I don't know a lot about what to look for in a restoration but the gap of the front wheels did catch my eye. Seems like the right wheel is further forward than the left, even though the wheels both seem to be pointed straight ahead. No pictures from underneath either. This would make me look closer on any car, even a cheap one.

Believe it or not - but that difference in R & L front wheels - was very common. Most people didn't notice it - until they went to a larger wheel/tire size.. Some of it could be adjusted out by shifting the lower finisher panels over a bit - but it was still there only to a lessor extent.

Also agree - any car like this should be presented with clear pictures of the undercarriage.

Although not really a Concours Restoration - it might check out to be a very nice 240Z - - but I'm not seeing anything close to $38K in todays market. With the minor issues - something closer to $20K might not be too bad.. {if the undercarriage holds up to inspection}.

I traveled from California to Upstate New York to inspect the car way back in April of 2002, when it was advertised in Hemmings Motor News. At that time the asking price was around $12-14K.

The car had small rust bubbles on the lower rear fender (driver side, I think), which concerned me based on the asking price back then. The other turn off was that I contacted the dealership days in advance that I was flying out to see it. When I arrived the car was still sitting in an outdoor carport coated with dust and it had a dead battery. Frankly, I would have hoped they would have prep it and made sure it started before I arrived. Otherwise, other than the non-original mods others have pointed out, the car was solid. I assume that car has been repainted since I saw it last.

Beautiful car and I'll also be interested to see what it goes for. Regardless of its selling price, it's pretty awesome just to see a 240Z in the company of some of the other cars in those photos.

Someone mentioned the seat pattern is wrong. That's because the seats are wrong. The car wouldn't have had fully reclining seats until 1972.
