 5k? Mine sounds smooth, but you never know if it wants to throw itself through the hood! thx
  15. Don't they have faux braided coverings for the hoses like the faux stainless braid?

Funny!... Actually, they were looking for a place to get some brew. It was a long way to go for a Beer run!

What was the REAL REASON the 'pilgrims landed on this side of the Atlantic? (you'll like thios one)
  18. What kind of intake? there are many different kinds.

George Washington (who was NOT the first President of the United States) was actually a Britsh person/citizen.
  20. I thought a rev-limiter might connect to the ign. coil, llike a tacho wire, and sens the RPM. Then it would cut off power or something to limit the revs. thx
  21. He replaced the whole ignition system with an MSD one, which has the rev-limiter. I thought there might be one you add onto the stock system.
  22. That 240z restoration "checklist" seems fairly comprehensive. On the other hand, it is just a checklist, specifying OK/repair/replace for most things which is subjective, and it even refers to restoring a couple things according to the book, "Restoring Your Datsun Z Car" by Wick humble! It's still a checklist and leaves a lot open, so between that and the one from hammondsplains.com, I think you can do a fair job of "restoration." I only plan on using it as a checklist of things to do to make the cart better & safer to drive.
  23. Is there supposed to be a rev-limiter on the F.I. L28 engine? If not, can you put one on there? Which one? thx
  24. Yeah- You can probably add Bambikiller, hls30, 280zxEd, kats, guus...
  25. Hello! Sorry, but that weight is wrong. Try 2800-3000 lbs with your setup. Also, did you know that B&M once had an auto shifter with an 'H" shape gate? Just like the 4-speeds. Go call them to start making more. I need one too. Shift kit? Is that a manual shift body, or just shift improver? How do you like shifting constantly? thx
