My 1st 240z
We opened a bar in Atlanta in the 70’s.......called it ”Mrs. Boomers”.....on North Druid Hills Road. The Luvable bra factory was right down the street......the girls that worked there spent their lunch hours making us a four foot long bra to hang over the bar. We drank a lot of the profit! Looks like a nice car @bluez, but how about another 30 pics so we can see more.

N42 with Flat Top Pistons
Agreed……A higher duration camshaft is supposed to help with detonation. The Isky Stage III regrinds work for me…..zero detonation, but all my heads are shaved P79’s. Like Zed Head says…..back the timing off till you get your performance camshaft, then come back to us and we’ll walk you through that installation. But, by all means, install the flat tops.

Restoring and prepping hardware for plating - the "easy" way
I soak em in gasoline.......then wire brush.....then soak em again.

Restoring and prepping hardware for plating - the "easy" way
I buy a gallon in a plastic container. I only use enough acid to cover the parts to be plated......in a small plastic container. Of course you need to exercise caution, gloves, googles etc. care not to breathe fumes, but that should be just understood. It only takes 3 minutes.......they come out clean with no rust. Dilute the residue with water and you’re done. Why vapor blast when it’s just that easy! Put the top back on the gallon jug and there’s no way it affects anything else around it. IMHO.

Restoring and prepping hardware for plating - the "easy" way
Three minutes in Muriatic acid does wonders. Eats rust off......not so much grease. The stuff is cheap and you can do a large batch at a time. Bolts and parts come out clean.......ready to plate. IMO

Main bearing on big end?
It always amazes me how durable and forgiving the L Series Motors are. I’ve pulled engines that have the wide main bearing inserts mixed up with the narrow main bearing journals etc., but to no detriment. My guess is that you’ve got a rod bearing on a main and ended up with the main bearing on number 4. If the engine runs good and no oddities like oil usage, leave it alone........unless you want to pull the motor and replace all the bearings, I’d run it like you stole it! The important bearing is the center thrust bearing......its hard to mix that one up LOL.

Lash Pad 240z
If your cam is stock and he just did a clean up cut on your head, the stock .120 rockers are what you need. Maybe you ordered the wrong rockers……160, .170 or .180’s? .120’s are correct for what you described…… case closed!

su versus weber carbs
Absolutely....Caught me sleeping, but caught up and passed him at finish line. The 336 rear does better than his 410 top end, and the SU’s once agIn proved they can play with the big boys!

73 240z engine rebuild questions
rem1313.....If you are using a 73 E88 head and only shaved .012 inches, you shouldn’t have any problems IMO. Those pistons are fly cut. If you use a cam with any more lift than .460, you would need to use a shorter valve seal.

1974 260z timing issue
@Dolfinz When you checked the position of the tang on your distributor, are you sure you were on TDC Compression stroke? If your chain timing was off, I do believe you would probably have valve contact. IMO
