The area you call garage ....
2 pointsThis is a dream garage for me. I've done a lot of the work myself. Since that last picture was taken I've insulated the entire garage and added a mini split heat pump for the paint and work bays. I still have to pull lines for TV cable and internet and also run air lines. Probably add more LED lights, build more shelving... It never ends! It's been a great learning experience. I built 2 2'x8' workbenches with 9 sliding drawers each. I'd never done any of that before. This woodworking stuff is new to me. I'm in the garage almost every day. Today is my birthday so I'm leaving work early to go home and celebrate by working on the AAR! :-) Chuck2 points

The area you call garage ....
2 pointsI found some better shots. The left side of the building is a 4-stall barn for the horses. The first bay is the clean/paint bay, 2nd bay is a work bay and the others are the storage area. We store hay and the tractor on the far end. I'll putting in a 2-post lift in the work bay this year I hope. If anyone comes to the Carlisle Import show in May you're welcome to come down to check out the garage and cars. I probably have 10 or so Datsuns. Chuck2 points

'71 240Z, 1 Owner, Sunshine Yellow, AC & Rare Beltek FM/EQ/8 Track
Selling my 71 240Z. It's not a restoration, more of a resurrection. 90k original miles. Matching numbers original engine and I assume the tranny as well. The car was only driven from new until 1984, then parked inside a garage where it sat for the next 34 years untouched. I purchased from original owner and brought it back to life. Engine purrs unbelievably and the carbs were perfect! I did oil/filter, plugs/wires, brakes, new belts and hoses, heater core hoses, master cylinder, etc. It runs, drives and stops well. Tires have been on the car since it was stored and need replaced. Tires can be a personal preference so I choose not to replace them and leave that up to the new owner. The car came from VA and is overall very solid. There's some typical rocker bubbling but very manageable. Floors and frame are very nice. Came with dealer installed AC (all there) and ultra rare Beltek FM/EQ/8 track player mounted inside the glovebox. Such a cool find!!! Even the clock works and keeps perfect time! 919 Sunshine Yellow paint code with one repaint in same color prior to being put away in 1984. Presentable for a driver but to be really nice should be resprayed. Passenger seat and door panels are quite nice. Driver's seat has a few seam tears on the bottom. Dash is super nice with no cracks! Door panels are in great shape as well with the original chrome strips intact and nice. Bumpers are driver quality with some minor pitting. This is a very original unmolested 240Z and very collectible. Jack and tools/pouch in their storage bins. All glass is good. Doors shut the best I've ever heard on an old Z. Asking $17,500 or reasonable offer. No trades, no games please. Serious inquiries only. Thanks, Dan1 point

Brand new owner - need help w/ Christmas gift ideas for my kid
I will chime in for Daves relay work and I have had my combo switches done by him for both my Z and my roadster. His work is unparalleled! Quality, value, and better than OEM. Dave has saved more Datsuns than anybody.1 point

Alabama's the new Detroit/Michigan
And so they should, I did a stint on a car assembly line when I was younger and it was brain numbing, soul sucking kind of work. No union at this plant and management was always pushing for more output, but then on the other hand a few years after that I worked as a gardener for the city with a bloated public sector union, I remember being told by the union rep."What's the rush? Slow down, you're making the other guys look bad"1 point

Painting Urethane Air Dam and Flex Agent
I used Shop Line paint with no flex agent on the air dam on my race car and it's holding up fine after 5 years of racing, wrecking and flexing. Chuck1 point

Quickest headlight upgrade?
1 pointAs ZH mentioned, old sealed beams get weak with age. In addition to the above Mods, ditch the OEM sealed beams and get a modern set of High Output H6024 Halogen Headlights. Sylvania and Wagner make Halogen replacements. You can order these from any Napa, AutoZone etc. Better yet, for a long term solution, Get in touch with Daniel Stern Lighting Consultants and order some Cibie 7" headlights with Marva bulbs. Cibie is still one of the top headlight manufacturers in the world. https://www.danielsternlighting.com/ https://www.danielsternlighting.com/products/products.html Regarding the alternator, I'd skip the 60 amp Internal regulator alternator and go straight to an 80 Amp 300ZX alternator . These come with a single pulley and will bolt on to the stock mounts. Of course you will have to remove the external Voltage Regulator and perform the appropriate wiring mods. The reason I recommend the later style 80 amp models is because they a a modern " small frame " alternator. Usually Mitsubishi. These have a more modern design than the old " Large frame " Hitachi style and the idle amperage output is much higher. on my 280Z I can idle with my headlights, wipers , stereo and AC on at the same time... and it still puts out 14 volts. Makes a HUGE difference in lighting. Rocka Auto carries various brands. I've had good luck with AC Delco reman alternators. I believe they have a 3 to 5 year warranty With Cibie halogen lights, 80 amp 300ZX Alternator, Dave Irwin Parking light mod, and connections all cleaned with De-Oxit, I now have amazing headlights that rival modern LED lights . And the Cibies look period correct with nice Convex lens that match the sexy curves of the Z car. I can't stand some of those new LED 7" round retrofit lights. They look like some bug eyed insect. Cibie 7" E-code:1 point

Alabama's the new Detroit/Michigan
Maybe some do, but the Porsche assembly line workers get to drink beer on their break periods. I found it interesting to see them sitting at tables pounding down a German Bier before heading back to the line when I've toured the factory. Not sure the UAW has pushed for that benefit. Dennis1 point

Need Pics of Urethane Air Damn Brace
I go to place down in the industrial area that is sort of a metal supermarket, I would think most cities have something similar. That piece of aluminum sheet was $35. Hardware stores will charge you 4 x what you will pay at a metal shop.1 point

[SOLD] 73-240Z For Sale, Original Owner (( Sold ))
After almost 45 years the time has come for me to part with my beloved 240Z. I am either going to take her to auction or put her up for sale but before I do that I just wanted to let any member know beforehand in case there might be someone, an enthusiast, who might be interested in purchasing it. This site and its members have been an absolute joy to be a part of over these many years not to mention a most useful and helpful source of advice and encouragement. So, here are some details on the car....... One of the things I didn't mention was that I have a boatload, and I do mean a boatload, of spare parts that will come with the car if a member buys it. Everything from a spare gas tank to loads of gauges, interior and exterior parts, engine parts with a list too long to mention now. Up for sale is my 1973 Datsun 240Z. I am the original and sole owner of this car and the car is completely and most extensively documented. I have virtually every single receipt for all work and modifications done to it from the first day I bought it new. That is, original sales receipt, title, manual, keys and for the past 45 years, all service records. Additionally, my car is registered and certified as a single owner car in the Z-car registry as number, 156. (http://www.zhome.com/IZCC/ZRegisters/original.htm) The license plate on the car is a Texas 1973 plate, which the DOV in Texas allows collectors to use, once certified, while providing a Texas Title. They also allow you to retain your original title, which I have. The car has never been in an accident. None of the glass has ever been replaced. Current tires on the car are Yokohama ES-100, 215/60/R-15 94V mounted on Riken 15 inch mags. Current mileage is 104,536 and the engine has never been rebuilt or out of the car. It was Ziebart'd (for those of you who know what that is) during its first week of ownership. The list of modifications to it is quite extensive and all modifications made have been done in order to improve its performance, drivability and safety. In many cases, where modifications have been made to the interior the original parts have been retained and are included with the car. (i.e. Original steering wheel, radio, shift-knob, etc.). The wood box in the rear trunk between the two front seats does not come with the car. The following represents a list of all major modifications: - Five speed transmission - Triple Mikuni carburetors - Larger, front brake calipers (Toyota) - High performance Cam - Free flow exhaust with headers - Lowered with Tokico shocks and struts - Momo Steering wheel (original included) - McIntosh radio/CD player with Alpine power amplifier (original radio included) - Xcel electronic ignition and coil - Upgraded distributor - Front/rear shock strut bars - Rear axel mustache bar - Rear metal window shade - Upgraded alternator and bracket - Larger radiator - Zeibart rust protection on first day of ownership - Custom front grill (Original included) - High performance fuel pump - Gas tank recently completely cleaned - Virtually new battery with heavier gauge grounds and wiring - PIAA fog lights -Cibi Headlights Lights -Datsun quartz clock (Original included) -Dynamat soundproofing front doors, rear and spare tire area, and rear lid. Price is $27,000 A PayPal deposit of $500 is expected within seven days of auction ending with the remainder to be paid within two weeks, in cash, certified cashiers check or direct bank transfer when the car is picked up or before it is shipped. I am available to answer or discuss any questions you might have. My phone number is (915) 920-9950 (Mountain Time) or you can email me. For any prospective buyer I highly encourage you to do this as I also would welcome knowing the one who might get my baby and I want you to be sure and happy about acquiring it. Over the many years of dabbling in cars I have never seen such a well-documented car for sale. I can assure you that you will also be impressed. I have only included a few pictures here, however, if interested I can send you dozens more. In many cases I have pictures of several mods done to the car, such as Dynamat soundproofing installation, radio, carbs, etc., Car has been sold !!!!!1 point

Quickest headlight upgrade?
1 pointDon't forget that output also diminishes with age. New headlights can make a big difference. Seems like a person could run jumpers to the headlights for a quick test of what to expect from a set of relays. If they're on the fence about them. Of course, the other advantage of the relays is that it takes the load off of the switch on the steering column. Which gets pitted and heats up and tends to fail.1 point
