Probably my last visit to the forum before hitting the road. Did a last pre-flight check on the 260 yesterday. Everything looking great. This car has now seen a whole three hundred miles since it was taken off the road over 20 years ago. Hitting the road for a 2000 mile trip. What could possibly go wrong?  LOL

Out early Tuesday morning and we're staying in Asheville, NC* Tuesday evening and then headed to Atlanta on Weds morning. I'm assuming everyone will be at the judged show and we'll start finding people there!

* I've heard there is a nice brewpub or two there.

Kathy and I are taking a United red-eye flight from Portland. Cliff is picking us up at the airport at 9:55 AM. This is going to be fun!

Cliff?????? Does that mean I get to meet the infamous Cliff in person!!!

That you will. I'll know more tomorrow. The plan, so far, Cliff is picking us up at the airport and spending the day. He'll chime in tomorrow. He just got home from his weekend and was going to bed.

I made it to Hollins, VA, a 678 mile almost no hassle slog in 10 hours towing the race car. Depending on traffic tomorrow I should be there by mid-day. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Pig Roast is called off. Which one of you got caught? :finger:

Is anyone volunteering to give the rest of us poor souls an update on Zcon every now and then?

Not me. I just got in about an hour ago and unpacked my keyboard and found it didn't survive the bumps and jitters on the road. So, I'm stuck trying to type on my laptop, and I can only see it going downhill from here. Typing, that is....?

We had a torrent of people coming through for registration today. It was nice to see many familiar faces going through the line. I had the privilege of escorting Johnnie Gable over to the registration tables today. She was smart and arrived after the rush. The opening ceremony was tonight. Aside from the usual announcements and descriptions of events, we were treated to clips of videos shot by Johnnie Gable back at the 1995 convention in Atlanta. Also "Mad" Mike Taylor held a charity auction for someone to do three hot laps at Road Atlanta in the passenger seat of Randy Jaffe's BRE car. The driver, of course, would be none other than John Morton. Bidding escalated to $3000, and someone came in over the top with a $3500 bid just before "Mad" Mike could say, "Sold!" Randy was talking to the losing bidder who said that he just couldn't go higher than $3000. Randy responded by donating his car for another 3 hot laps. So, by Randy's efforts, ZCON 2018 raised $6500 for Make a Wish and Hurricane Michael Relief, in addition to our other charity efforts. I can't tell you much about the chili party because I needed to help back in registration after the opening ceremonies.

When I got out of the hotel, I could see it had rained, though I don't know when that happened. The water patterns on my car caught my eye, and I had to stop and take photos.

I plan to be at the Judged Car Show tomorrow.
