  1. Gateway Classic Cars of Atlanta was holding its monthly Caffeine and Chrome meet today, and the Georgia Z Club was the featured club this month. While Gateway gives the featured clubs money based on the car count (up to $200), we decided to donate the money to Toys for Tots. With the great weather and spirit of showing up to get money for Toys for Tots, we had plenty of Z cars show up, with every generation represented. We don't get that too often.
  2. Finished the wiring part of the body harness. All of the splices are strong and I have good continuity throughout, with no more than 0.20 Ω of resistance on any given wire. All of the branch points are zip tied in the same locations as the OEM harness, so it should lay in just fine. The next step is a test fit inside the car to make sure. Separately, I was wondering if anyone knows what the blue tape Nissan used to tack down unused optional wires is. I was thinking of using blue strap tape like they use on appliances, but if there’s a way to get the real thing that would be better.
  3. I bought a rebuild kit from Harmon. I have it but yet to start it up yet, but if I had I had to do it over again I would let Harmon build it. Somebody else on the forum has dealt with them too.
  4. I was out in the shop today and remembered to have a look. The master cylinder sizes are 3/4” on the front circuit and 7/8” on the rear.
  5. The 7/8” brake master cylinder on my 1/71 series 1 was leaking. I had good recommendations about White Post Restorations so sent my master cylinder for re-sleeving. Waiting for it’s return, so no in-hand results yet. https://whitepost.com/brake-sleeving-rebuilding-services/ you may want to call them for further informations. Dan
  6. I would have zero issues with used Panasports. They are high quality wheels and will always be desireable if you decide to sell them someday. That said, 14" tires are getting really hard to find, so I'd look at tires prior to buying the wheels. If the date code on the tires in over 7 years old, consider them to be throw-aways. Tires that are properly stored will last a bit longer, but 7 years is the accepted use-by age.
  7. The seller agreed to lower his price to $400 for the set of 4 and meet me around 30 miles from my home so I decided to go ahead and purchase them. I figure they will be a good winter project.
  8. Just finished restoring my tail lights and one thing I did may help people so I'll pass it on. Not really mind blowing but useful :-). When I took them out I noticed the "melted plastic" I'll call it that retained the nut and cap for each hole was so brittle it wouldn't hold the nuts in anymore. Half or more of the 16 total nuts were falling out the back because the plastic the factory melted over was dried out and nearly gone. It's a miracle the PO didn't lose these lights honestly. Went to home depot got this fix it putty I've used in the yard to stop PVC leaks and it was excellent at repairing each nut placement. It even dried an exact match to the color of the plastic housing. What was nice was it was pliable and easy to mold before it hardened, unlike some of the epoxies that become a mess too quickly. I didn't want anything liquid that would seep through to the nuts and ruin the threads so this was the perfect consistency. I had to use a little of it on the inner side as well and it really did a great overall job strengthening the integrity of each hole.
  9. @dutchzcarguy, thanks for adding the detail. I knew that Euro-market 240Z's were available with 5-speeds, but the specifics you added here are great. And I'll edit my original post to make it clear that I'm in the US, and my comments are based on what I've seen/heard about Z's here. @zKars, the wide ratio gearbox in my photos came out of a 280ZX - I believe it was a 1979 - I removed i myself (with help from my local Z buddy @Randalla). I'm honestly not certain of the origin of the close ratio box - I bought in on eBay - but it was said to be out of a 1983 280ZX. It is my understanding that the term "close ratio" refers to the difference between 2nd and 3rd. Looking at your table, either of the two later model 5-speeds would be considered "close ratio", right?
