  1. Head bolts, cam tower bolts, front cover bolts, all the same issue. Steel bolt in aluminum substrate. Metal stretches and compresses. It's elastic. The high end head bolt guys use a stretch calculation for their tightening. So many degrees of turn equals so much force exerted, based on bolt stretch. It's just one of many things that might work. Probably comes down to what operations you're comfortable doing. The welder likes welding. the chemistry guy likes adhesives, the machinist-type might like the drill and tap idea. You could probably paint the inside of the head at the crack with glyptal and be fine. I don't even really know what glyptal is but race engine guys coat the inside of their blocks with it. Apparently it sticks. http://www.glyptal.com/
  2. There are still places that rebuild these units . I recently had a 72 rebuilt . http://brakematerialsandparts.webs.com/boosterrebuilding.htm
  3. Hi, I have got this , crank for S20 engine. Now in Japan humidity is very high like in a bath room, we do not like summer in Japan . I need to take care of this, the wrapping paper is special, there is a caution you see. I carried it in my room , not in a outside garage. Kats
  4. I realize the car is for sale but have you priced fixing it? It seems a shame to part out a solid car with low miles. Parts are available. PM sent, I have the entire section (in orange) to repair it.
  5. Careless, this is a pretty interesting thread, and I am just amazed by your effort. I have some pictures for this topic, NOS tail panels with lamps on Yahoo auction rigt now (aprox.5000USD for reserve) and hub caps which were installed on topy wheels with Skyline GTR.( wheels were exactly same as S30 and many other cars) The caps are now on sale for 1000-1500 USD ! And my Z432 at an auto show in 2007 just after the restoration had been completed, my car had a set of NOS tail light panels . Looks like tail panels lighter than topy wheels when new. The wheels were not only for S30 series, topy did not make wheels for specificaly for S30 series. On the other hand, tail light panels were only desined for S30 series. Mr.Matsuo said the design teem wanted somthing special, they came to an idea ''sanding paper feeling'' for the rear panels. Hope this helps, Kats
  6. Careless, I have a used RD-150 tire in pretty nice shape if you are interested. I have the VREDESTEIN 175 HR 14 tires on my car and my spare is a NOS Bridgestone Super speed-20 radial 175 SR 14 with the original valve caps, chalk marking, and paint stripes. The date codes on all of my 4.5" wheels are identical and correct for my 1/71 car, although I don't think judges checked the dates. I mention all of this only because, if some of your concern is judged point deductions in competition, my car was awarded best exterior at the 2012 ZCON with zero point deductions, as well as the Gold Medallion, and the NOS spare was never looked at. My main objective was to return my car to perfect originality after 45 years, but I won't deny that it was nice to have my efforts validated at concours shows and the ZCON convention. the VREDESTEIN tires are the only tires I have found with the correct tire size as compared to the original, and marked on the sidewalls. also, concerning hubcap and tail light finisher color, I have a set of NOS D-caps and a NOS front grill. I can see no color or texture variations between these items. Hope this helps, and, if interested in the HD-150, a good deal will be available. I would be happy to provide any addition information thet may be helpful. Dan
  7. No problem, keep up the good work. I always look forward to your updates.
  8. For comparision to your results here are a couple of pics of one of my unrestored original hubcaps and my unrestored original spare tire/rim both dated coded early 1970. Also in the pics is a license plate light that I recently repainted in duplicolor Dark Shadow Gray + DC matte clearcoat. My wheel is definitely a semi-gloss black like the suspension componets etc. HTH Mike
  9. Vince......So sorry to also report the death of the Twinkee Twins and Ding Dong......tragic accident.....they'll be missed.
  10. This thread is only half baked.
  11. I'm saddened. I had recently served him and am sorry to hear he's toast. Dennis
