I think that removing the coil wire and just cranking in 10 second bursts for 3-4 cycles until you see some oil pressure prior to initial spring start up might accomplish about 90% of what you're doing with the clever oil injection apparatus. This however would not allow one to have wonderful inventive ideas and then to be able to implement them with various machine, flame and spark producing tools. So forget I mentioned the above. Back to the shop! That's where I'm going!
  2. I finally got around to making my acme thread puller. I thought I took a picture of the internal threads, but I guess I didn't. As planned, I used 1" acme threaded rod and a S30 front strut top bearing. I have enough material to make a few more, but I will hold-off until I try this one to see if the design needs any changes. I might machine flats or a hex on the nut end of the acme rod to aid threading on the spindle pin. I haven't tried it yet though since my spare corner modules are buried in storage until spring.
  3. It might have been the clutch slipping.

Sun squeaked out for a short while today, so I went and reshot a few,

Update: Paint is on! Went with the original color the car was born with, 240 Green. My painter used Sherwin Williams paint with about 3 coats clear. These teaser shots are while it is curing for a couple of days in the sun. Once cured, He's going to go over it with a wet sand them going to buff off a coat of the clear. Anxious is not a word I use very often, but today I am .
  6. It revs as quick as a Wankel and sounds a lot better. I'd love to hear it unleashed on a track.
  7. Z porn! Anybody see that tub of axle grease?
  8. It was funny! When I read about it being the clutch, I got a big grin. At Least it is something that is Known! Not a nebulous incident leaving us all scratching our heads for an answer. I can deal with that diagnosis. As to catching a break, yes there has been quite a lot of problems. But, looking on the bright side, I think RedBird is still in a lot better shape than some here. (No throwing stones.) So I still feel blessed to have This Car as My Friendly Vehicle to share my life with. Too optimistic, well maybe. But at least I do not go around looking whipped, and being so depressed about it. Given a choice, I choose to be cheerful. Life is what you make of it! Thanks to you and the others who have chosen to assist me on my journey!!! Jai

Great looking car. My first nice Z back in 1986 was a '76 280Z in 240 Green. I always liked that color.
  10. Wow Jai, you can't seem to catch a break. If it has just now started to slip you still have a little life in it. But like said above take it easier on it for now until you can get it changed.

Great color and nice paint job! I would like to offer a counter-point to everyone saying 2-stage is the way to go. I myself was torn for a while regarding paint color. I knew what color I wanted, but I did not know whether or not to choose single stage (no clear) or a 2-stage paint. Ultimately, I went single-stage on my car because with a single-stage paint you can fix scratches by simply sanding and buffing the paint. You get a scratch in a clear coat that goes through the clear and you are into a re-spray. Something else to consider. I think that these cars look better in a nice single-stage paint as the lines help to accentuate the paint job or vice-versa. Once properly buffed and waxed, a good single-stage shines with the best of them. At JCCS 2 years ago, I was parked next to a hyper white (I mean WHITE, have never seen a white so white) Z. My car is painted Audi Solar Orange. Our cars basically resonated off each other and it looked like a scene from Tron.
  12. Yes, you can still drive on a bad clutch. It just limits performance. Didn't mean to add to the to-do list, it can wait.
  13. I right click on the dot at the beginning of the thread title and open in a new tab. That takes me to the first unread response in a thread. I open 8 threads or so at once and start reading while the later ones load.
  14. The clutch was probably slipping. Next time go to 1st gear before you start up the driveway. Even if the clutch slips some in second on that particular driveway you can probably get some more mileage out of it. Just don't make it work that hard.
  15. Great point. Unfortunately the tachometer doesn't work to see the speed - RPM mismatch. For Jai - did engine RPM rise without car speed changing? That much slippage probably means time for a new clutch. A burnt clutch smells somewhat like rubber when it's toast (humor...).

Wow, she looks great! You must be so happy to have her back in such a condition. PMG

Picked up the Z from paint a week ago and finally got it all back together, badges, interior, bumper, etc. I've been wanting to photograph it before the fall rainy season starts in GA. I had great plans while the leaves are turning. But alas, it's rained just about every day since and when it's not raining it is overcast. I think I'm in Seattle. The 240 Racing Green demands a sunny day to show the metal flake. Otherwise, on an overcast day, it's just……….green. So today, I looked at the forecast, more rain/overcast for a least a week. So I just went out anyway, without any lights, and just shot a few. Maybe I'll get a bright sunny day soon, otherwise I'll jus have to wait till spring.
