  1. Still waiting for Datsun parts. So, I started fixing the rust on the Volvo pickup right rocker panel. Driver's side has no issues. Pretty bad. It was bad when I got the wagon 3 years ago started poking from the inside cut most of the outer skin off have to fix the inner structure before I can replace the rocker skin. This mid section below the captive nut is the reinforcement for the B pillar, all this has to be replaced Scraped all this sealant/undercoat back from the floor to rocker lip, to make sure nothing will catch fire when I start welding in new sections
  2. Technically yes. Car on the ground. Roll it back and forth a few times to let the suspension settle. Throw 150#s of olympic weights in the drivers seat and torque it down. The center section of the bushing is metal and bonded really well with rubber to the metal outer shell! When it gets torqued down it can't rotate freely anymore. The only rotation is the rubber flexing. So if you trap it in a position where the car sits higher, then the range of motion from the rubber bushing is higher overall (ie the car will sit higher)
  3. The fit is snug but it will go in. Be mindful there is a front and back side to the bushing. Also the bushings need to be torqued with load on the car! If you do it with the car unloaded the car will sit higher.
  4. Thank you both looks like it's back to the junk pile for a third if I can't get this one to unstuck. Now that I think of it when I received it it still had hoses attached and when I took the old hoses off there was a piece of electrical tape covering the secondary Airport where air would enter under vacuum I thought maybe somebody did that just for shipping but it seems now that they realized it was stuck open and had taped shut the secondary port to prevent full-time air coming into or through the valve which probably was creating a full-time lean air condition hard to deal with.
  5. This is the most likely cause. It would be unaffected by the shoe change. Very common. Somebody on the forum just had a similar problem. The drum is a close fit around the perimeter of the backing plate, see red arrow. Any slight bend will cause rubbing, and the plate material is not that strong. The plate itself acts like an amplifier of the sound. Some finesse with a hammer will fix it. Usually you can see a shiny spot where the drum rubs.
  6. The fsm says pulling the e-brake up a few times is the adjustment after changing shoes. Mine went from almost straight up to about half way. Kinda like ED as I got older.

  10. Evreything I find on the internet (ignoring the BS E-bay ads quoting antenna switches to suit datsun 240z to 280zx) seems to point to that type. The wiring diagram is based on the two diagrams in the Xenon website 1971 240z FSM supplement In the detail Pos 14 & 15 seem to match.
  11. The radio I have is from a later year. It has the later (horizontal) antenna switch design. I assume a PO changed it out at sometime in the past.
  12. Im running the rota rb 16x7 +4. First I installed 225 50 16 (clears the original struts without any issue.) But stones hit the lower body all the time. After a complete restauration i didn't like that. Then i went 215 55 16 and no problem at all.
  13. I might Maybe one of the attachments from a brake bleeder kit I have might fit and I think I can hand pump some vacuum there I'll try in a little bit and report back good idea.
  14. Snake oil for valve trains. I've tried a few in the past and been disappointed with the results but a mild cam seal leak and a severe rack and pinion leak on our 97 Outback (spare car) made me dig deeper. After watching many snake oil reviews I decided to try AT 205. This stuff is amazing. Project Farm confirmed this on YouTube. I added the recommended amount to the power steering and engine oil. Although the car gets driven less than a thousand miles a year, it's been almost 2 years and I have not had to top up either reservoir. I haven't tried it on old rubber grommets and bushings but it may revive those too. The only negative reviews I found were from some Toyota owners stating that it removed the paint in the oil pans causing a blockage in the oil pick-up screen
