'72 240Z Rebuild
Here's the new one I took off and the old one I'm putting back on for now. Then I'm buying all Dave's stuff to modernize this old car.

'72 240Z Rebuild
Well I got lucky for a change! After reading about Dave Irwin's plug for the ZX alternator upgrade I found what I'd done. Dipstick of the day award for me. I put an alternator for my '77 280 on my 240, as Steve J said "that's bad mojo". 240s have external regulators, 280s have internal. DON'T DO THIS Ignition feedback burnt the fuse and killed my gauges. " The ZXP does all the required connecting in a clean, simple plug. The ZXP introduces a Jumper and a Diode that must be installed to prevent ignition feedback, which will power the ignition with the key in the off position." I unhooked the new alternator and replaced the IGN fuse and my gauges twitched when I turned the key, fuel gauge came up and the voltage gauge moved. Now I'm plugging all the coolant lines that go to the carbs. Fingers crossed and salt thrown over my back, looking for a rabbit too_ I'm gonna put him in a wheelchair. I may start it again in the morning and try to get through the 20 minute run in. So far I've only gotten to 5.

10 amp AGC fuse?
I can't find any 10 amp SFE fuses anywhere! The SFE is for automotive and only holds up to 32V. The AGCs are all purpose and go to 250V. I have the 20 amp SFE and was wondering if it would be okay to use the 10 amp all purpose fuses? Thanks for any help. Cliff

Brake issues! Help
I meant loosening the nuts that connects the hardline with the short hose going to the calipers. A 10mm flare nut wrench wouldn't work for me so I used a small pair of Vise-Grips to loosen the connection. Then needle nosed pliers to pull the concave metal piece that holds it in place.

compression rod?
I had to get all the weight off the tc rod to get the torque right by putting a jack under the tire and jacking it all the way up into the fender well. Then the rod was loose enough to get all the bits and pieces on and torqued down.

Blowby-too much smoke!
A shaved p79 on top of a flat top pistons f54 is a good build. A member on here has about five of them! They also cam from datsun spirit. Elji? No detonation problems on his with SUs. I can't understand how the skirts got broken though. The pistons taper down toward the skirts. Maybe they're ITMs and not OE Nissan? Cast vs. forged maybe? At any rate you need to find the cause or history will repeat.

Blowby-too much smoke!
Was this a motor from datsunparts.com? Seems like it was but I can't remember. You could have done a lot more damage had you not started fooling with the plugged pcv hole. So sorry or happy, I don't know what to say? At least it's in good hands now. 8^)

Intake pop/flap sound
Fastwoman's theory was the ecu would drift out of spec over the years causing the resistance to raise or lower. So it was get a new ecu or spend $5 at Radio Shack. I chose the $5 fix. What like about mine is you get to tweak it on the fly. When I'm on the interstate I can lean it a little and get better MPGs and also lower the temp gauge. I've got mine in the passenger's floor board. Too lazy to hide it under the dash for now.

I got a call today about a lime yellow 240 a guy needs to get rid of. Hopefully I can see it soon. I love that color and its original, no paint job. Needs struts and brakes. Perfect to me! I'll let you know with pictures. Thanks again.

Would the white/red coming off the alternator burn that fuse? then kill my gauges? I put the radio fuse in there and the gauges started moving then back to nothing. Looked at it again, smoked. Then like a dumb a** I touched it. Know I have a blister coming up the size of a fuse on my finger. It sounded so good, I'm crying into a half of a case of beer now.

Well fooey! Everything worked and it cranked right up. Went to set fast idle at 2,000 rpm by my timing light. got in to watch the temp gauge. Nothing. None of my gauges worked. Pulled the fuse box cover and the IGN 20 amp as smoked. Shut it down. I put a new alternator on and that's all I changed electrically. I will get some new glass fuses and unhook the new alternator to see if my gauges come to life, tomorrow. I'm beat! Carbs got super warm too. I will close off that coolant circuit too and see what happens. I've got something wrong somewhere in the coolant routing. Sounded great for about five minutes!
