  1. You and the pooch are always welcome Cliff.......Millie would love a pal.
  2. I doubt he was thinking, more like a long-term, drug-induced state! Must....find....out....what...he...was...on, avoid...at...all...costs!
  3. Sorry for your misfortune. Couldn't you see if you could sell a kidney to cover your expenses? After all, you'll already be under anesthesia.
  4. Yes, have that cleared already...I use that a lot. Pretty much all metal on the car needs to be painted or plated. Only metal that may not get some clear or plating would be some of the aluminum motor parts.
  5. 1 point
Chickenman, i am absolutely positive of the tdc and the timing pointer being in the correct posistion, that was checked with a dial micrometer during assembly. the block is an early l24. it has a very low serial number, so im assuming some one has replaced the original at some point. im going to pull the shaft again to-nite and try again im using a 90 amp denso alternator, that i moved to that spot. the factory spot was a little too "cluttered" for me
  6. There is really a lot going on with the car now. We are in full production. The body is at the paint shop, the dash is at 'Just Dashes', and I just got the block and head back from the machine shop. The head was leaked checked and the rubber seals were checked. It was in perfect shape and the block only needed to be honed. They did a mild clean on the block also. No significant scratches in cylinder 1 which had the cracked ring. That worked out well. After I got the block and head home, I wire wheeled the block and wiped it down with phosphoric acid and then lacquer thinner. After that I painted the block. The paint was from California Datsun and looks to be the same color as the previous blend from CDM. I think the only difference is this paint appears to be a bit glossier, but I think that will be fine. I also got the freeze plugs in and the crank, crank bearings and rear seal. Before and after pics are below.
  7. If you get in a bind with the exhaust hanging let us know, we've all been there before, they can be a pain the in rectum.
  8. If your teacher has an interest, and he should, that's your best bet. Act like you want to sale it but DON'T.
  9. Adjusted the valves and it cleared up nicely.
  10. Yes. It was resurfaced...and agree, it was good timing....
  11. Thanks man, I'm currently taking auto-body, auto tech, and welding in high school and I know my auto-body teacher wants me to bring in my car so I can work on it because he loves it. And I'll ask my auto teacher if I can bring it in, because we did a chapter of using the multimeter and testing ohms, resistance, volts and amperage. I'll ask him for some help too. Now the I drive it to school and back. Sent from my iPad using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  12. As a starting point, start going on Youtube to find videos on how to use a multimeter if you don't already know how. Download the FSM on a computer, not on your phone. You may want to print out the BE section. It has some excellent breakdowns of the circuits. from there, you get to dig in and see what the hell the IPO (idiot previous owner) did. We can coach you through a lot. Also download the wiring diagram for your year Z from AtlanticZ. Philip did a great job cataloging the different diagrams. Be patient. If we tell you to do things a certain way, it's for safety, efficiency, effectiveness, or some combination of those. With patience you will gain knowledge, and you can enjoy your car for a long time.
  13. Obviously it's a storm trooper special. I was probably in the background in Episode? Veeeeery rare.
  14. Wilwoods sure are Purdy!!! ......and a very easy install....now to the other side
  15. Looks like good timing to me. That friction disc and pressure plate have seen better days. Are you going to resurface the flywheel?
  16. UPDATE: - grinding the shift rod worked! 5th gear engages and works like a champ - replaced the bushings and shift pin with the kit from MSA (clear rubber bushings) - shifter feels so much better and no more vibrations at high RPM's - cruized home at 85 mph in 5th gear and felt so good Enjoyed a ribeye with my buddy after we got done (and a few beers of course) Cheers, y'all! 17. Howdy all, my name is Chip and I enjoy my car illness far more than my wife does. I'm in industrial supply sales by day and own a restoration shop that occupies all the time she'll let it. I currently have a low mileage 260Z and am picking up the 240Z's this fall when me, my son and his wife's vacation schedules could work together. I'll post pics as I make progress on these cars and client cars if they ok it. I'm working on a 79 280ZX currently for a client, full cosmetic restoration and a couple 69 Mustangs.
  18. Nice to meet you Chip. Wives are a dime a dozen, Zs not so easy to find. Cool pictures.
  19. The Captain and I need to get together for drinks.... the inner nerd in me is intrigued
