  1. I can see it now....Us rollin' in pre-dawn, Cars thump'n with bass, so low that we're shaving pavement and of course glowing to the beat. I'll need a new wardrobe and we might have to park with the Infinitys, but I'm in!

Yes, our monitoring indicates that you are.
  3. The plan is to drive to pike's peak, from central Florida next year. On to Mt. Rushmore after that. But wanted at least a trial run much shorter just to see how the car (and I) would hold up with lots of continuous hours. So a run from central Florida to central Alabama was in order (family visit). I decided to stay off the interstates, frankly the white knuckle traffic on I-75 in a car that small makes me nervous. So I took some very nice lightly traveled but still 4 land divided (US 27 and US 19) roads. This lets you drive 65 mph with hardly a car in sight. This seems to be right in the Datsuns sweet spot, esp with the 4 speed, and even though it took a couple extra hours it was much more relaxing and I was less frazzeled by the end of the trip. Found a ethonal free station mid trip so gas was not a problem. Temps were cool most of trip (upper 50's to lower 70's) so I did not have to use the AC much (Florida afternoon was the only time, maybe 100 miles). Car ran fine temps never got over the "E" (I have the 170f nissan thermostat), avg about 24mph going about 60-65 most of the way. I was happy with the long time in the seat, even though they are crude by todays standards they were comfortable, by the end of the trip wiht 9hrs I was still feeling like I could go another 4 easy. I still have some things to do, I noticed a slight wobble when applying brakes I assume warped disc, still need to finish seats (only did the bottom have foam and back to do), replace soft brake lines (not leaking or dry rotted but I have no idea how old they are), get the rad rodded out (some build up in it) as the trip will be in the summer. Besides that just make some more trips, hope to go to N Ga next to get some hill driving time in.
  4. Ha! Given the starting point, there weren't too many options. At least one, possibly two coats of color overspray. Hoping to get this one good enough to go back in service somewhere.
  5. Hey guys, @siteunseen I'm looking for the whole "rear panel", and I wish that was my hand/car. @SteveJ Thanks for the links, I have a rear lower valance section already that I imported that I'll be using on my other Z, really looking for the whole panel. @26th-Z Cheers, finding a NOS panel is the dream, but I would be happy with anything usable really. @Patcon I'm looking for the whole thing, I've already acquired the top piece and the lower valance for my other Z. cheers for the links @Namerow Charlie. Charlie hooked me up with a rear lower valance a few months ago for my other Z, he was a delight to deal with and I would recommend his products to anyone. So yeah, really looking for the whole panel guys. Cheers, Rick
  6. Shaving pavement and throwin' sparks......what a site!

  8. Thank God! ....I'm like...WHAT?!.....So glad you're kidding
  9. Wow, thanks! Of all the builds on this forum, I am deeply humbled. Lots of great projects here. I am really looking forward to being home soon to work on the car again. Lots of great project mods to come too. Finish sound deadening, complete carpet kit, Electric power steering, aftermarket air conditioning, heated seat rebuild, power windows and locks, aftermarket EFI, retro sound system and amplifiers, dash gauge mods, dash rebuild, HID headlights, custom engine rebuild, neon underbody glow kit.................... just kidding on the last one!
  10. Hey, thought I'd just stop by this thread and say, this is my favourite Zed build thread. Thanks for keeping me entertained whilst I'm at work, and good luck to all your future plans.
  11. I think I've found the problem. I tore down the motor and my rings were fine, just installed improperly. The center part of the oil control rings had the ends overlapping instead of butted against each other. I just put it (mostly) back together tonight, I'm gonna fire it up sometime soon and see if that did it.
  12. Yes do this.(pickle fork) In fact I would put the ball joint back on the car snug the bolts and beat away. The preferred method that everyone but me seems to get away with is a few taps on the tie rod end and it pops off. Not me! I had one so stuck I ruined the fork! Granted it was a harbor freight model.

Well I've replied with the requested info. I'm sure you are right, I'm just a little paranoid nowadays.

M10s from nissan's titan 8 cylinder pickup is what I used. Also the one use deformed nuts. We had fun with that way back when, they're conical nuts but I said deformed nuts and got some laughs. I read that Rebello does that to his rebuilt heads, larger studs.
  16. Here is a little more info on the z. My neighbor bought it in 1981 from the original owner who loved it. I guess he drove it all the time. She drove it in the summers between 81 and 86. Then it needed brakes which she couldn't afford so she parked it. She got it to start in 1991 is the story. That was the last time it started till I got it running. The engine runs amazing. It's a little cold blooded but that is about it. It's really a time capsule. Other then some surface rust in a few places. All wiring looks brand new and untouched. Pretty crazy. The story of how I found out about it is interesting. When I brought my 1977 bronco (restomod/ frame off) home for the first time in 1 year from the body shop. She stuck her head over the fence and asked if it was a bronco, she then proceeded to talk to me about the bronco she owned with her husband, who sadly died in a car accident in that classic bronco. She asked if I liked classic cars and I responded yes. She said if I knew of anyone that would want an old 240z. I then told her how it's been my favorite car since around high school and that I have been looking for one for years. She asked if I wanted to see it and look at it, so with my newly painted bronco still on the trailer, I walked over to her garage. And under a car cover was this z. Just sitting there. In all it's glory. I told her that the time wasn't right for me (the bronco was way way way over budget and I was broke) but when the time was right I would talk to her. About a year passed, then I decided it was time. I offered her a fair price, and I dragged it home with one drum locked up! I actually bought it to flip it and I just fell in love with it. So that is the basic story. I do have a deal with her, if I sell it in 2 years I will give her 25% of the profit. Basically costs to repair, my time, purchase price minus the selling price.
