Rebuilding and Replacing Engine
Good idea Ian! I had not thought about that. Thanx for giving me more work to do. For BOTH of you, what are you re-wrapping the harness with? Just standard black electrical tape?

Rebuilding and Replacing Engine
Will, what specifically is the difference? I may be blind but I don't see anything in that pic that clues me in.

Rebuilding and Replacing Engine
Yes, I planned on using the turbo head bolts at a minimum...maybe ARP if I can afford them. Thank you for that Will, a pic of the starter would be GREAT! I would love to be able to see the difference...I may even have one that came with the '83 engine I got even though it was not turbo but this way I'll be able to tell the difference.

Rebuilding and Replacing Engine
I see that I didn't get much feedback on this thread and would like to bring it up again (as plans tent to mine changed and I'm now trying to get going on this now). 1) I need a turbo Z car oil pump but don't know if I should buy OEM or aftermarket and if aftermarket what brand? 2) I need a water pump and have been told that OEM is the only way to go. True? 3) I need an alternator. Should I go OEM or aftermarket? If aftermarket what brand? What about the high output one that Arizona Z Car sells? 4) It looks like I should go with the later Z car electric ignition (e12-88 I believe is the proper one). Please correct me if I'm wrong. 5) I need a clutch and suppose I'll go with a Centerforce unless anyone has a good reason not to and a better one to use. I will be autoxing the car when done. 6) I just got my Hyperflex bushing kit and I believe it has all the steering rack bushings and even the steering coupler disc (if this part is not there I have a urethane one I bought a few months back any how). Are there any other bushings that this kit does not have that I will need while the engine is out? Here's a link to the kit I got: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16969 7) I need new tranny mounts so I need to know if OEM or aftermarket is the way to go? If aftermarket what brand? 8) I will also be installing a new starter and as I understand it I should go with a gear reduction starter. Now what I don't know is how to tell a gear reduction starter, what year(s) did it come in, and should I buy OEM or aftermarket? If aftermarket what brand? 9) Lastly I need a new clutch slave cylinder so should I go OEM or aftermarket and if aftermarket what brand? I'd rally appreciate your feedback and input on these items please...I know that there's a wealth of knowledge on this site...I just need to tap a little bit of it. Thank you in advance!!

72 240 z choke control knob wanted
I would NEVER buy from this guy again!!! Just a warning to any who need a part and go looking for it on eBay. He falsely advertising items, flat out lies about what he has, refuses to provide better/more pix of the item for clarity, and then refuses to accept returns nor refund anything. I'm not so sure about that. I have a series I but am missing the set screw so I pulled the one from my '73 parts car thinking it would be an easy fix. The screw from the '73 was a larger diameter than the hole on the series I lever (the metal part that it was thread into).

Do you have any info or pix on this 'upgrade'? I will be swapping diffs and if I can do anything to make future work easier I'd like to give it a shot.

cheapest way to get a air dam
I second that!! I was going to stick one up on eBay and point people to it but now you've just told them how to do it themselves.

Alternative Hoisting Brackets
A few months back I pulled the short block and tranny from my parts car. I had already removed the head and sold it some months prior so the typical locations were not available to me for hoisting. I took a tow chain ran it through the motor mounts on each side and under the block/oil pan then attached to the hoist as you normally would. This worked great!

Any ZCCA Judges in the house?
I agree with Vicky, download the judging forms and you should have all the information you need. However, if you still have questions please let me know as I have judged an event or two where we followed the ZCCA forms.

Stuff for sell on eBay (diff's, calipers, etc.)
You've got it figured out!! Just unbolt your flanges from your stock diff and attach them to the new one. Since he's selling the R180s it is a direct bolt in using your mustache bar and half shafts. I can't tell you the weight though, I bought one of these last year...maybe the year before and shipping was included in the sales price ($115 as I recall so it was a really good deal...I bought a 3.9 ratio though...but the weight is the same). I can tell you that these are not all that large but they are heavy. I'm thinking like 80lbs maybe. ???

Time for a rebuild!
I agree! I'm interested which bolts are important to replace with ARP also. I've been seeing some on eBay lately but not only are they pricey but the seller is not very helpful as far as what bolts are included. :disappoin
