I would strongly suggest not getting 2 cars unless you have a pretty decent income. Insurance and rego costs double, and you're bound to get problems with both of them. Also, fstr240Z you must remember that your dollar is worth more, and also Z's are more common. When Rogue says 6k, I think he means $6000 AUD - which translates roughly into $3600 USD. I would guess there would be about 10 240Z's for public sale in the whole of Australia at any given time...

Infinity G35?....well there goes the neighbor hood!
I can only go off what I have heard, and that is that Lexus sold more cars in 2000 in the US than BMW or Mercedes. I had the impression that Lexus was a really big seller in the US. This is what I bases all my previous posts on - my ideas. BMW and Merc will NEVER believe Lexus to have the same quality as them. After all, tehy're Japanese!! How would they know how to make luxury cars?

Hitler wanted to rule hte world. Toyota wanted to be a serious competitor with BMW and Mercedes. The difference is Hitler only got half way. Toyota/Lexus have reached their goal. They've done it. They're successful. Success means, in my book, that you have reached the goal you set yourself. Lexus has done this, and have gone further.

Comparing Lexus with Hitler is a bit far-fetched...

Suncorp-Metway. 24OZ the saying "Driver's car" means a no-fuss car that involves the driver in every bit of the experience. It's about driving - nothing else. Well that's what the term means in Australia. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it's just that when you own one you're naturally going to be a little biased... just giving my opinion which I am entitled to, as are you. I've never seen a 2 seater 280ZX though, so maybe they look better in the flesh? A hell of a lot better...

Infinity G35?....well there goes the neighbor hood!
I would rather have a "Z" than a "G35 Infinity" thingimibob, but then I guess I'm kinda biased... As for Lexus', they ARE more well equipt than Toyotas. They are definitely not of the same quality as Toyotas. Just because a company makes economy cars doesn't mean they dont know how to make luxury ones too. Marketing ploy? Perhaps. Overpriced? Maybe. Successful? Hell yes. Americans love them! Australia is unshamedly following you guys too...

Strange how nobody has mentioned how they look... Not sharp enough to look as 80s-tech as a 300ZX, not sleek enough to be beautiful like the 240Z... in the middle... Ugly. I'm sure they're mechanically a very good car, especially the turbo two seater ones, but they're not very desirable at all. The price reflects this. Whether that is an advantage or not is debatable... but if you can, get a 240! They're a far better driver's car, have bucket loads of sex oozing out of them and are sure to appreciate as time goes on. Insurance is now cheap as chips too as they're over 30 years (I pay $380 a year for full comprehensive and I'm 18). 24OZ, I think the 280ZX's only were in 2+2 form in Australia. In general, my personal opinion is that the peak in the Automotive industry was 1969. They are getting better now though I'll give them that.

The Datsuns: The band
I listened to one of their songs. Erggchh was my reply... perhaps they've gotten better since then. I'll have to look out for them.

A Sense of Hopelessness
I would love to take a class and learn all about mechanics, but it's just not an option at the moment. I am doing two bachelors in 8 semesters over 2 and 2/3 years. My uni does 3 semesters a year where others do 2. That is why I get hardly any holidays... also why I finish in half the time of anywhere else. Maybe afterwards... afterall who is going to employ a 20 year old even with 2 degrees? (that's that age thing again) About asking other Z owners... do you know how many Z's there are on the coast?! I know one owner, I might ring him...

Fairlady Z stroker
I'm not sure any "240" Fairlady Z's came with the newer dash, door trim, extra hatch strut (although that could be aftermarket)... I'm sure Alan has something interesting to note about this car though!

Fairlady Z stroker
Yes, it certainly is a bit of a mongrel. And look at those 260 door panels... Looks to be more 260 than 240 (of course we're speaking about the Japanese equivelents here), but those tail lights and tool boxes.........

350Z finally in Oz
Did you look behind the seats? No not those huge speakers... little gloveboxes!!! Looks like they kept something from the 240Z after all....... hehe
-
Fairlady Z stroker
You have to admit it's a beautiful example... it does seem to have a 260 dash, but the tail lights are 240. 1974 suggests that it could be either, right? I didnt think the 260 had tool boxes behind the seats...

A Sense of Hopelessness
Ah, now there's some insight. All the places I've been so far (excep the roadworthy guys who had a Maserati (getting a rebuilt engine :S) and some Alfas outside) were pretty dirty and full of ordinary cars. I'm taking my car to the Z Workshop now anyway. No more risks (I hope!).

A Sense of Hopelessness
I didn't notice the small chip in the paint when I picked up the car and it's not as if I can prove it now anyway.. As for the cracks in the paint on the fender, well that was the mistake of getting it done at a workshop which is owned my dad's friend. I have learned from my mistakes and now I will check over the car when I pick it up, and take action. It is hard however as old blokes dont respect an 18 year old. Most of you have probably forgotten, but the amount of zjit you get just because of your age is infuriating. I am to the stage where I would rather get dad to take the car in and act as if it is his...

A Sense of Hopelessness
Do good mechanics exist? I have had numerous different mechanics work on my car and it seems that every mechanic out there is a greasy-handed, all-thumbed kluts. Is it the Datsun badge that makes them think the car isn't worth looking after? Or have I just had bad luck? Or, God forbid, are all mechanics really as stupid as the ones I have met make out to be??? When I got my roadworthy, the mechanic lent on the fender with his elbow with such a force that it bent in and back out again, leaving some strain lines in the paint. When I got my brakes looked at and the bonnet opening catch working, they told me my master cylinder was broken (well, DUH) and they fixed the bonnet by prying it open with a screwdriver. Now there is a nice chip in the paint between the bonnet shutline. Oh and he told me I needed new tyres. He must have looked carefully, as there was grease all over the wheel arches... There are no Datsun places on the Gold Coast - the nearest one is in Brisbane.. but I think I'll drive it up there just so I know that the car will be bloody looked after. It needs a couple of things done at the moment and I'm not willing to just go to any old place as they're bound not to care. Anyone else have similar experiences? I'm starting to begin to understand why all those people fix their own cars ... sure it takes a heap of time but you know the job will be done right... Lachlan.
