  1. Well I called up Awesome Z, good place in Houston. He rebuilt my 4 speed which has been working properly now for over 5 years for 650 bucks. When I asked him to look at this 5 speed, he said 1250. Just now way it is that much harder.
  2. Greetings Z buddies.... Been a while since I posted as I have been working my website and reignited an old passion of mine with collecting mechanical watches. Guess I am getting old.. But seriously... I have finally acquired a 5 speed from a 77 280Z and have been calling around to get it rebuilt. It seems to work fine on the garage floor.. Spins freely and feels smooth... but before I put it into my car, I want to go through it completely. Having said that I am getting prices to rebuild an old 5 speed in the 900-1300 dollar range. That seems excessive since I had my 4 speed redone for 650. well the mechanic in me sort of wants to give this a try. What I need from my fellow brethren is any shop manuals specifically for the transmission.... is there a handy dandy resource to redoing these. I know some of you have done this. before I crack the case, anybody want to throw a reference or two out.
  3. https://www.facebook.com/groups/DCTFS/ The orange car on the top of this FB page has really nice wheels... I love how they look... but I have no idea what they are!
  4. yup that is what I thought. I was thinking I could use all my current 240Z stuff as it is all less than 4000 miles old.
  5. After months of patiently waiting on logistics, I was able to trade my old MSA Type 1 air dam for 5 speed from a 280Z. I came out of a running car, and the input shaft seems to spin freely without much play. It is dirty and I fully intend to get it rebuilt prior to installation. I just wanted to check. Having put a new clutch and pressure plate and throwout bearing and clutch collar in my last car, can I reuse those? You match all the clutch hardware with the clutch if I recall. It has been a while since I did the research on this. I was planning on using my 240Z 4 speed collar fork and everything else... I will dig around in the 5 speed swap section to see if this is right. But I am psyched. I will finally be able to drive with the flow of traffic on the freeway without turning 4500 rpm.
  6. That is epic!!!!
  7. That looks good, I know how hard it is to get it just right. I have been toying with the idea of getting a label maker and seeing if I can duplicate the lettering of the original for things like volume or tone or balance or something.
  8. THanks guys, I have been busy helping who I can and donating everything I can afford to give up. I pray this find you all well and that nobody ever has to go through this!
  9. Well it was 7 years ago. the first plate they sent me was for a 280Z I think. It did not fit right, the second one said 240Z on the plate.
  10. Sorry to be so late getting back to you. I am fine. We were blessed in so many ways over the past week. My wife spent 6 straight days at the hospital taking care of everybody and keep the lights on and people fed their. I am so proud of her. I was home with our two boys making sure things were safe. With so many I know who lost so much, I am almost ashamed to say I had little to no damage from the storm. Our cleanup is all but done and many others have not even been able to start. THanks for the kind thoughts! I am okay. My family is okay and my little Datsuns made it okay
  11. I love fuel rail topics.. I made one for my 'primitive carb' set up. You fancy smancy guys with your injected fuel..
  12. just realized autocorrect changed Hardway to Hardware... sorry bud!
  13. Hardware... I am going to be cutting up a heater hose this weekend!! That was brilliant... Now I wonder if their s a way to inject some hard curing silicone to accomplish the same thing. Some type of rubber epoxy maybe. Very nice!!
  14. Very happy to hear it I Hope they make you smile every single day!
  15. I have only had one experience with Paltech, as he refurbished the DCOEs on my Roadster. Car would not run after very well. He had installed one of the venturis in backwards... They do look fantastic though. As my old DCOE's on my Z are getting older and 'wearing' in, I think they could use a bit of a tune up. I may try myself, but we will see. I do love playing with carbs. Have not done a total rebuild on one since my Holley 4150 days.
  16. I had no idea Mr. K loved silver. Makes me smile
  17. careful buddy, LOL.. Sounds like you are tuning like a pro now. IN a year or so you will be giving advice. Just a word to the wise. keep these files and print them out with what you ran. It will really save time later and be a great bit of info for yourself and every other Weber Junkie.
  18. I think he took apart a Z and took a picture of everything and spun a wheel for the price... I mean talk about a pick a part special. I think these will become more and more common as Z prices rise.
  19. I saw me! Great video. So this is what a bird sees right before he poops on my hood.
  20. Wow, amazing pics guys!!! Thanks for posting them. Those cars looks amazing as ever.
  21. Wow, did not know this happened! Just goes to show you the love and respect the general public has for good old Z guys. Kudos to MIke as well for doing his usual above and beyond good service to all of us. I was perusing around facebook and noticed that during the banquet they had the winners and pictures of the cars on the big screens. Anybody get a shot of my name and my car on the presentation. I would love to show that to my wife and kids. I regretfully had to leave the conference before the final banquet. Spent the next day in an urgent care and had to get an epinephrine shot to get the swelling around my next and arms and face to go back down. After some rest I am getting much better. No idea what hit me so hard in Austin. Zup old buddy, it seems that my antenna and your tire were casualties. Good news though, I was able to take apart a couple of old rusty spare antennas and put a new mast together. I just need to get it installed back into the silver bullet. What a great time had by all.
  22. I would be very happy to. I have a few more and I will add them as well!
  23. I thought of instead of just searching for individual threads, I would put a catch all thread up in general. Here is a link to my flickr album with all my ZCON stuff loaded. https://www.flickr.com/photos/sdamico/albums/72157682607635543
