  1. An antique dealer friend contacted me saying he had something that I might be interested in. I have told him, in the past, to look for Datsun dealership signs etc... I do not know what to think of what he had found, they are Warranty book covers only. I did buy them from him along with some old Datsun window sticker sheets, and paid more than I should have . I went by the philosophy of American Pickers when you see something you have not seen before buy it. The window sticker sheets were on traction feed perforated paper he had torn them apart for easier stacking. I have attached a copy of the warranty book cover.
  2. @DatsunZGuy I restored one of mine a few years ago and the one thing I wish I had done was to clear over the long thin white decal. Unlike the other decals, which are made on a mylar type film, that one is just paper and will wrinkle and distort over time----it is not very durable. I had purchased the decals from Mike McGuiness at Banzai Motorsports. They are very nice authentic reproductions. I called Mike and asked him if it was possible for him to make this particular decal out of the same type film as the others and his reply was that "to do so would not be correct (original)" so he would not do it. I am O.K. with his response, but will clear the next one. @JLPurcell Mike is now selling reproduction air cleaner gaskets, although the only one he offers is the outer gasket. Steve Nixon also sells reproduction gaskets, but they are sold in a set of inner and outer. I have used Steve's and they work well---just needed a little trimming before cementing with Weldwood contact.
  3. I just finished refreshing my air cleaner. I am ok with the results, could have been better. I will probably start over next winter.
  4. Responsibility is highly over rated!
  5. That was in 2014 dollars! C' mon you and I both know how depreciation works! Hehe
  6. I first scraped off the gaskets and then sand blasted the air box to remove all of the material. Coated with etching primer sanded then sealer primer light sand then paint.
  7. I have a 3.7:1 behind a close ratio 5 speed. The tranny and diff didn't come from the same donor car. The PO did the transmission and I changed the diff. The diff improved the drivability. First was too high with the 3.545:1 diff. I like it.
  8. Eric, I will offer my experience for what it’s worth. I recently did this conversion to my (Series II) 72 240z so that is where my knowledge is at. I is always helpful when you start a new thread that you should provide the basics about your car. As I recall you have a Series III 240. 4-speed? And you have acquired 79 R200? Do you know what model the diff came out of? 280zx 2+2 4-speed? 280zx 5 speed? 280zx-GL? Do you have: 29 spline stub axles? R200 Mustache Bar? Half shafts that connect to your stub axles and your outer Hubs? mounts for diff both front and back? what condition your Ring & pinion are in? Drive shaft, will it work with the current transmission and the R200? What is the gear ratio in the R200? Are you going to keep? Will it work well with your current transmission ratio? How are you going to use your car? Buying a LSD is a search your will need to read up on. The searches specified above is where to find the research. Expect to pay $900 - $1500. Installation cost into the R200 could be around $500+- depending on the condition of the Diff. Most seller require proof of a professional to install it, if you want to maintain any warranty coverage Last can you do the installation in to your car yourself? Lets know where we can assist.
  9. Jim.....Beautiful car.....Safari Gold does show the Z's off nicely. Second...Mulholland shocks and springs are a blast from the past! Now those springs really did lower a Z, and the shocks were roadable. I wonder if you search the web, if you could find a set of Mulholland goodies. Back in the 70's, I went with the adjustable Konis instead of the Mulhollands......Now those things would remove fillings, they were so harsh. I also agree that the rubber bushings (stock) are far and away the best choice for the street.
  10. Similar story here - Eibach Progressive's and Tokico HP's on the car. Having Interpart Mulholland springs and shocks on the car for so many years, I really became accustomed to the lowered ride height and ride quality. When I redid the car, I swapped everything out including poly bushings all around - a brutally harsh and noisy ride was the result! The poly bushings are gone, replaced with OE and OEM rubber, the ride is now just harshly firm. It's absolutely great on a good road surface but inner city streets are seldom that quality. My biggest complaint is that shocks have now become an active part of the suspension and I suspect that aftermarket spring rates do not take that into account. The result is a ride height approaching stock. Rather than experiment with cutting coils from the Eibach's, my plan is to pull the springs from the '73 I've been stripping at the salvage yard and swap them out after cutting off a coil. I've got 205/55 X 16 tires to retain the OE 25" tire diameter.
  11. That's a pretty car for $14k
  12. 1 point
@siteunseen I have corrected one of the meme's you posted... there was something missing. Cheers, Mike
  13. Beautiful Z Steve. I've seen pictures of your car on the internet while searching for one and admired it very much. Your engine bay is immaculate, factory looking and how I prefer mine to be. I've just came to the conclusion that I want a Z I can drive and enjoy without worrying too much about how original everything is. I already have a 1988 300zx Turbo Shiro SS with 8k miles and a 1991 300zx Twin Turbo with 15K miles that fulfill that, and I can't enjoy them as much other than a few shows throughout the year. I don't know, looking at your engine bay now just makes me now want to go all factory with the right plating, factory Airbox, etc. and make it look correct. I love that also. We'll see. Yes, it was in San Jose, Ca. I flew out there and drove it back to LA. I believe this car belonged to a member here prior to the person who I bought it from. It was also once sold on Barret Jackson from my research. Thanks to all for the positive comments.
  14. Congrats!!! That's a great looking car. I love the color combo too. I have a soft spot for blue interiors, as I have a blue on blue '70. Enjoy! Marty
