A friend of mine bought a 260Z that was in a storage locker for 40 years. A real barn find! It was heavily modified for racing back in the 1970's and then went into storage. We pulled the engine and transmission out today and can't figure out what the transmission is. We thought it was from a roadster but it has a zcar bell housing. Here are some pics. Any information, comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you. -Mike

My 280z tail light panels have several bad areas, mostly around the small holes that hold the bezels to the panel, and a couple of mounts broken off that hold the tail light housing to the panel. What is everyone doing to repair? I'm thinking building up the broken mounts with epoxy and then drilling/tapping. But no good options for those extremely thin holes for the bezel mounts. I guess I could epoxy the bezels to the panels? Are there decent aftermarket options?

I am putting my steering column back in. Wondering which way the coupler bolts go. My pictures prior to taking the car apart show the nuts towards the steering rack. When I look at the parts diagram it shows the nuts towards the firewall (#30,31,32). Just trying to figure out where my nuts go 🙂

Hey all. So when I got my project car, it wasn't complete and among the missing parts was one front wiper arm. The problem is that the other arm was removed and in the back of the car so I don't know which side it originally came from. I know both blades are 18" but it's the arms I need. So my question is this: Are both arms the same? I have seen them sometimes with different part numbers and other times the same, so I don't know either way. If they're different then I need to figure out which side I have already so I order the right one.

Several threads have briefly discussed rubber mats that originally came in some early North American 240Zs, but I thought it would be good to have a separate thread to discuss more of the details. As Alan (HS30-H) and others have noted, rubber mats came standard on some Japanese home market S30 models and may have been available as options on all of them (maybe Alan or Kats can clarify for us). I am attaching some pictures of the rubber mats from HLS30-00032 (a 10/69 production car). Here are some questions I have: 1. I have only seen rubber mats for the rear deck and the areas behind the seats. Did the cars also come with rubber mats for the front drivers and pass…

I have some rust on the lower section of one of my doors ('70 240z). The body shop said they can fabricate a piece for it. But I told them I can get a new lower section of the door (I assume they are made by Tabco). The door also has some minor dents in it and holes for the non factory side mirror. So it needs a little additional body work done to it. Instead of buying the entire lower part of the door skin, I have thought about buying an entire door skin instead. The body shop liked that idea but I have no idea how good they are. Has anyone ever purchased those entire door skins off Ebay? I think they are the same ones that zcardepot sold but are out of stock.…

Just got an email from resurrected classics. They have repro fenders, hatch, etc in stock. No clue as to the quality, but I was unable to find a fender from anyone else in stock when I was looking. I ended up making one out of two. No affliation with the company, except I have bought stuff from them that was good quality. Just thought I would share in case someone else was looking for them.

So I know exhaust smells the the cabin is an age old problem, there are tons of threads about it and I think I’ve read them all over the years. I restored a 72 and knew about the issue so I was careful to address any and all leak points I was aware of during restoration. I replaced all the surge tank hoses, and all the grommets from the fire wall back to the hatch of the car. I have ensured my tail light gaskets are good, my hatch gasket is perfectly sealed, the shifter boot is sealed etc. I have the car running and driving/handling better than I ever thought it would. When the windows are up, no smells but the minute I roll the window down I get exhaust. …

So, I wanted to bring up this topic to get a better understanding of the gasoline these L24-L28 engines were designed for. It is my understanding that modern cars today are able to burn various blends of gasoline and ethanol. Older cars are not as well suited. I believe it is a combination of metals used in valves and such and the ability for modern cars to adjust timing to compensate for fuel differences. I’m not sure when regular gas went away but I think it was in the mid to early 90’s. I had a 66 VW in college in 1990 and could find regular gas everywhere. Then I recall later having to buy lead additives when I still had that car in 2001. It was stolen in …

Hey guys, I'd like to replace the window frames (already have replacements) on my 240Z and have OEM mirrors drilled into my doors. Can you recommend a shop in the So Cal area that can do a good job? Thanks!

I am wondering who everyone is using around the country and how do you feel about the results? It would be nice to find a plater that could handle the Datsun hardware and make it look good but wasn't irritated at helping the hobbyist out. Distance is really irrelevant because the difference in postage is insignificant to getting good plating. I have been trying out a plater in Phoenix who will for the immediate future remain nameless. I have been less than impressed!!! I sent a package out weeks ago. Got strung along with they're almost done, almost done for the last couple of weeks. They called and took payment last week and I received a box today. The par…
