77 280z Restoration
5 pointsThanks to S30driver I’ve got operational headlights and brake lights. He recommend these LED headlights from Vintage Car LEDs. They’re beautiful and we’re plug and play. I had some gremlins in my fuse box that he helped me with also . All I have left to fix in the lighting department is the turn and hazards. I think I know the problem there. I got 120 miles on the car now. Running smooth still.5 points

[2022] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
I'm not sure who drove the rubber bumper wonder. It might not have been a club member. One of our members sometimes shows up in an old Beetle, but that car was inherited. As for the multi-colored S130, that car is for mosquito control. Once he fires it up, the smoke kills those little buggers for at least 3 counties.3 points

Are we gonna let the box hang out the hatch or fold you in half in a shorter box? 🤣🤣3 points

280Z Steering Wheel
2 pointsi wanted a really fat wheel for my aging arthritic fingers. I cut down to the metal core, then encased in successively larger layers of heater hose, and finally wrapped in a custom Wheelskin.2 points

280Z Steering Wheel
2 pointsI really like my 240's wheel over the 280's. It gives a twitchy feedback which I like. It's like driving on a rail. Those new wheels that are straight on the bottom are interesting. I suppose you'd get more leg room but I steer with my legs a lot. Beer, phone and shifting is a lot to do.2 points

For the first time in the 51 years I've been pumping gas into the tank of my 240Z, today it got to try some $6.09 a gallon gasoline. It's got to be better than the 25¢ a gallon gas I used to give it in 1971.2 points

Headlight Switch gone wacko
2 pointsSuggestions Remove the relay kit and see if normal function is restored. Remove the headlight switch and check resistance across the terminals for the parking lights with the switch in off. Be more specific about the tail light relay kit. Do you mean the parking light relay kit that Motorsport Auto sells? https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic10l/12-4652 If it is the parking light relay kit, something isn't landed right. Drive 3 hours to my place for me to fix it. Standard rates apply.2 points

Barefootdan's 280z Build
2 pointsHaha!! Probably not, but of all the stupid stuff I do, I'm less worried about those dollies than the rest of the stupid stuff. And the rating on the small moving dollies is 1000 pounds each. Now I don't trust the absolute validity of that rating, but it's about twice what you would be putting on it with a corner of the Z. So there is a significant overrating.2 points

I took the car out to the Georgia Z Club meeting tonight. With the warm, dry weather, there was a good showing.2 points

Here's the page from the calendar: Something about the angle of the photo makes it looks extra "hatchback-y" and cool. Well put!2 points

It's Mitty weekend at Road Atlanta. I spent a few minutes with Greg Ira and Scott Hyatt in the paddock after their first qualifying session. Greg was top dog in that session. He may have shown his hand too soon.2 points

Our club hosted a fun all Nissan car show Saturday at Superior Nissan, our sponsor. A nice day, (a good barometer for that is when you see Zup in shorts) with complimentary burgers & dogs. Lots of people stopped by to chat and give the cars some love.2 points

[2022] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
I have been driving the 240Z so much lately that I wanted to take the 260Z out. You can't have them feeling neglected, right? There was a car meet half an hour away. I had the only Z, but it wasn't the only Nissan. There were a couple of JDM Skylines, a Roadster, and a GTR. (Does a G35 count? 😉 )2 points

1 pointCongratulations on this great looking ride. Very good inspiration for me! I used these same headlights on another 70’s vintage car and I was also very pleased with the result.1 point

Blue. It is dyed so it can readily identified by the tax cops looking for people who are trying to avoid road taxes. The racing gasoline I used to buy is dyed purple. Off road diesel (for tractors and heavy machinery) is dyed red for the same reason.1 point

1 pointI have a pair of the vehicle dollies as well, but no... They do not raise the car nearly as high as the moving dollies with a couple slabs of wood on top. And... I'm not sure which moving dollies you were looking at, but the small ones are currently $26 for a pair while a pair of those vehicle dollies you linked to are sixty bucks. So if you want them on all four corners, you can get four of the moving dollies for less than one pair of the vehicle versions. I also found that the moving dollies roll much easier than the vehicle dollies. Not sure why, but they just move a lot easier.1 point

1 pointIt was a lot of fun. Miss that car. A real German hot rod, sort of a proto E39 M5. http://www.spannerhead.com/2013/05/26/the-new-daily-1995-bmw-540i-6-speed/ http://www.spannerhead.com/2013/07/07/doctor-540i-or-how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-the-v8/ /threadjack1 point

77 280z Restoration
1 pointIs the air dam urethane or fiberglass? My old BMW 635's urethane air dam was warped at the bottom, and I had a couple of guys from the shop at work take a length of 1" aluminum angle, notch a V in it, bend it, and rivet it to the inside lip of the air dam to straighten it out. Before: After: I hear you about the Koni instructions. Those are TERRIBLE. I put a set of Koni Yellows in my old 6-speed 540, and I think I remember having to work around those awful instructions as well...1 point

Well Nils. All I can say is I don't comment much, but I do follow your thread. I hope this panelbeater pulls through without to many external issues. Its been 10 years. Bonus points for sticking it out.1 point

77 280z Restoration
1 pointSame issue here during my install. The strut rod would spin as soon as any meaningful amount of torque was applied to the top nut. I ended up using a make shift strap wrench to get it tightened down more, but definitely not to the Koni specs still. I believe you can buy a socket with a cutout that will let you slide in a wrench to hold the strut...but who has time for that! 😂1 point

Barefootdan's 280z Build
1 pointI jacked mine up and then set it back down on four small moving dollies (from HF). Lifts the car up high enough to be able to get under it and also allows the suspension to squirm around to neutral position which is important when tightening the suspension bolts. Put a plank or two of 2 x 10 across these: Don't let your car roll out into the street on the dollies.1 point

Standard alternator Bosch AL236X. Plenty of amps to run the Sound Ordnance woofer behind the passenger seat and the Kenwood amp under it. Speakers inside the front center console and inside the B-pillars. Look inside and you can't see anything but Z.1 point

Those are great. Mine look slightly different but have taps for my heavy audio requirements. I found these plain jane red and black covers on Amazon that fit the terminals well.1 point

My two swiss S30Z Fairlady Restoration build thread
Finally - the day has come, where the car left the home for the second time for a visit at a bodyshop. This time a different one... The agreed timeline is to complete the body until the end of the year (roughly). I said quality comes before a tough timeline, but also they agreed on not letting the car sit in a corner for 5 years like the previous panelbeater did... The plan is to straighten the chassis, which needs a bit alignment, replace all rusty panels and then add the bodypanels and align all gaps, before having everything dismantled again and ready for the paintshop.... And until then i'll plan my next steps. They already took some panels with them too, but i'll visit them soon, bring the passenger side door and seat rail for test fit and have a look around their shop. I'm as motivated as i haven't been in a long while to push this project as far as possible again...1 point

[2022] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Ran up the odometer a little today, the weather here is perfect, but not before doing something really stupid. I was in a rush to change the oil this morning and forgot it was in neutral. Went to jack the center flat on the crossmember. Got it pretty high and CU-THUNK. The cup on the jack came off and up between the pan and the torsion bar. Put a little dent in the front of the pan but didn't puncture it so all is well except I'm pissed at myself. "Could've been worse" is my go to now.1 point

[2022] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Georgia Z Club meeting tonight. There was a good showing of cars. Here are most of them. The two black/gold AEs were both purchased relatively recently. There was another couple of S30s that showed up later, and a couple later models parked on the other side of lot, so I couldn't squeeze them in. When I came out to take this photo, a gentleman named Tom came over from the gas station because he saw the Z cars. He owned a 71 in high school and college. I told him to look up our club on Facebook. Maybe he'll visit.1 point

[2022] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
I finally took the 240Z back out for an extended drive today. That's the first time for it in almost 12 years. We went to the Worship car meet. (Think of a more intimate version of Cars and Coffee.) @gwri8 decided to drive down and visit, too. Plenty of Z cars showed up. I missed getting a photo of one of the 280Zs, though. It was nice to drive the 240Z again. Who is that mysterious photobomber? 😉1 point

[2022] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
This weekend I started refurbishing the driver's seat of my 280Z. Did the passenger seat last week (leather covers and new foam from Interior Innovations). Aside from a small crack in the seat back sheet metal (which I tried to reinforce with fiberglass), the passenger seat was fairly straightforward - cleaning everything up from previous owner's work took more time than actually fitting the foam and covers. The driver's seat is a bit more challenging because one of the metal rods on seat bottom that the hog rings attach to was cut off. I've made a new one and a friend of a friend will weld it on this coming weekend.1 point
