Why this forum is unique
11 pointsI wanted to give a compliment to the caliber and quality of people that are regular contributors to this forum. Seems like many other car forum just don’t have the magic this one has. I have a 20 yr old Dodge Viper that was given to me by my father before he passed away a few years ago. It sat for at least 5 years in his barn so once I got it here it needed some TLC but ran great. This week I took it out to get inspected and then went and ran it pretty hard. As I pulled in the driveway I got a Check Engine light. My OBD2 reader flagged a #2 misfire. Well, I went and posted on one of the Viper forums expecting a similar group of folks as we have here on CZCC and wow what a disappointment. Some of the folks on there are pricks, providing snarky comments that just turned me off. Won’t ever post on there again. This is why some other forum die. They don’t welcome new members and provide marginal help with excess useless comments. So, this forum is great because we have great people here and like many of you I appreciate that and glad to be part of it. Happy New Years by the way! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk11 points

2 pointsMe too! All my responses were search the the archives. They'd type more crap scolding me than a simple answer to my question. That's what brought me to classiczcars.com and I've been wrapped in with kindness ever since. Why waste time typing hateful responses to search myself instead of simply saying the firing order, 153624?2 points

2 pointsI usually found in the past that Hybrid Z and Zcar.com had a few A-Holes like that Viper forum and others. Mainly why many people quit those 2 sites as I myself did. Hopefully they are better now. I think a lot just went to FB.2 points

Why this forum is unique
2 pointsOn your original point about forums, I found on the Ford forum I frequent that there are many good people on the forum. Smart and helpful. But the A-holes are lurking, waiting to jump in and get their perverse thrills by abusing new members. Usually it's just a few guys that have banded together in their weakness. If you just maintain a good attitude the good ones will usually come out to help and the A-holes will fade away. Many forums are like this, I think. Trolls are everywhere, it's a disease.2 points

2 pointsTotally agree Granny. My thought is if you don’t like the post or can’t provide an appropriate comment then move on. Nobody is forcing you to respond. People say things behind a keyboard they would never say to you in person and it’s one of the problems with social media. Social media works on people like Wonder Women’s magic rope. Who you are is unveiled, where in the real world you might get a tooth knocked out for the comment, on the computer you can be the jerk you really are without real consequences. I hate to say this but as I get older I generally dislike the general population, I see more self absorbed, inconsiderate humans (worst are under 30). I see it the most when I’m at the airport traveling for my job. I get to do a lot of people watching and boy or boy are there some really losers out there. People are living in an alternate universe. You really see a difference around the country and the world . Worst people reside in the Southern CA, Las Vegas, (Vegas absolute worst followed by LA) areas who are a close second are NJ and NY. The south is pretty good and the mid-west are the best and most considerate. Europeans are less in your face and generally more considerate and less “me first”. You won’t see idiots in a European airport in their pajamas with slippers, blabbering out-loud on their phones so everyone can hear their conversation on speaker. I have a 10 day European work trip starting in Paris next month. Hopefully I’ll have my vaccine by then! All my older family members and wife already got it. 1976 280Z Restoration Project
1 pointFinally received my digital to analogue tachometer converter. The Haltech sends a digital signal that needs to be converted into the old school coil signal for the tach to work properly. Pretty simple solution using one of these converters made by Gene. He’s on eBay and sells cool little gadgets like this for a reasonable price. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1421715815961 point

Another ebay car....
1 pointIt looks like it might have had floor repairs, but what caught my eye was "unrestored" in the description of the car. You can clearly see overspray and paint flaking around the door jamb tag. Given what we have seen from "Beverly Hills" lately, I hope people look for another car.1 point

1 pointHe's also free to join and use Zcar.com. I'm the mod there. It helps if he will read the sticky about cars for sale and follow the directions. As far as I'm concerned, all the Z-car sites need to play nicely together. BTW - I moved from Washington state to Texas, and from there to Colorado. Definitely different subcultures, although WA and CO are very similar. TX is a different culture - from the South, modified to the Southwest, and the customs and politics are quite different. I lived in College Station, TX (university town, home of Texas A&M, which is a quasi-military college) and when people moved into town, especially from northern states, I used to ask them "how far back in history have you just moved?" The average answer was they felt like they had moved back 20 years. I met a lot of super people in TX, and built some great friendships. It's a fascinating state with stories and history around every turn. But in the 13 years I lived there, I never felt like I was really "in place" culturally. I am much more comfortable in CO.1 point

Why this forum is unique
1 pointZH, I don’t disagree but people in different parts of the world have different attitudes, mostly impacted by their surroundings. Spend a day in Baltimore or Miami then go to Billings Montana . If you can’t see this difference in the population then maybe I’m crazy. Ive been to every state in the last year but 5. When you grow up in a large metro area you see the world differently than a guy who grew up on a Iowa farm. In the south people use terms like Sir and Ma’am all the time. We have a recent large influx of people here in NC from NY since COVID hit and you cannot deny they have a different attitude about driving, and general patience. So while generalizing is generally not a great idea generalizing has some merits, I wouldn’t base it on looks but on upbringing . There are good and bad people everywhere like you said. I’m talking about how people act in public. I was in Japan on a the bullet train and we were watching a video on an iPad (low volume) and the conductor came and scolded us for being “disruptive”. People there are very respectful of the people around them even in the large cities like Tokyo. Again it’s about culture and upbringing. America isn’t the same everywhere. Why this forum is unique
1 pointI was just about to say that😄 You're right, the juvenile snipping that goes on in many other forums can get awfully tiresome and that is one of the great things about this forum. It's our little corner of the internet where you can let your guard down. The #7 cylinder on my truck throws a misfire code at least once a year and I know it has eaten another coil, I keep a new coil on the shelf all the time for when it happens. No idea why it's only #7, the threads are clean, all the plug wires fairly new.1 point

.01 Ring with Standard Piston
1 pointThose are the measurements from new standard size rings. Wondering if .01 over rings would be a feasible option to take up the slack short term. Trust me, I’m isolated in the mountains! I see you’re in Bama my family is from Anniston which is considered HUGE compared to my current location! Highlands, NC pop 9681 point

.01 Ring with Standard Piston
1 pointThe first thing that I'd do is to stop mixing your measurement systems together. Pick metric or pick standard but pick just one. What size are the pistons? Rings, pistons and cylinders all need to work together. I'd try one of the oversize rings, fit it, and see how it fits the bore. If your bore is ovalized (you never answered that question) then it's probably equally bad to use an oversize ring gapped down as a "proper" ring with a big gap. They're both round rings in oval bores. Most of the blowby will come from the poor seal in general, not the larger gap. You might just fit one oversize ring, stick it in the bore and shine a bright light around the edges. If it's a poor fit you'll see light shining through.1 point

.01 Ring with Standard Piston
1 pointIf it says anything over .43 get new rings I'm not thinking you should bore the cylinders, just get new rings. Maybe I'm not understanding but that's not unusual so I apologize if I'm simplifying too much. You think you live in the middle of nowhere! I have one machine shop and one machinist. His brother does exhaust work. Anyhow, don't do like I did and over think yourself to pieces. These are simple compared to most motors and you have a lot of guys just waiting to help here. It's cold out and we are sick of the news on television. PLEASE give me something Z related to talk about!1 point

1 pointis your current ring end gap 0.049"? thats 1.2mm, which is very big. my recollection of the spec is around 0.3 to 0.4mm for the top ring.1 point

Jdm exhaust muffler
1 pointHi Sean, I found Whitehead quite responsive using their email address: whiteheadperformance@gmail.com In addition to exhaust parts, I purchased JDM R180 with 3.90 gears and a transmission mount. Very pleased with their products. Nate1 point
