Horns
I never had mine apart. I only stripped the outside & repainted. Isn't there supposed to be a tuning nut in the center? thxZ

Audio Systems
Nope. No room for a base tube anywhere in the back. There is only a couple of niches for the two speaker boxes I built (to fit into those niches.) Anything you put into the back of the car has to sit on top of the spare tyre or on the deck behind the seats, which is why I use a luggage net instead of straps. IMO, making a car sound like a recording hall is not a good thing and can even be dangerous, so I don't put a lot of effort or expense in audio equipment. Having the four speakers is enough, and the speaker boxes I built give good bas sounds.

Audio Systems
That was my concern. The alternative would be to use the (black) plastic cover, whichgwould makeit obvious that it's no longer a stock-resembling setup- even if it was painted to match the panel behind it? thxZ

Audio Systems
There's no room for any bass tube in my car, and the speaker boxes do a good job on low frequencies, and I have absolutely no wish to complicate the wiring in my car after spending several years correcting things, so I will just try some better 4-inch speekers in the factory locations. I will leave the subwoofers to the younger crowd. The only thing behind the seats is luggage and a gallon of water. thxZ

Audio Systems
The 4 inch speakers stay in the car, so if I need to leave the rear boxes in the garage, like for a car show. I can still have some music, but not too loud. I usually connect the rear boxes for most driving. The only issue I would see with 4 inch speakers would be that the multi-way speakers might stick out too far for the cover panels to go on, unless you were able to put the plastic grilles on over the top. thxZ

Audio Systems
Dave (Zs-ondabrain) -- With all the audio stuff you have, where do you put the people?? Can 4-inch speakers really handle enough sound by themselves? I had to put in some cheapie radio-junk 4 inchers in the factory spots for the previous radio, but they will "pop" with significant bass notes. Upgrade to some better 4-inchers? thxZ

EVENTS: North American Z Rally
It is probably a little late to get them to reorganize things. Hotel reservation changes, mechanical stops, and getting the dealers to change their calendars will be a big problem at this stage.

Zcon 09
The good thing about ZCON 2009 right now is the new registration system. Everything will be done via the website. The car show is on Tuesday again???? (j/k)

What ticks you off about Ebay
I don't like buying things from eBay that are supposed to be from the U.S.A., but you find out come from Hong Kong or Taiwan ( from the shipping label.) I prefer to support local or domestic markets, even if it did cost a bit more, and would rather not send my money to some bloke overseas, whose selling 5,000 items a month! That's how our economy in the U.S. got so bad! thxZ

Hazard light switch location on 77-78 280
The turn signal lever is on the left of the steering column, the windsheild wiper /lights control mates to it on the right side, and the hazard switch goes under the radio.

Removing the Valve cover for Polishing
100 grit isn't all that coarse. I use 60-grit as a start on wood projects, then 220 and paint. On the Aluminum 100-grit should be fine, but will take a little effort on the next one or two grades up. Even a file can be used to take out scratches or dings.

Removing the Valve cover for Polishing
Instead of a clearcoat, tere are proper metal waxes (refer to Metalwax.com) to sustain & protect the finish. The only problem is that you can't get it at just any autoparts store, and if you ask a salesperson, they will show you car wax.

The leaves are not the only thing changing colors
Actually, the leaves have had their "fall colours" since they were born. They simply fill up with chlorophyll in the warmer months and turn green.

2008 Int'l Convention Sep 28 - Oct 3
In movies, people used to talk about "Cleveland" as some kind of lesser place. We have downtown with its inner-city area, Little China, Little Italy, etc., and even the areas you'd want to avoid at night if you want to get home 'alive.' All that is just like any other city in the U.S.A. and things are getting better downtown with all the improvements, closings of drug-houses, and recently the Rock Hall and Science museum. I think that having a successful convention is a nice feather in Cleveland, Ohio's cap... BTW- Did you know that 43 states have a city called "Cleveland?" thxZ

2008 Int'l Convention Sep 28 - Oct 3
Usually the winner is allowed to say his name and a short spiel, but with so many classes and winners for everything, it was decided to forego that for brevity. I'll agree that it would be a good idea to get close-up pictures possibly during the show, and even interviewhe owners for the particulars.

2008 Int'l Convention Sep 28 - Oct 3
The reason there was no info on the cars in that document was because of the lack of information on the entry form. I don't think that anyone put more than, say, 'Tokiko springs,' or 'new carpet' on the car show entry form. The awards would've lasted hours more to have those slides up long enough to read. Also, since the the only picture of the car was taken besides the one by the main gate, they were not available until after the convention.

Automatic antenna in an S30
I wondeered about that too, but I haven't seen one or any kind of replacement bezel/nut either. The newer ones look like they're designed to go on a flat, horizontal surface, which is quite different from the stock location on an S30.

R.I.P Pininfarina
Andrea Pininfarina passed away on August 7, 2008, in case you didn't know. He was famous for being the CEO of the Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, founded by his grandfather Battista "Pinin" Farina in 1930. txZ

Automatic antenna in an S30
I'm in no rush to finish the car. I do things as they come around or as I am inspired. I'd rather rebuild the factor unit, but I can put this new one in temporarily. I know you can hook it up to function like it was designed to (go up with the radio on) but I like to keep most things period looking or functioning, so I wanted the antenna to go up only when I wanted it to. The only thing I can't fix is the exposed tip, which has a flush look to it. I usually keep it down any way.

Automatic antenna in an S30
As an alternative to the pricey oem-style power antenna, I figured out a switch wiring setup to operate a newer automatic antenna (it goes when the radio is turned on, and down then the radio is turned off) to work using the wiring available in a 280Z. Below is the switch diagram I figure to use, which requires a DPDT, center-off momentary toggle switch and two of the three wires. The red wire is the main power wire to the antenna, and the blue wire goes to the radio's power antenna connection. Ground on the antenna goes to the chassis of course. I will figure out a relay setup using two wires and the factory antenna switch ( SPDT center-off momentary.) thxZ

When should fuel pump begin operating?
This might be another of those peculiarities I've found on my car since I got it. Some look like factory things and some are from a PO. thxZ

When should fuel pump begin operating?
Sorry, you must have inaccurate or incomplete information. My engine, the wiring, and all the relevant literature I have all confirm a set of contacts in the air flow meter. Otherwise, I would not have said so.
