  1. I think your car is way more valuable with the period upgrades. It should drive much stiffer with better road-holding capabilities. I was going to go for a set of your wheels before Alan talked me into a set of Watanabes. I have adjustable camber bushings also. But I think you will enjoy your car much more set up the way you describe. The stuff you have on your car is just as valuable. I would keep the BRE options.
  2. Neither is Stihl.
  3. Better save up your money cause “sheep ain’t cheap!” or is that “cheep ain’t sheap?”
  4. Just putting this out there for people to remember when diagnosing electrical issues, I have seen this on a couple of cars now. First a 260Z with no turn signals. The hazard lights worked. We looked for continuity from the switch to the bulb socket. The test failed, so I took apart the connectors to see where we were losing signal. All of the harness sections tested good. We plugged the harnesses back together, and the turn signals worked. Next a 280Z with an intermittent temperature gauge. After testing for a while with mixed results, I separated the dash harness from the engine harness, again with inconclusive results. After I plugged the harness back together, it worked. Don't forget to unplug harnesses and reconnect them. Some contact cleaner or Deoxit doesn't hurt, either.
  5. I'm sure the mouse trap springs were polished as well. It cost a little more but I had my lash pads polished on the last rebuild I did. I think I read that in the Honsowetz book? That blue looks good in the picture by the way. I wonder if that is the actual head that was installed or more "trickery" from California Datsun? Lipstick on a head.
  6. Just kind of funny. Nice looking car though. "rebuilt cylinder head with polished rocker arms sourced from California Datsun Inc." And blue combustion chambers. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1978-datsun-280z-117-2/
  7. I was on another forum (firearms centric), and someone posted this commercial that i had never seen before. General consensus was that it was one of the best car ad's ever. 300zx.mp4
  8. Sigh... (pfffff....) 😁 you should buy or hire some cheep!
  9. I agree with Cliff. Keep it as is and keep adding parts to your 401Z account.
  10. Pfff..my phone is 2 years old and works great. No need for name/model gratification. Pfff... Means "sigh" huh? well I been mowing grass all day so after some beer and dinner it's pfff..pfff..pfff..pass.
  11. I think I would keep the period correct upgrades and offer the OE parts as well when you decide to sale. When I read BRE and Mulholland it raises my interest. Just my fyi. Take it with a grain of salt...
  12. Worked some of the dents out of the floor pans. Drivers side had been pushed up a bit Getting there Passenger side Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Same old, just cleaning things up and getting ready. Here’s some loveliness for you Dutch. Gruesome, mess with me and I’ll cut ya Cleaning up the flip side Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. It’s not that difficult to find a 5 speed in a junkyard. Go to Car-part.com and do a search. They usually have the parts graded so you have an idea the condition. I got my for $400 and it’s it great condition. I just looked and they’re some out there but prices have gone up . Now they’re in the $500+ range. Inflation has even hit the junkyards. I can’t believe how expensive things are getting and how fast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Do you have a N47 head with a spray bar? If so, that's a pretty rare, but not unheard of. I have a very early N47 in my car with a factory spray bar. I've thrown away a bunch of stock cams. I might even have a spare from a ZX motor that's internally oiled. I can look around and see what it is. If you want it, I can give it to a co-worker who lives in South Tempe. Here is video of me driving a GT350R with "only" 526HP on a race track with a journalist in the passenger seat.
  16. Sounds exactly like my journey 15 or so years ago. I was right where @ckurtz2 is at and I too swapped the original cam back in just to be sure the rest of the EFI was operating correctly. It immediately ran great and I never looked back. The cam went into my other Z which I sold last fall. If I wanted to get more performance now, I'd ditch the L Jet and go with something better. SU's are getting dumb expensive, so I'd likely go triple Webers or stand alone EFI. The reality is that I'm pretty immune to power, so I'll likely live with the low power I have. I've spent the last 27+ years working on performance cars and no matter what power they make, you get used to it after a while. The last one I worked on was the GT500 at 760HP. No amount of power I put in the Datsun will make it feel fast after the Shelby, so I won't bother.
  17. Ditto about the perfect car. They last forever and were over engineered for the 90’s. I love mine too!!!

That's because it will be 18 years. 😉 According to your profile you joined in 2004.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is by far the best Z group on the internet!!

I used to be on the email string too, starting in 1998. That was pretty crude, looking back at what we have today, but the people were very helpful.
  21. Before i opened this ad.. i betted with myself it was the one with the puppets and the wife from the dollhouse, yes!! It's rarely seen.. I like to ad.. In the 90's when this car was a few years old i sat in a '90 car in 1994 and it was half price... at 80000 guilders it was made from unubtanium.. as you guys say. It was the most expensive japanese car you could buy overhere. (The Netherlands.) Then in 1997 i bought one! it was a non turbo From the USA.. it had about 100kmiles on it but drove perfect.. after 6 years i sold it and in 2007 bought the real thing.. a 300zxtt from 1992! It was the one with everything on it.. first driven by a ceo of nissan and later it was a directors car of a nissan dealer.. then 10 years in a collection and then it became mine.. Now after 15 years of ownership and 27000 km's i can say this: I will never have a more perfect car then this.. what you say? the costs?? I can tell you that besides the fuel and insurance.. IT DID NOT COST ME MORE THEN €2500 THESE LAST 15 !!! YEARS!! ================================================= (This includes new battery's, set of tires, brakepads and oil chances and MOT's! and a new type2 ptu (something every 300zxtt got for free in the early days from nissan.. i bought one for €25,- 😉 The even better thing is... when i want to sell it now.. i probably get a few times the amount i paid for it as i see the price skyrocketing.. (Finally lucky for once haha..pfff...) The shiny object... (still after 30 years working clim.control and NO extra fillings needed! unbelievable.. secret? i let it run EVERY month for at least 20-25 minuts.. thats very important! It's very good for the valvetrain AND the aircon stays FIT!!)
