THE RESTORATION OF CAR #304

Rod's Garage

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.  My name is Rod Schmitt.  I've been working on Z cars for over 30 years.  I am the one that did the restoration on the engine in car #187.  The owner of that car introduced me to this site when he started to post my work.  I like what I see here.  I am now doing a complete restoration on car #304 and will be documenting it on this site for everyone.  I'd welcome any input as the project goes along.  Here's a picture of the car.  Will be posting more soon.

Alright, so what the heck is going on?  Rod is restoring the car for hiyabrad?  Anyway, looks like fun.

Yes, you are correct. Rod is doing the restoration of the car for me. I saw the car originally on eBay and RAN over to meet the seller and bought the car on the spot! Miguel is doing the body and paint work (the same person who is doing @motorman7 paint and body work). We are doing a complete ground up restoration as if it just rolled out of the factory.

Hiyabrad, Earlier today on the "HLS30-00304 Up for Auction on eBay" thread that Zed Head posted a link to in post #4 of this thread you said:  "I bought #304!"

My response was: " Congratulations, Hiyabrad!  We were all wondering what happened since the eBay link (in the first post of this thread) showed that the car didn't sell back in October. I assume that the seller also had it up for sale locally and that's how you bought it.  Please let us know what you plan to do with the car when you get a chance, we are all very interested."

Just curious, do you plan to have #304 restored back to its original 904 Blue paint color?

Lonestreesteve, I assume he would have to since he's doing a "ground up restoration as if it just rolled out of the factory".  That can be a pretty daunting task on a 1969 production car with all the unique parts.  I'll be curious to see how this one turns out.

I remember that number.  Are you a business?  Google doesn't find much for Rod's Garage.

I've always flown under the radar and worked out of my garage.
