  1. I'm not a fan of Nascar, I'm a lover of CART and drag racing. Came across this bit of info on drag cars. I know most of you guys know this but I thought I'd post it anyway. According to the NHRA Communications Department, nitromethane-powered engines on NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars produce more than 6,000 horsepower, about 43 times that of the average street car. One cylinder of the eight cylinders of a Top Fuel dragster or a Funny Car produces 750 horsepower, equaling the entire horsepower output of a NASCAR engine. As for the engines's fuel appetite, nitro cars consume between 4 and 5 gallons of fuel during a quarter-mile run, which is equivalent to between 16 and 20 gallons per mile. Add in the burnout and backup and you're in the 12 gallon range. The cost for the fuel is now $35 per gallon. To keep the dragster on the ground, the large rear wing on an NHRA Top Fuel dragster develops between 4,000 and 8,000 pounds of down force and the drag tires are good for only about six runs. Amazing, at least to me it is :classic: Vicky

The 77 gets gallons per mile rather than miles per gallon . I never really thought of the Z car as a gas saver, so to speak, even back in the 70's. Now, I'm not comparing the car to 70's V-8's but how did the Z match up to other vehicles of simular (I know, I know, there's none to us) class back then? Triumphs, TVR's, The pitiful Mustang II, etc. Vicky
  3. I purchased that video about 3 years ago from the A&E Channel. I don't recall to much 350Z info on that tape but it's been awhile since I watched it. Maybe it was on there and I just fast forwarded it . Vicky
  4. I don't think I've seen that one. I rarely watch PBS but I'll keep an eye out for a re-run. Thanks for mentioning it. :classic: Vicky
  5. I do believe that compression ratio is within the tolerences for a turbo. I wanted my husband to turbo his 77 but he said the compression, 11:1 is WAY to high for a turbo. I said how about a supercharger then. He claims that's there's no "proven" supercharger for the L28. Next mod is a NOS mister or fogger later down the line. Vicky

It's the Nigerian Rally! They'll send the money for you to pre-register, then you forward back the remaining funds over the cost of registration. Plus you must ship your car over prior to the rally for inspection. Bye, Bye car and bye, bye money. Insider fix, you get caught going 200+, your car is confiscated by "local" authorities, then they chop or sell your car on the black market. Vicky
  7. Thanks for the chart Craig! I love the detail breakdown. Just like the post some member put up about what all the letters and numbers meant on tires. This info fasinates me. Thanks again :classic: Vicky
  8. Geez, Stephen $50.00 for 8 rims?!?! If I lived closer, I'd take them in a heartbeat. Can't blame you for not wanting to ship. Scott has mucho 77 & 78 parts in the attic and he just can't be bothered with shipping. Vicky
  9. Funny, ha, ha Bill Where's the rule "Don't ask to drive my Z" Vicky
  10. Victor, can I ask a stupid question? What is the "P" represent in the L24 plugs, BP6ES. I thought it was the other way around BP6ES for L28 and B6ES for L24. Just curious Vicky

5 Speed, explain to your parents that an early Z is also an investment. Why would a 240Z be more risky than a 300ZX? I'd think it would be the other way around, especially for a 16 year old. Keep your dream of getting a early Z alive. Let your Dad drive one, Z fever is very easy to catch. That might help your dream come true. Best of luck to you Vicky
  12. Great read Bill. Oh, how I love when our humble Z's are mentioned in the same article as a Lambo. Vicky
  13. Nice dent by the antenna. At least it looks like a dent. Vicky
  14. I wonder what the color is. It looks black but that wasn't offered until the BPE correct. Says factory paint but what color of factory paint? Did Datsun offer any other models with black paint prior to the BPE? Maybe it's a dark green or something. Did you see the prices of some of the roadsters, wow. Vicky
  15. Chris, click the link, at the top put in Datsun, next tab to the drop down box to classifieds. You'll see a few Z's along with the 1970. Vicky
  16. Looks nice.http://www.hemmings.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/classifieds.cardetail/id/2164221 Vicky Darnit can't get link to work. Check out Hemmings.com, look up Datsun/Classifieds and you'll see a nice 1970 there. Pretty zweet. Price seems pretty fair too. Got those "D" hubcaps.
  17. Zrush replied to st0878's topic in Body & Paint
st0878, When I installed my body kit the body man actually had to add fiberglass to the edges of the kit. When dry he shaped them to match the body lines. This sometimes took three to four applications to get it right. Also my body man said that fiberglass pieces that come out of a mold tend to take some time to "cure" thus sometimes making the part twist even more. He was right. By the time we got around to installing the body kit, it had twisted even more. It's a very tedious job so buy some patience and don't get discouraged, when done properly it will look fantastic! :squareeye :devious:
  18. After looking at the pics of this car it has some issues I'd go with the OBO.The dash looks excellent though. Scott

If memory serves me well, on the re-furbed 240Z, it looks like the paint code numbers were written rather than stamped. Anyone else have a engine bay shot of a "Vintage" Z so we can see how the paint code label was reproduced or restored? Vicky
  20. Zrush replied to jmark's topic in Body & Paint
Could you just make or buy a templet matching the numeral design and size and then just use black ink or paint? Just a thought. Vicky
  21. I watched the re-run (i'm guessing) of the Full Throttle show with the two '75 Pontiac Formulas. As usual, they give a history of the cars they're featuring for that week. They explained the downfall of the American Muscle car, prices of other imports, emission restrictions and the usual blah, blah, blah of the oil embargo in the 70's. We'll you can imagine my surprise when they showed how the 240Z contributed to the demise of many cars in the 70's. Ha, ha, ha. Chalk one up for the Z car cuttin' in on the Pontiac build. The comentator even said that the 240Z was one sweet little car that the US car makers could not forsee. It was GREAT!!! Vicky

Who needs a house after looking at that garage. I like the nice stainless cabinets. Man if I ever win the lottery, my Z's would rest in comfort like that porsche. Oh well Vicky
  23. Since your under the car might as well upgrade the bushings to polyurethane. Suspension Techniques also makes the complete kit for the Z. Heavy duty sway bars and strut tower braces are also recomended for maxium control. JMO Vicky
