I have something interesting on the pedal for the hand throttle as well. I believe that I can prove that the cable was the same length for both RHD and LHD cars. If you look at the location of all the parts it seems as though the LHD would need a longer cable...but I have a pedal that came with my hand throttle which shows how this was fixed so that the same cable length could be used. The pedal is an OEM part (not something that was fabricated) from the same car that the hand throttle and center console were pulled from. I will shoot a pic and post it this weekend. Check back...

None of those pix are of my car, just something to help show the parts involved in the mechanism...and apparantly an incorrect implementation at the pedal end in the one you are talking about. As for the auctions, the fuse box had a starting price of $300 with a reserve and a BIN of $500. I'd rather spend $200 on the new MSA one with the late model fuses...but then again I'm not doing a concourse restore. Now the hand throttle...I just offered her $500 for it and was politely told hell no, when someone wants it bad enough they will pay my price, I'll just store it until then. :surprised I didn't expect that kind of reply. She may be right...or she may have two car parts forever for a car she has never owned and cares nothing about. It's sad that some people are SOOOO caught up on money. How did she get them...she told me this "I was cleaning out my dads garage and I found a bunch of new stuff which I have no use for".

Sadly I am all too aware of the going price of these...I got my used one late last year for $300 (included the whole center console and the correct pedal). Just saw some crazy person with a BIN price on a NOS one of $850! :eek: Sorry but that's just tooo much, I hated coughing up the $300 for my used one as it is.

Remember that there is more than just the lever in the console...the pedal area has some work that may be needed also.

However I believe what you really mean is inexpensive. There is a difference but most people, including myself, just say cheap. I can't remember where I read a nice writeup about a couple different combinations, I think it may have been on ZGarage. In any case I chose to go with the '77 5-speed and an R180 3.9 diff. This seemed to be the best for autox and some street driving. Now if I were going strictly autox then the R108 4.11 would have been the diff of choice with the same '77 5-speed, but if I wanted top end (highway speed) with lower RPMs then the later '81-'83 5-speed with the R108 3.7 or 3.9 would have been the choice set up. This is from memory so please be gentle if I'm off a little bit on this information.

Any stock tranny from '70 all the way up to '83 are all interchangeable...this means a nice easy bolt in swap. You are talking big $$$ for a 6-speed as there is some serious fabrication involved, visit hybridz for more information on this swap.

Yes Bill, I used this stuff on my first boat (a real POS); never needed it on my second one (a MUCH newer and better one than the first). When it dries it's water tight thus making it the perfect solution for boat electrical wiring.

I used this stuff on a boat I have about 13 years ago...worked great!

This is actually against eBay's user agreement and selling policies. When you see these types of aucitons they should be reported and eBay will deal with it.

Ken, I'm so glad to hear that you are keeping the Z!!!! Just put her a side for a bit while you get other things worked out and then when the time is right pull her our, dust her off and enjoy her some more. Things have been tight here also and mine has not even been started since December...nor will she run properly until I get a new/rebuilt engine and carbs put in. So in my garage she sits until I can pull together the money for the work. But I know she will be sitting there waiting when the time is right.

Maybe the guy's from the Netherlands....*shrug* I heard back from the seller and here's what he had to say. As to the Triumph vs Porsche issue that is a Porsche 914 but the guy did say he has a Triumph.

I too saw this car this morning and even sent a question to the seller asking him to please explain to me the contradictions in his auction (incorrect VIN, listed as a 1970 but titled as a 1971...we know this one but I wanted to see what he would say and how he knows it's a 1970 with the missing door jamb data plate..., and also the flat top carbs). All the other things you guys have pointed out slipped by me...but then again I just took a very quick look and sent my questions. No replies yet... Did anyone else notice that the hood is the later vented one from a 280? And God only knows where those seats came from! This is a VERY curious mis-match of parts from who knows how many cars.

I remember reading a post here a while back indicating that the VB VIN chart was not all that accurate.
