  1. I can second that. Had it happen on my track car. Make sure your sealant is rated for gasoline use. Marty
  2. I use an MSD Blaster 2 coil and it works great.
  3. I also put the MSA box on my '71 Z. It installed pretty easily, and was of good quality. I do remember that a couple of the connectors were not right, but I just spliced in the correct ones from the old burned up fuse box. I never had fuse box problems again after that. Marty
  4. That is my old race car. It had a turbo charged L28, making 330 RWHP when I had it, and that was a lot to handle. 650 HP in a 2100 lb car is just a beast. Marty
  5. I had a hard time bleeding brakes on my Z after installing the Toyota 4x4 calipers. Here is a copy of the post I did back then: I feel your pain. I had one hell of a time bleeding my brakes after putting the conversion on. Make sure you thoroughly bleed the master cylinder first. Then move to the right rear, left rear, right front, and then left front. I also had to crank up the rear drums a bit more. If that doesn't do it, try this racer trick that Rick taught me. Once the brakes are bled all around, go to the right front, remove the outer brake pad, open the bleeder screw, then take a pair of lock jaw pliers and force the pistons in. Be careful not to push them past the seals. Put the pad back in and do this to the inner brake pistons. Then repeat on the left front. I was amazed at how much extra air I forced out of the calipers. Once I got it bled correctly, the brakes are killer! I also highly recommend installing SpeedBleeders on all 4 corners and the master. It will make your life much easier. Hope this helps! Marty
  6. So how significant of a race was the Macau Grand Prix? And how significant was the driver? The story does not even say how the car did in the race. Sure it has an interesting racing provenance, but it is not a BRE Team car or driven by Newman or Morton, to justify a price like that. The EBay auction ended at $25K. To me, in my opinion, that seems like a more realistic price. Marty
  7. I just saw this listing: 1970 Datsun 240 Z Race Car WR Showroom It claims to be the Macau Grand Prix car. The back ground story appears correct. The listed VIN number is also correct. Interesting car, but is it really worth $70K? Marty
  8. Does anyone know if the the door latch inserts from a 280Z fit a 240Z?? I am missing the driver's side on my car. Marty
  9. From your description it sounds like your clutch throw-out bearing has gone bad.
  10. I have an MSD Blaster II Coil that I use with a 280ZX Distributor and it works great.
  11. It is listed in our Classified Section too. Looks interesting. I wish it were closer.
  12. Welcome back Alphadog!! Clearly, you have the Z Disease. I once went 11 years without owning a Z, then I ended up with 3 at one time! The new one looks pretty nice. You'll have to show us more pictures and give us some details on it. There are still quite a few of us around from 10 years ago. Sadly, a couple of the older memembers have gone to the great Z Club in the Sky. Marty
  13. Check your fuse box, third one down on the right side. It is common for that one to melt down the fuse box and take out the dash lights. Your tail lights will be out too. Marty
  14. I don't know of any clubs in WI, but several of our memembers in the Windy City Z Club are from WI. Marty
  15. Congrats on the "New" Z. It looks like you got a great buy on it, with such little rust and a decent interior. It's funny how these things get in your blood. I went 11 years with out one and ended up buying two! Enjoy! Marty
  16. Nice!! You are way ahead of the curve with this one. I am envious!
  17. The interior is easily fixed. The door panels look good in the pictures. Does it have the usual dash cracks?
  18. Nice score Darrel!! That looks really clean. If the interior is as good of shape, it should be an easy restore. Some guys have all the luck! Enjoy waking the beast. Marty
  19. Unless you are going with super wide tires/wheels, you don't need coliovers to lower a Z. You can just use lowering springs which are 1 -2" shorter.
  20. Hey looking is 80% of the fun!! It doesn't mean you HAVE to buy one. I guarantee that you will regret selling your Z. I sold my yellow '71 over threee years ago and I still regret it. But if you insist on selling it, let me know, I just might be interested. Enjoy the looking! Marty
  21. I got my first 240Z in 1980. It was a very rusty '73. I replaced the entire front end, all of both sides , except for the last 12"s, the driver floor board and the passenger side frame rail. It had triple Webers, heasders, Koni's and a show quality paint job. Had it till 1987, when the Webers malfunctioned, threw gas on the header and burned it to a crisp! It was a seriously quick, fun car. Enough to give me Z fever for life. I have owned four 240Z's. There are a couple more pictures of it in my gallery. Marty
  22. It sounds like you might not have the belts tigh enough. Marty
  23. Thanks. I see where they ar now. My car is definitely missing those. I thought that those holes may have been intentionally left open for drainage. Marty
  24. Steve, I must commend you on producing these parts for the Z community. They look great. I am interested in the rocker plugs. Just to be sure: are these to plug the hole in the upper part of the rocker, next to the Silver sill plate that says "Datsun" on it? Marty
  25. I put mine away on or about Novemeber 1st each year. This year I am trying something new for my storage precedure. After a thorough wash and vacuum, I put in 6 gallons of 100 octane race fuel and drove it around to get it up to full operating temp. Then put it in the garage without starting it till spring. I used to put Stabil in the gas tank on all my cars. This last spring I had problems with my race car due to the crappy unleaded gas degrading. Race fuel does not have all of the extra additives and won't degrade. We will see how it does in the spring. Marty
