  1. From a brief conversation I had with Tamura san at ZCON, I can tell you not to pin your hopes on a straight 6 in a future Z. He was kind enough to explain to me that there was too much flex possible in the crankshaft in a high revving application as opposed to using a V6 block. I would speculate that the 3 liter V6 with turbocharging will play a role future Z cars. It was an interesting exchange. Nissan has been very supportive of the Z. They had a significant presence at the Mitty, Monterey and ZCON. The American market conditions don't support the Z car. You hardly see any front engine/rear drive vehicles in the American new car market that aren't SUVs or trucks. How much is Nissan willing to spend on a platform that essentially a one-off? I would expect some kind of mild evolution of the 370Z platform for the new Z car with sheet metal that goes with that platform. I would not be surprised if there are people in Nissan that might favor the retro appearance, but I'm not sure if it would work on the current platform. I think the proportions would look squished.
  2. Post photos of what you have.

Is there some way you could construct a tube-shaped tank and dip the shafts while attached in evaporust?
  4. Make sure the hoses between the tank and fuel pump are in good shape. If there are small cracks, it may pull air in without leaking fuel out.

If you don't understand much about electrical issues and LEDs, rely on a website like Superbrightleds.com. The exterior bulbs will be 1156, 1157 and type 67 (marker lights and license plate lights). Match the color of the LEDs to the color of the lens. For interior, most will be BA9 bulbs. You may have to remove the lens from the gauges to get the LED bulbs to fit, though. I can't remember the festoon bulb size for the dome off the top of my head, and the map light will differ between the 240Z and the 260Z/280Z. Some of the interior lights in the 260Z & 280Z will be BA7 (hazard, seat belt, etc.).
  6. I would think he was misquoted. Chris is the executive director of the ZCCA and knows 240Zs fairly well.
  7. I know it will be in July. I don't have the postcard with me that they passed out at the closing ceremony. They should be getting their pages set up soon on the ZCON.org website, too. I believe the judged car show will be indoors.
  8. Branson with Nashville in 2020.
  9. By the way, if any of the cars in your collection have working air conditioning, you may want to bring that one. ZCON 2020 will probably be in the summer, and Nashville is VERY humid in the summer.
  10. Kats, Let's face it. ANY of those would be welcome. Just think of ZCON 2020 as a continuation of the celebration starting in Japan in December 2019. There's no reason we can't celebrate the anniversary for a full year.
  11. Alan, the North American concept of "Model Year" doesn't have much place in sanity, either. A car manufacturer can start calling a product a "2020 WizBang" starting on Jan 1, 2019. Heck, I purchased a "2012 Mustang" in June 2011. What's even more confusing is that some government requirements (safety and/or emissions) are based upon calendar year, and some are based upon model year. At least that was the case in the past. Ford used to target a new Mustang model (or special edition) for April of the round number anniversaries. Many people anticipated the rollout of the 2015 Mustang in April of 2015, but I believe it was introduced in the typical fall roll-out timeframe. Holding ZCON 2018 in October is somewhat of an anomaly as far as ZCONs go. Our planning committee decided to forgo the typical summer swelter for some nice autumn temperatures. October is also one of the driest months in the area. On the other hand, if it was typical for ZCON to happen closer to the roll-out date of the Z, I'm not sure that overrule the desire of most people to pay more attention to the model year.
  12. Typically ZCON celebrates the anniversaries based upon model year designation and not introduction/sales dates. For instance the 1995 convention celebrated the 25th anniversary, the 2010 convention celebrated the 40th anniversary, and the 2015 convention celebrated the 45th anniversary. If Nissan corporate expressed any desire to consider it differently, the ZCCA would make that change.
  13. Maybe you could start planning ahead for 2020. ZCON 2018 set the bar for the highest ZCON attendance ever. I'm thinking the 50th anniversary of the 240Z might make it where the 2020 convention could beat it.
  14. Here is some 4K footage I shot at the Judged Car Show, one of the few opportunities I got to play with photography/video this past week. The music may be a little much. There was music playing at the show, and I didn't want to worry about copyrights, so I found some royalty free music to substitute. The file is really huge: https://youtu.be/zgLgI6YWWtY. If you have a 4K monitor or 4K TV with YouTube, you may want to watch it that way to get the full effect of the video.
  15. Jim2, a few photos of your cars (and of yourselves) ended up in this article on ZCON! http://www.speedhunters.com/2018/10/welcome-atlanta-zcon-style/ @Zup @S30Driver
  16. You missed a good one, Mike. It was the biggest attendance-wise in ZCON history.
  17. The ZCON 2018 photo with the ZCON 1995 photo that inspired it. Both were taken at Road Atlanta.
  18. I got the poster series framed as well as the signed event post.
  19. I'm still wondering what Mad Mike was going to say about Cody at the Closing Banquet.
  20. So are you the one I heard about taking people off-road on the mountain drive?
  21. Well, it has been put to bed. The closing banquet room was packed. We had raffles, recognitions, auctions for charities, tons of car show awards, and a nice presentation from the next group of insane or naive bastards who want to take the baton to Branson for 2019. Then the room emptied out. I did ask Tamura-san what was the chance of Nissan using a straight 6 in their sports car. I know that current packaging makes it almost impossible, but he took the time to talk about other factors like the limitations of the straight 6 with regard to higher RPM applications. Where else but at ZCON can you get that kind of access? I haven't had a conference call in over a week now, but I'm not suffering from withdrawals. The week of somewhat controlled chaos is over. It was great to see how the team worked out pretty much any issue that came up. I have heard that some ZCON teams aren't on speaking terms after all is said and done. I don't think that applies to our group. Thank you for all of you who made the trip to my neck of the woods. I'm sorry I couldn't be more social, but I needed to help my team take care of a few hundred of our closest Z friends. ? If you ever want to drop back by, I'll be more than happy to show you my favorite roads and BBQ joints. I hope you enjoyed your visit. I have most of my things packed. I'll get a few hours of sleep and go over to the Sonesta to say farewell to anybody starting off their trips back home. Then it's my turn to take the short trip back to my house.
  22. I hope you guys had a good time there.
  23. Sorry, Mike. My camera has been stowed away for a lot of ZCON. I had to lock myself in my hotel room to get some of the background work done for the convention. However, I'm glad to hear that most people seem to be happy about how things went.
  24. I haven't had the camera out too much this week. I knew in my heart it would be that way, though I didn't want to be. However, I made up for it other ways. 1. I got to work with a great team that no matter what disagreements we might have had, we put differences aside and worked together. 2. I had the privilege of assisting Matsuo-san put together the slides for his presentation. 3. I got to spend some more time hanging out with John & Sylvia at the track. I leave John alone. He has plenty of other people bothering him. Sylvia is a hoot. 4. Johnnie Gable shared some of her stories with me. There isn't much that can slow her down. Organizing a ZCON is a wonderful experience that I hope never to do again. My hat is off to the ZCCA directors for putting the effort into making it happen year in and year out.
