Have you figured out how to connect the tacho, or the ignition coil and distributor?
  2. I didn't know a 240Z had a frame... How would you do a frame-off restoration on a unibody car? IMO, the best you could do is take the engine out, remove all the undercarriage stuff, gas tank, interior, etc., put it on a rotisserie, and then go at it from there. BTW- don't forget to get & print a copy of the "240Z restoration manual."
  3. I think the stripes look nice, but the question then would be how high (or low) on the side to put them? Is there a usual place? IMO along the bottom edge of the door. thxZ
  4. You won't be able to use the fuel pump from the fuel injection system. You'll need one that delivers low-pressure or the mechanical one that the earlier models used.
  5. Check the condition of the rubber hoses that connect to the fuel pump too. those are likely to fail. Check all the rubber hoses on the high-pressure lines.
  6. Like Create the same thing using a computer graphic program. Bigger is better. thxZ
  7. That's cool... Would you mind sharing a big graphic of that with us? I could make a bumper stcker/magnet of it. :rambo:
  8. What does it say on the glove box door?
  9. Well, I don't think there is anyone better to put on the job...I think I just made a compliment...
  10. Chrome fingernail polish!!??? Well, if it looks OK.... Can you spray that with an airbrush?
  11. If you are referring to the chromed surrounds on the 280Z tail light units, those are part of the unit, and I don't know if they can be separated from the colored lenses. I suppose you could cut out the colored lenses to leave just the chromed parts, but IMO, it's too much of a bother. You may just add chrome striping or something. The design of the 280Z taillights is so that they are attached to and stand out that much from the panel. If you could provide a good photo or two, like a close-up of the taillight area, maybe someone can suggest how to get to your goal. Is there a website maybe? thxZ
  12. That last post was six months ago.... How goes it Will? Will it all fit on ONE DVD? just wondering... I'd probably put in my order now if it helps, or would you prefer a six-pack? thxZ
  13. You're using a AA battery to run your clock? There must be a better way; the oem wiring should have a constant power feed from the battery to the clock, the hazard switch, cigarette lighter (on a 78) and probably several other places. On my '78, I was able to use the oem radio plug for amp power, ground, and lights. You have speaker connections there too, but I connected directly to the radio with new wires for those.
  14. I remember those little black knobs that you could get at auto parts stores, over by the CB radios... I have 3 or 4 electronics books with a couple of those circuits in each one.
  15. I'm confused about all the 'delay' stuff. By delay, you mean the adjustable intermittent timing, like newer cars have? I"m satisfied with the oem intermittent setting, so if that works plus slow & fast, I'll be happy. I'm going to take my linkage out again over the winter, and not only clean things, but I'll try to polish the axles and put in a sealed bearing for the middle. I found out that the metal shims were rusted and bent, so the wipers were jittery, but I put it together for ZCON anyway. thxZ
  16. I was in the DD class. I don't really compete tho.
  17. And the answer is: 1st generation Stock: 3rd Place: Larry Loftin 2nd Place: Charlie Osborne 1st Place: Laverne Burkhart That's all I can tell you ZHead240. Classes were not broken down into individual models, so 240Zs were in with the 260Zs and 280Zs thxZ
  18. Here are the slides of the 2008 ZCON awards: http://www.clevelandrockz.com/docs/ClevelandRockZ_Awards_Banquet.pdf thxZ
  19. You're supposed to get your copy, eventually (remember that ZCCA people are volunteers.) Usually it takes about 6 months :disappoin I spoke with a judge or two (I "don't remmber who") and they told me that they would try to write comments on things, but there were so many cars to judge that there may not have had enough time to write much. I'm wondering what I got points off for that wasn't even supposed to be judged! It usually happens at local Z shows.
  20. There is a copy of the awards presentarion slides available somewhere online so you can read the names. If I can find the link, I'll post it so you can download a copy. There is probably a picture of the car on the convention photos DVD. As for detailed information on each car... nobody bothered to write anything on the entry sheet!
  21. Basic definitions: BTDC (Before Top Dead Center) TDC (Top Dead Center) They are related, but not the same thing.
  22. I'll take that to mean the real Bull Run has bad cars & hot chicks, real parties, etc. The series has no bad cars or hot chicks. They pretty much just pretend they do. They don't even drive fast ( or fast enough to get a ticket.) I wouldn't be suprised (much) if some of the things (breakdowns, getting lost, etc.) were scripted by the producers, and if you didn't do it, you're booted out. I wonder if any member here is connected with SPEED TV and knows the real skinny about the TV series, but can't say so. thxZ
  23. She reminds my of my old auntie. I hope the checkin/checkout girls got their act together at least. In the last series, they would just stand there as the cars would leave or drive up. They needed to be more excited about those teams after driving (and rguing!) all day. Like a bunch of "blonde" cheerleaders. I'm also wondering if their obstacles are redesigned so that you won't hurt the cars. The last time, there was one obstacle (a wall of cinder blocks) that you could hit if your stop was too long. The F-150 truck did a number on its front grille when it hit.
  24. The reason I asked why you used BTDC is because TibZ wants to locate TDC for #1 on his engine. If you refer to TDC, then you need to say that or its equivalent, 0 degrees BTDC. Of course, the spark happens just before TDC, as in 5deg. BTDC, but it's a different thing then the actual TDC.
  25. Carl, What's BTDC? Or was that a typo?
