  1. Thanks! This past weekend I started on the hatch floor area. In looking at the templates you created, I realized that those are for a series 1 car. So, they differ a bit from my series 2. Once again I had to do some investigative work, looking closely at clues on my car to decipher where the original sound deadening mat was. My car still had the mat present behind the shock tower, but the portion between and in front of the shock towers had been removed by a prior owner. After careful removal of some kind of black coating, likely applied by this same owner, I was able to see where the original mat use to be. The original silver paint outlines where it was. I started applying tape so I could make a template: The outline was taped off. Then masking paper was used to fill in the outline. Next, I removed the remainder of the factory sound deadening. Then, I used the template to cut the Second Skin mats. The adhesive backing is still in place on each mat. Fitment was done first with each mat held into position by using masking tape. Next, I will properly strip the hatch floor so it is prepped for a coat of epoxy primer.
  2. Ha! Her comment was more to the effect of: “what the heck is all this crap in the garage....it’s a walking hazard” I told her this is the cocoon phase like a butterfly, it’s get worse before it gets better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just speaking to #1, I could comment on more but won’t. lots of healthcare professionals, me included will not take the time to correct the ignorant. It’s a waste of our time and usually, no minds are changed. Brookfield defines learning as “a permanent change in behavior. That isn’t going to happen with someone who believes ivermectin is going to save them.

Hello, My name is Seyler from Colorado, and I am an S30 addict. I am glad to finally be here, as I now own my first S30, a Black Pearl. While I have fed my addiction on my own for some time, I know I will need help to manage my addiction. I only hope to be able to pass along the help I receive to those who will also need help with their addiction in the future.
  6. The gear reduction starters don’t specify automatic or manual transmission. Up to 1978 they specified trans type. I’m wondering if the automatic starter might have a shorter bendix throw to the flex plate which might explain it barely reaching the flywheel. Unlikely since you said it was working previously but Just a thought. Recently did the a/t to manual conversion and the difference is a spacer on the crankshaft to the flex plate. Hopefully others will chime in. I’m sure you’ve bench tested the starter under power correct?
  7. The biggest issue I see is the 0.008" head milling. An unsurfaced head will yield around 9.83:1 CR, but once milled, you will be over 10:1. Even on 93 octane, that's pushing it, but with our 91 octane, I'd be concerned. I have a similar build with an un-milled head and it did just fine in Michigan on 93. I moved to Sun City West a few months ago and other than driving around a bit this spring, my Z has been in the garage awaiting cooler weather, so I haven't even had to fill the tank with 91 yet. I'm hoping that I'll have time in the next month to get the car out and drive it more. At that point, I'll know how it likes 91 gas.
  8. It's just courtesy, to let people stay focused on the reason they started their thread. For example, I could post here in your thread about whether I should use Bosch relays from a wrecking yard or the cheapest from O'Reilly Auto or Rockauto. Seems like a valid concern and "on-topic". Then we could have 20 posts discussion about it. Personally, I like the wrecking yard Bosch relays. They're cheaper and probably of higher quality, even used. Designed to last the life of the car. $8 new can add up. Still, might be worth it, new Bosch. https://www.amazon.com/Bosch-Automotive-332019150-Relay/dp/B0010ADJIE
  9. I have measured the current into the starter solenoid in the past, and while I can't find my notes, I believe it was approaching 10 Amps. Seven or eight maybe? I do know that it's enough to eventually burn up the insides of the ignition switch: So if you're planning to use a push-button non-stock starter button, you could use something beefy and maybe get away without a relay. But if you're planning to use the stock ignition switch, I would suggest a relay to cut down on the current to the switch. I think it's mistake that Datsun didn't do that from the start and if you're already making changes to harnesses and stuff, it would be the perfect time.

For the people who say stuff like "Flu kills hundreds of thousands every year, covid will be just one of them", I took a quick look for some covid/flu comparisons for the US.* From >> https://www.cdc.gov/flu/season/faq-flu-season-2020-2021.htm Flu activity was unusually low throughout the 2020-2021 flu season both in the United States and globally, despite high levels of testing. The low level of flu activity during this past season contributed to dramatically fewer flu illnesses, hospitalizations, and deaths compared with previous flu seasons. And from >> https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/weeklyarchives2020-2021/week10.htm here it is in graphical format: When comparing the data, I get two quick takeaways. First... There were very few flu cases or deaths in the 20-21 season, and in fact, there were so few that they aren't even recognizable on the chart when compared with previous years. And second (and even more important)... The data shows a clear discrediting of the belief that "covid is just another flu". Why is that so clear? Because in 2020 and 2021, many people adjusted their lifestyle in an attempt to not get covid. Those lifestyle modifications included such things like social distancing, wearing masks, remote work and learning, etc. And a welcome side benefit of those covid mitigation techniques is that they practically eliminated the flu in 20-21. (cite the same source as above for details) But those lifestyle changes clearly didn't eliminate covid. Despite those mitigation efforts we unfortunately STILL gave up over 600000 people to covid. We didn't give up many at all to the flu, but IN SPITE of all of those lifestyle changes we unfortunately gave up a whole bunch to covid. So the data clearly shows that covid is way worse than just another flu. It's way worse. Not only have we lost more people to covid (in just one year), than the past TEN years of the flu combined, but the techniques employed to slow the spread of covid were pretty much crushed the spread of flu, but were not nearly as effective against covid. Why? Well it's certainly not because covid is just another flu. And when people compare covid and the flu like this: "Flu kills hundreds of thousands every year, covid will be just one of them." They are downplaying the severity of the pandemic. I'm hoping that downplay isn't intentional. I'm thinking they just haven't seen the data. *Sorry @DC871F, I didn't get any source citations for your numbers, so I can't work with them.

Interesting. Eliminate the population and the disease disappears! Brilliant! Slightly hard on the population, but there you are.

I could rebuild part of the cowl but.....the critical part is where the wiper pivots are. That has to be perfect. I will try to find a wrecked car.

I watch the numbers to see the trends, so accuracy is not super critical. And, in the big scheme the overloading of the hospitals would be pretty hard to fake. Those people aren't lying when they say there's no room left. I don't think that refrigerator trucks for the dead bodies are being borrowed for media hype either. Idaho is way up there on the "you're on your own" scale and the governor is asking for help. That's a sign. https://ktvz.com/news/ap-oregon-northwest/2021/08/31/idaho-governor-calls-in-help-amid-surge-in-covid-patients/ https://news.yahoo.com/texas-officials-asked-5-refrigerated-010202435.html https://covidactnow.org/us/texas-tx/?s=22401166

Interestingly enough, I packed so much stuff to do in Colorado that there wasn't much time left to develop a haze. I think I made it to just two brewpubs the entire time I spent there. Something had to give. Haha!!

Yarb you're in Florida right? Why would you need European companies? I'm sure you can find something within the USA....
  16. Decided to switch over to installing more "tar mat". Where I left off was with the passenger compartment floor surfaces finished with both a layer of Second Skin mat and a layer of factory mat cut and installed. I had only installed the Second Skin on the tunnel. So, cut and installed the factory mat on top of that on the driveshaft tunnel. I didn't take as many pictures showing step by step progress, as this is a repeat of sorts of similar prior work. A bit of finishing work is needed for the front tunnel piece where it meets the fire wall. After that, all that is left is the rear hatch area.
