The car last ran in 1989 before being stored away by original owner and I happen to be lucky to even get it from him in working condition. Hey! Glad to see your comment, Mike. I was thinking of responding as well about scraping the glass. The glass is etched. You won't get the lines out. I tried. Both my cars are clear glass type and I bought a brand new piece many years ago for the same reason.

3 groove 280ZX front damper. The PS pulley has been unbolted from the front.

Pulled them off about 7 1/2 hours for the last ones. I had a hard time keeping the grill cool enough early on. It got better later. Not bad, good and edible but could be better The bones for Cliff

I think the major change came in '75 with the advent of F.I. There were different pickup points inside the tank to avoid fuel starvation.. External dimensions were the same until the use of the compact spare in'76. Just being nit picky. Cheers, Mike

Alright so this is my first official smoke. Last week we really just grilled. This week is ribs. We were out of town yesterday and came home and prepped the meat last night. A thin coat of olive oil and this rub on both sides 1tbsp Cumin 1tbsp Paprika 1tbsp granulated garlic 1tbsp granulated onion 1 tbsp chili powder 1 tbsp brown sugar 2 tbsp Kosher salt 1 tsp cayenne pepper 1 tsp black pepper 1 tsp white pepper Mix it all up dry. Refrigerate over night. I didn't get them out early enough to get to room temperature. Started at 10 AM Made some mods to the cooker per you tube and Google Clamps, silicone to seal it up and seal at the doors. Borrow a ThermoPro TP-08 from a friend

I like the clay bar because it clears the tiny debris you can't see off of the paint. The paint surface feels soooo slippery and slick after going over it with clay. Not sure it makes the paint any shinier after waxing, but certainly makes it feel smoother to the touch. Dennis

Thanks, I had already cleaned and checked the pistons. They do drop freely, an I changed the oil on the dampers and put SAE 20 engine oil, as it says in the Haynes Manual. I will now try to clean and adjust the float. Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

The engine revving freely, but not when it's under a load is lack of fuel. Not much to tear down. Pull the chambers and pistons, clean everything and be sure the pistons drop freely. Pull the float chamber tops, The needle and seat (fuel valve) is under the top. The trickiest part is setting the floats.

So for polishing applications I pretty much use Menzerna products exclusively. I have also used their polymer sealant as well with good results. They tend to be on the expensive side but produce very good results. However, recently a good buddy of mine tried a product he received as a trial. It's called Trinova and for a fraction of the cost of the Menzerna it actually appeared to do a better job. Goes on easily and wipes off easily after the recommended drying time. I used it on my car right before ZCON and so I do not know about the longevity of the product, but the initial results were extremely good. You can pick this up on Amazon for about $14. I had not heard of the brand before but they have a full line of other car care products as well, although the carnuba based wax is the only one I have tried so far. Mike.

Interesting that Philip uses the Ice-- Makes me feel somewhat better that someone who's opinion I trust and respect uses it also! I use it, but always felt like I was cheating and using an inferior product compared to Meguiar's, Mother's, etc. paste waxes. +1 to what Philip says---goes on very easily and beads the water nicely. Doesn't whiten rubber trim. IMHO, if you have a 2 stage base/ clear paint the Ice works very well. If I were one of the fortunates that still had original Amino Alkyd Enamel paint, like Jim2 or Cliff, I'd be using the paste waxes. Original paint done with it is like no other---I admire the paint on Jim's car (Fiona) each time I see it! Maybe when I retire I'll get into waxing with the real thing!

I have a very good friend, with benefits for ME, living in Lennox Villas off Lennox rd. Ponce de Leon was a cool spot when I had a bike. Can't remember the bar's name but super crowded on Sundays. Had a skull and cross bones painted above the entrance. Biker bar on Sunday. A bunch of fun! Miss those days...8^(. Covington HWY strip club too. Bikes and booty!!!

No you couldn't. Besides not having rear defroster elements, this hatch glass is the clear (untinted) version. No amount of scraper blades and acetone will remove the tint within the glass. Besides being used on early North American cars, the clear glass with no defroster was used on the Japanese market base model Fairlady Z-S. Most Japanese buyers opted for the upgraded Fairlady Z-L model though, so the glass is pretty rare. Not sure it's worth $2k, but maybe to the right person trying to restore a car that originally had this type of glass. I found a clear hatch glass on ebay several years ago for much less and bought it as a spare for my low VIN cars. Hopefully I'll never it but it's nice to have a spare just in case.

Final chapter, My machinist friend decided that weld-filling the existing hole in cast iron, then re-drilling would be very time consuming, and was not the best answer to the problem. Instead, he filled and re-drilled the exhaust pipe flange. In doing that, he made sure that the pipe stubs still fit snuggly in the manifold. Result; manifold, gasket and pipe all fit like the proverbial glove. Thanks for all your thoughts and advice.

I replaced the fuel rail with braided lines, placing them closer to the carburetors and away from all of the heat of the engine. So far, I have not been able to replicate the heat soak problem I was having before. Maybe I finally slayed the dragon.

You are starting with a normal condition Datsun! They all have issues. Some more than others. Yours looks manageable. Congrats!!

Brisket, eh? My advice would be to wait on brisket -- it's probably the most difficult thing to get right. Start with a pork shoulder. They're damn near impossible to mess up, and also delicious.
