Early 2+2's
Black. Don't forget the fender mirrors, Fairlady badges, or front and rear grey bumpers! Also, you might want to try to find a short Japanese girl who has no problem wearing a yellow school-girl outfit (shouldn't be hard!). That'd be an awesome replica car, but you would have to explain it a lot...

Close encounter of the second kind! (350Z)
Well, I saw my first glimpse at a 350Z driver today. Saw this car at Uni once, but today I saw it driving! I followed it for a while, until I was side by side at a traffic light. I looked over, and there was this 20-30 year old with glasses and a bit of a tough guy look, staring straight ahead. Hhmmph! I kept looking, waiting for him to turn around so I could give him the thumbs up, but to no avail. As he quietly hummed off around a corner and under a bridge, I felt it was time to go home. 350Z Driver Type 1: Young businessman who desperately wants to look cool, and knows absolutely nothing about the history of the Z (See also 300ZX Driver type 4, 1989). Who else can add to this list?

New 350Z - old 240Z story !
The TT couldn't be any more different to the Elise. The price bracket they are in is about the only thing they have in common... As for Audi S4... mmmmm

73 240z on ebay
It's obvious he didn't want a Porsche. He wanted a Porsche AND a Corvette. So why not both?

Early 2+2's
Strangely enough, a lot of newer imports are also "1993 car first registered in 1995" or something. Maybe investigating down this path may lead to some explanations? Maybe it was held back by Nissan for a bit of internal testing or something? Did Nissan ever do this kind of thing (Alan!)? I have that 1974 Motor Manual magazine, I have attached a scan of hte front cover of it for interest's sake. And before you ask, the article about it really isn't very good. Maybe 100 words saying what it is, and that it will be "ready for early 1974".

Insurance- Just got it!
My insurance is around $330 a year, comprehensive. I was totally stoked by the quote, the only problem being it has a maximum value of hte market value - being $5500 I think. When I tried to get a quote for the 240K I found it much more expensive (like almost $2000). Ridiculous, so I have to put up with Fire & Theft only until 2004 when it should go down. As for Shannons etc. that's great if you're over a certain age but useless if you're younger than that. What I find stupid for most big companies you can only have an agreed value if your car is under 10 years old. WHAT THE? Certainly the value of cars older than that would vary more??? Who knows, certainly not the telephone guy on the other end of the phone when I wanted an explaination Can't wait until I'm old enough for insurance companies to treat me like a person...

VIN/Engine number discrepancies
I think the thing wehave to prove here is the "1973" stamp. Like Alan said, how do you know it's a 1973?

Does your car have a nick name ???

VIN/Engine number discrepancies
Alan, since you were around back then I assume, you might be able to enlighten me. Did Australia always work in metric when it came to the roads? Did they use MPH at some stage? If so, when did they change to KMPH do you know? Do you know why it took so long for cars to change to KMPH if the speed limits were already at KMPH, or did everything get changed over in 1973?
-
VIN/Engine number discrepancies
No, you're right, we do work in kmph. However cars didn't have to be in kmph until 1973 I think, so that's why the Zs were mph before that date and kmph after. Why an EARLIER car would be in kmph can only be explained by someone changing it over from mph. That is reasonable as I would imagine a fair few people have done it here to avoid confusion. My 1971 240Z is in mph and my 1973 is in kmph with mph readings in smaller text as well.

Wheel Specifications
I'm very sorry to hear about you not coming this easter... I'll take pictures for you. How about 2004? OK so offset doesn't really need to be exactly the same, in fact if it meant to have a positive offset, if a wider wheel is wanted the offset should be ... more? My 240K has specified a 28 mm positive offset. How varied can the offset of new wheels be before some problems occur? Is it hard to say exactly? Are front and rear offset values different usually? Lachlan P.S. would love to see some pictures of your cars some time Graeme... you should upload them to the gallery! EDIT: Whoops, looks like you had the same idea as me and put URLs to your images in your signature! Good one.

Wheel Specifications
Now, there are a whole lot of numbers on a wheel which mean different things - most of which I know already but there is a certain part of the specification that I don't understand. Hopefully one of you can help explaining this to me, and possibly some others here too. Each wheel has the following dimensions (please say if there are others too!): Stud number and pattern (e.g. 4/114.3) Diameter (e.g. 15") Width (e.g. 6") Offset (e.g. 25 degrees) What exactly is the "offset"? Why do different cars need different offsets? Do you need a different offset if you go for a wider or larger wheel? I'm just a little confused... Thank you

ROFL That's the best thing ever!!! ROFL

Please, do not be offended, please
To a degree, I agree. Why did everyone hate the rich kid at school? Because the rich kid was arrogant? Ignorant? Pompous? Or maybe just because he was rich? Something to think about..

Please, do not be offended, please
If anyone doesn't want to listen about the topic of impending war they can CLOSE THE WINDOW. I dont see hte problem of an odd thread about something other than Zs, as long as it's calm and intellectual. That said, I'm not one to go into discussion about such things
