  1. Looks like I will be departing the Seattle & pacific NW area on Friday, May 1st. on a 2400 mile trip to Prarie Grove AR in my beloved 280z. New house is rented and will be ready. Two vehicles going, the big car is being driven by a friend, pulling a trailer, me in my Z car - just a light load of stuff & my lap top. Some big stuff already sent ahead by truck. The planned route goes thru Boise, Las Vegas, Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Should be able to catch parts of historic Route 66 after Vegas. Should be in NW AR by Wed or Thurs the following week if all goes according to plan, (stopping in Vegas for a day). Have the Z car fairly well prepped ... Front end - steering stuff all fairly new, brakes, u-joints done last year. New plugs, cap, rotor, fresh VR1 oil & filter of course. Recent tranny & diff redline oil, coolant changed last year. Plus fresh valve seals & rail FI hoses (Thanks Geoff) Spares & tools Have an assortment of the common tools with me in the car, spare fan belt, 4 qts of VR1 oil. In the trailer - my stock wheels & tires, most of the tools, a plastic bin with a new fuel pump, water pump, upper & lower rad hoses, bulbs, tape, etc. Any suguestions most welcome... have I overlooked anything? Should be an interesting trip, by far the longest I have taken in my 280z (it turns 38 next month) Wish me luck...
  2. One night me and a friend where talking after work with a few beers about the Bricklin SV1 that was in the show Gas Monkey garage. We thought what a cool car, and after some beers went searching on Ebay just for fun ( at first ), and found 2 ( none now ). One in New York.. The guy asked 6.5 k and for fun we said let's try 3k... ( still just for fun not serious buying ) after 30 minutes we got a response back and we had to buy the car ! Then adventure began taking it home, after a long wait.. this is what we got ! It's " pretty " rare .. about 5 or 6 in Europe here according to Wiki, well this might be number 6. We managed to get everything running, and it's going for road worthy check coming thursday ! People call the DeLorean special, but this was 10 years before the DeLorean ! And it's doors are operated pneumatic instead of by hand with the DeLorean ! Just thought share it with you guys..
  3. It passed the road approval check today haha ! Only needed a frame number into the chassis are required here, but not a big deal. It wil be on the road in a few weeks ::
  4. i had the head off at the time and used a pressure washer (no chemicals, just water) down into each water passage and blew muck out of the frost plug holes, then went laterally between frost plug holes, it kept puking out crud and goop for almost 1/2 hr of flushing, then eventually ran clear.
  5. The new owner is going to do a total restoration including a new engine build. The basic car is rust free and straight.....a good platform to make it a perfect car........he's been looking for lime green. One small crack in the dash, otherwise a nice car to restore.
  6. Thanks everyone for the great advice and opinions. I'm going with the USA bumpers, you guys told me what I needed to hear. Plus, looks like I talked them down to $100!
  7. That's my kind of home décor!! I should see if my wife is good with me static displaying my triples in the living room. I bet she would go for it. Hmmmmmm????
  8. I documented my HVAC installation. The AC is still work in progress but i finished all of the in-dash parts https://sites.google.com/a/thecomputerrehab.com/260z/Interior/blower-box-rebuild
  9. so took the car out to get an inspection today. Will go at lunch or something. But took my first corners in anger to see how the suspension loads up. The Z has never been this good. The steering response is immediate. The body roll that I had with the worn tired struts is gone. The car feels like it can take corners 20mph faster. What an amazing setup. I cannot see any reason to every buy a different combination of sprint/strut. I am stunned at how good the car changes direction and how poised it is on turn in, and mid-corner throttle applications. Wow!
  10. I like the foil backed duct tape. Wash all piping. Vinegar kills mold. Seal everything. Lubricate all moving parts and cable internals.
  11. Go with the rechromed bumpers and new rubber trim. The $400 difference wIll seem insignificant when your project is complete and the Z looks like new. Dennis
  12. My company provided most of the parts for this build. http://wheelerdealers.discoveryuk.com/car/datsun-240z/ The Datsun episode will be part of the series 'double stacked premiere' on the 5th August at 10PM 8/5 @ 9P Wheeler Dealers: USA (S12A) Ep. - '65 GTO 8/5 @ 10P Wheeler Dealers: USA (S12A) Ep. - '72 Datsun 240z
  13. Common metric thread size on the bolts holding in the unit. YES- wash that puppy down. I used foamed back headliner stuff from Joanne Fabrics and glued it down good. Lube up any hinge points. Vent tubes can probably be found cheap enough used to replace bad ones. I have a few extra. AC can be done afterwards
  14. I love my electric pump & its so much more reliable than the mechanical one. Here's my write up for reference: http://jarvas240z.blogspot.com/2013/01/electric-fuel-pump-installation.html
