And rumors of sale without evidence don't do much--let's see some numbers!" You're not going to see those cars trade publicly. And they aren't necessarily being sold at this time. They're being acquired. What we DO see occasionally, is a superb example of a later model. Occasionally we see a Vintage Z cross the block. Those cars are trading in the $20,000 to $30,000 range. I can think of a couple of cars that would be marketed for more.

    It's called "Air Car" and it was the topic of hot discussion in the muscle car market years ago. I could build HLS30-00403 if I wanted to. It is generally considered dishonest. In the race car world, renumbering a chassis is a common thing. Many Ford GT-40s and Porsche 917s were renumbered, for example, when the chassis needed to be replaced.

    Is that a factory driving light switch in the dash? Is the gas door knob chromed plastic or chromed metal? It looks like it is the plastic type in the closed vertical position. Too bad the engine is gone. I was surprised to hear the high engine number for such a low VIN. Of course restore it!
  6. No. What's the pet peeve, Arne? You like the emblems or shaved? To the best of my knowledge, all the Nissan spoilers were made with the same material as the headlight scoops - fiberglass reinforced plastic. The ones I have seen are heavier and quite substantial. I believe the BRE type are made with fiberglass cloth and a resin gel-coat.
  7. This is what would be considered "correct" to give you an idea. Of course, you wouldn't use the Z432 or Fairlady emblem. However the BRE spoiler you are refering to is actually a reproduction of the Nissan spoiler as shown. I suggest you use the Datsun emblem and the 240Z emblem from the rear deck as the spoiler covers them up.

  14. Nissan made a front spoiler for the Z although I don't think it was available on the American imports. The front spoiler is a flexable rubbery material and mounts to valance panels with captive nuts.

    Isn't it amazing what ya find? Why on earth was that car taken apart so far? I don't see any rust that scares me. And the car DOES look pretty new, doesn't it!?! So, crash damage is the obvious concern. I think you will find 240Zs built very similarly to 914s and 911s. Have a close look at the suspension points and the frame around them. I also agree with Will. This car is too far disassembled to be valued anything more than a parts car. Is that a 5-speed shifter I see?
  18. Don't talk to entrants when you are judging their car. Talk to them after you have finished judging. Your first obligation as a judge is to judging the cars you have been assigned to in the time you have. I always write comments on the judging sheets and sign my name to them. Then I grab a rum and tonic and go tell them what's wrong with their POS!

  21. Restore it. 26th wasn't that bad but 27th is worse. The big ticket is going to be body welding but it can be done - believe me! Restore it because it is a rare car in it's location.
  22. If I put those on 26th, she'd look like a Christmas tree. No one would understand. However if I had a black 510 two-door...it would be sooo ultimate. But about the price thing...I was cruising the BMW lot this morning and they had a Z4 coupe marked up $5,000 for the wheels and tires that were on it. I scoffed too.
  23. Thanks for the pics, Mike! Geeze..and I thought I knew a lot about the keys. You have a great collection. I WAS talking about the WASO and VOSS keys. And I have seen both from American Zs. 26th has the shorter bayonet type and I don't remember what's in 27th. I'll have to go look. Jim Frederick had a couple of cars with the longer bayonet type. I remember this from comparing keys when he was so pissed that I found the blanks! And for what it's worth...ya'll kimb down off surfsnake's back. He's been caught with his fly open and that's enough.

  25. I'm not a good expert at this period of key, but let me be a prick and comment that the title of this thread is a little misleading in that all of our cars are "1970's". Her Majesty sports an ignition key like the ones on the right. The N oval head key concides with later cars. There are two versions of series one ignition keys as the ignition lock systems date to the Fairlady roadster. I bought a new ignition in 1986 to replace the worn out one in 26th and it came with the oval head key on the left. It seems to match the blanks. Arne, you mentioned an opposite hand groove and I would like to see a key like that. A good picture for the collection, please. Back when I bought my blank keys, an N oval head key was between $20 and $30. I sold mine for $20.
