Help ID early air filter assembly
With that air filter the way it is I wonder where the float bowl vents went? The one that's there should be connected to the hose from the valve cover.

Says it sold for $38K.

Z's on BAT and other places collection
If I were looking for a Z this car fits the bill. Probably scary fun to drive. In the comments it sounds like the seller is upfront about some things that need to be fixed like the power steering.

Ignition-keyed wiring
I found a 12v switched wire here under the blue tape. Used it for my fan controller that I put on the firewall. I did do the headlight relays where I removed the voltage regulator when I did the internally regulated alternator.

Z's on BAT and other places collection
Wow, this is pretty cool and it's not April 1st. This should be a fun auction to watch. A note on the blue car that appears to be a pre 21000 car. The map light is hooded which is the same as my early car and also @Johnz1971 car that we discussed here. 1970 Wiring Diagram - Page 9 - Electrical - Classic Zcar Community

Hole help
If the hole is just next to the rear wheel well in front of where the "wall" goes up to the rear deck floor I think it's just a rubber plug. I believe the indent just below right of your finger is where a seat belt retractor would go.

The OG 240Z - Reanimation Project
If originality is the goal maybe something like this would help your back. https://www.amazon.com/SAMSONITE-Ergonomic-Lumbar-Support-Pillow/dp/B072K59NYZ/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?th=1 Since originality has not been a thing for me I took the "comfort" approach and replaced the seats in my early 71 240Z with seats I scored from a 77 280Z with new seat foam and new leather seat covers. The big things for me were the seat back and the spring base of the seat bottom vs the straps. With the original seats I hated the extremely limited range of adjusting the recliner angle, with the 77 seats I can easily adjust the tilt and tilt the seat back way forward for access to the tool storage compartments on the floor behind the seats.

@Captain Obvious Curious, once your back gets rested what are your plans for the car now that it has pretty much proven itself as road worthy?

saturday night music thread
I've been stuck on this album for a couple of weeks now. I'll put on something else and after that finishes I'll say to myself... Let's give John Hiatt - Walk On another play.

1972 240z tachometer not reading nor working with MSD blast 2 coil. Any solutions?
Thanks for the reply and it does make sense. Maybe I'll see if I can find another tach or a replacement smoke kit. Hopefully Lucas parts would be compatible with our Z cars!

1972 240z tachometer not reading nor working with MSD blast 2 coil. Any solutions?
@cgsheen1 Maybe you can help with my tach. After my mechanic did my zx distributor in my 240Z all was well for some time so I guess it's wired correctly. Then one day I was out for a drive and watched the tach all of a sudden start climbing and in a few seconds it had gone all the way over to 8. I shut the car off and sat for a minute then started it back up and ever since it doesn't go above about 3500 RPM. My ballast resistor is removed. Other than that my car runs just fine. Any ideas, maybe a coil change? There's no marking on my current coil so I don't know what ohm it is.

The OG 240Z - Reanimation Project
@Captain Obvious What is the build date of your car? Is your map light in the dash hooded? I ask because there are a couple of us with pre HLS30-21000 that have hooded map lights. The hooded map light is one of the things that Datsun stated would be updated for the 21000+ cars.

1972 240z tachometer not reading nor working with MSD blast 2 coil. Any solutions?
You didn't mention which TachMatch Device you installed? I did a ZX matchbox distributor with removed resistor on my 12/70 car. My tach almost works but doesn't seem to go any higher than about 3500 RPM.

I was Surprised...
Wondering where you've installed the obligatory rust on "Lilly" ?? 😉

Took the Z to a show at a local Chevy dealer. When I pulled in the dealership owner said "We never see these cars, I want you parked at the entrance".

Artificial Intelligence And Automobiles
A very early AI movie (and there's a trilogy of 3 books) is "Colossus: The Forbin Project" released in 1970. And yes, we lose control of it.

The OG 240Z - Reanimation Project
I never lock my 12/70 240Z. It's garaged almost 100% of the time. When out it's for a show or cruise night or visiting friends. There's nothing in the car that really worries me and I'd rather have it just stolen than having someone break a window to get what they're after!

Z Restoration Progam
Is this like Datsun saying the hooded map light was one of the changes for 21000 and beyond yet 2 of us with 12/70 cars have hooded map lights. I would think it possible for Datsun to document zinc if that was the direction they were going but I could also see them using up cad NOS if they had it.

Interesting electrical issue- Series one car......
Then I would guess that with the electronic flasher it makes no difference since it's not load related. And in the case of my all LED bulbs the load (even with all 8 hazard lights blinking) is insignificant.

Options for series 1 dashboard area above hazard switch?
I left mine blank, but I don't have driving lights. I did repurpose the slot for the manual throttle next to the choke for the antenna switch when I swapped out the stock radio back in '91 for a Sony cassette player that I've now replaced in 2017 with a RetroSound Bluetooth radio. Our son 3D printed the faceplate for the radio with the raised lettering and the surround of the radio face that I painted white so it has a more stock look.

@WJ4Fun When I did the LED conversion on all my lights I used the same flasher for both blinker and hazard lights and both work just fine. No idea why Nissan would have different part #'s for the flashers.

Z's on BAT and other places collection
They've added some pictures for the "barn find". The steering wheel is not from a early car, it has a cap on the dash, caked sludge on the oil pump, you can see rust in the picture looking down on the driver rocker... Engine bay is also in the new pictures, pretty scary looking.
