I apprenticed at an automotive body shop as a teen, late 1960s, early 1970s. Learned the trade from a guy who made body and paint his life’s work. I’ve painted a lot of cars, pickups, big trucks, a couple of tractors, and dozens of refrigerators. I even painted my mailbox. Good tools go a long way toward an acceptable result. I still own all the tools from then, and have added HVLP spray guns back when the paint systems changed. Devilbiss is among the best, and all I own, both suction and HVLP. The difference is in how the gun handles the material. A good spray gun will produce an even spray pattern, a cheap one will not. Always clean the gun thoroughly after every use, especially with today’s catalyzed paints. Once they cure out, it is impossible to remove them from the passages inside the gun. Take good care of your equipment and it will reward you with good results for many years.

I bought this gun today DEVILBISS 905043 Prolite Gravity HE TE10 TE20 1.2 1.3 1.4 Spray Gun Kit w/ Cup https://www.ebay.com/itm/133769934729?epid=28045770277&hash=item1f254f3789:g:y80AAOSw9GRgq3iN Eastwood had a good price but was $30 more on Black Friday than this seller. The seller on Ebay seems to sell all name brand stuff, so I went that way. I will verify it's an actual DeVilbiss when it gets here

I painted an exterior door what I thought was close to Safari Gold. Boy was I wrong. It looks like a school bus ran into my house and the arse end is sticking out. I'm going to fix it tomorrow. I added more umber and white tint now it looks better in the can. Pictures on completion, it's cold down here.
  4. Air conditioning magnet valves (solenoids) and vacuum reservoir. Take care of those parts, and the hoses.
  5. @Zed Head got it! I guess that makes sense then if the valve cover hose is properly connected and the PCV valve is properly connected, it creates a balanced system through the motor.
  6. Wow, if someone is willing to pay 11,700 for that with a BIN of 19K, I got a great deal on my car😀 Makes me feel better about myself... Thank you Copart!
  7. Don’t “dent” the pipe to make clearance, doing so is a poor solution. You should be able to adjust the position to the system so there is adequate clearance.

    Ooooo, very nice.
  9. To add to the insanity the seller’s reserve hasn’t been met at $11,700. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Once the tar mat is really cold, it tends to come off in big pieces. Most just spread it in the floor board, chill, then use a hammer and a scraper. Some have even been able to use a rubbef mallett and just strike the floor and the mat shatters off in pieces.
  11. I started off chiseling away with a flathead and hammer. It works fine but is so slow. I then picked up some dry ice and it was so much faster. I crushed it in a bin and used isopropyl alcohol to help spread the freeze. A rubber mallet cracked it off pretty easily. Speed Academy on YouTube has a great example of it working on their Celica. Then I used a paint stripper disc on my grinder to get the remaining goo and paint off. I liked that I removed it so I know there wasn’t anything hiding underneath. POR15 will be my coating of choice too and probably just a general undercoating for the bottom side once I’m all wrapped up inside 🙂
  12. Don't get discouraged if it starts running poorly as you correct the PO's errors. There are many tuning tips out there that people use to make things work again after they get wrong. If it ran well once it will run well again. It should be possible to have an engine that runs great AND does not smell like a cloud of gasoline vapors.
  13. So I am about to double check the tail light panel fitment but I keep breaking the retaining clips. So I had to buy some. They look really good but they're not cheap! You can see where the old one is cracked on top I had one fail the other day and half of it went zinging across the shop. I also started filling in the flaws on the rear the other day. It's gonna need some more high build...
  14. 391 is on BAT. Says No Reserve. Needs a resto. Some surprising small problems. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-datsun-240z-74/
