  1. Franklin Mint huh? Just look at those panel gaps.

Had a crazy revelation after my trip to Target yesterday. The closing of all the restaurants, mom and pop shops and other small stores is the stupidest thing we could possibly do as a country to ease the pandemic. By doing this, you are forcing EVERYONE to only shop at a few stores. This is like forcing everyone to drink from the same cup, infected and non-infected alike. In my few trips to Costco and Target in the last month, both places were packed with lines out the door. Hard to believe that no one in those crowds was not infected. If I could have picked up my hair gel (That's a thing here in California) at a local salon and my ice cream at a local ice cream shop, I could have avoided the mass of humanity, all drinking from the same pond. Same thing with food. Instead of having 100's of restaurants to choose from, my choices are limited to just a few fast food places. Again, the lines are so long to the McDonalds, Carl's Jr, etc. that I just drive on by. Walked in to Chipotle and ordered to go. Again, the problem here is we are all being forced to drink from the same cup, or same infected cashier. Unless of course, you no longer need to eat and own a bidet. Anyway, just had to rant here. The insanity of this all is beyond me. Thankfully I pick my Z up from the paint shop this evening or I think I would lose my sanity.
  3. Got the steering Rack cleaned up and painted. The plastic grease fitting was broken off and thanks to help on another thread it has been identified and replaced with a Zerk fitting. I decided to leave the steering shaft joints alone. They move fine but I did notice and its hard to see in the picture that the lower shaft has a slight bend towards where it connects to that rubber coupling. That's probably not ideal, I would think that would cause a slight bit of tension in the steering. I probably have another one I may swap out.
  4. Plating turned out fairly well. I'm a newbie and you guys probably know already but the Heat Shield does NOT like to be plated. Its now "ebony". The ends of the dogbone linkage parts turned a chalky pale flesh color. They wire brush clean OK but was thinking about using some pearl fingernail polish to freshen them up unless anyone has another trick.
  5. Done and done. I ordered some metric fittings. Put a standard one in place so I could paint it but it didn’t seem to want to thread in there very well.
  6. If you're cleaning the tank why would you not get out the things that are in the tank? Makes the whole thing pointless IMHO. I've only done two but you could hear a fly buzzing around in those big empty cans.

I heard a radio commentator say today that he was amazed how politicized the CO-19 situation has become. People are ignoring science and choosing what to believe based on political inclination as well as their own convenience. Personally, I'm on the side of science. Maybe it's having earned a PhD, but to me politics and my personal convenience make no difference. Health and survival first. Even if I were of a different political persuasion, I wouldn't be running around in public without a mask. And when I shop, I wear nitrile gloves and clean them before re-use. This weekend I saw pictures of people jamming a few restaurants that have opened. Not a single one is wearing a mask. I wonder what in the hell they are thinking and wondering whether they are not very bright, making a political statement, too stir-crazy, or a mixture of all three. I know the virus is out there, and in reality, nothing has changed over the past two months except that we have taken enough precautions to spread out the peak and save people from dying in hospital corridors due to lack of ventilators. As soon as we start mixing together, it's clear that the infections and deaths will increase in number. I don't plan to be among them. Not this summer, not this fall, and not until we find ways to provide more protection than a mask.
  8. I guess we know @grannyknot isn't OCD. I'd wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat thinking about that one rogue bolt. :-)
  9. I have the MSA front and rear sway bar coupled with Tokico lowering springs along Ilumina shocks. I run my shocks on the softest setting. I think it rides good but does not like pot holes or speed bumps.

  11. Pretty sure that is an authentic Mr. K autograph, compare to the one I have below:

Pics from the paint shop. Got the grey primer on now.....we're getting closer.
  14. I just came back from an upholsterer for vintage cars and he said that my seat bottom was dry rotted. I'm going to need to either replace the original covering (his suggestion) or glue backing somehow to give it strength my inexpensive alternative. At least I'm furloughed so I have some free time.
  15. Yeah, that's early alright! I bet those are the original carbs that came on that 240. Even if you do change to something different, keep those in a box on a shelf somewhere. If it were me, I'd pick up a set of cheap round tops and do the refurb work to them myself. But I've been into them before and I ain't skeered. If you got the money and want someone else to stand behind the work, then ZT seem to be the go-to guys. One thing to remember... If you decide to go with round tops, you'll also need the linkage bits that connect the front carb to the back carb. The round tops are narrower than the flat-tops and your original flat-top linkage will be too short. But in all honesty, I'd pick up a pair of later generation flat tops and go down with the ship. Haha!!
