  1. From the picture it appears to me that it's missing the gasket so the lights show through where it attaches.
  2. What size is that Mishimoto fan? And would you just use the Mishimoto mounting kit to attach it?
  3. @Patcon I went and measured the wiper arms in my early 71 car and the longer wiper arm is on the passenger side with the shorter arm on the drivers side.
  4. Other than the faceplate that you've already removed, I think there's also screws in the side that connect to a bracket that must be removed. It's been years since I removed mine. I think those screws are accessible from behind the lower dash. It seems like there's 3 connections on the rear, antenna, power and speaker that need to be unplugged. Can't remember if the antenna up/down switch is a separate connection that must be dealt with. Since I went aftermarket I relocated the antenna up/down switch into the blank spot in the console where the hand throttle would be but I don't think that's there in the 72 year cars.
  5. And as @Zed Head says you'll probably end up doing more. There were 3 things I listed above that I think didn't "have to be done" to wake the car up were the headers/exhaust, ZX dizzy and the electric fuel pump. Other things I did were the 60Amp alternator upgrade from MSA with the internal regulator eliminating the mechanical regulator, the Dave Irwin headlight harness to eliminate the high power draw through the combo switch & fusebox, all LED lights except the dash, replaced the seats from a 77 Z so I had the full seat articulation (leather for new seat covers, shift boot & ebrake boot), Wesco Roadster retract seatbelts, bluetooth RetroSound radio & new speakers, Rota RB wheels with new tires. Yes, there's a few more things on my list, but I think I'll have to hire them out so saving up for them, suspension & A/C.
  6. Not to worry. My 71 240Z sat for 14 years, covered and garaged (Utah is pretty low humidity). I did a stupid thing and bought a series 1 930 Porsche Turbo Carrera. Turned out it was just like a boat. The 2 happiest days of the Porsche were the day I bought it and the day I sold it, what a money pit to maintain! Once sold I decide it was time to wake up the Z. Like you, Ztherapy rebuilt carbs, drained and dropped the tank, flushed all the metal fuel lines replaced all the rubber fuel lines and sealed the tank. Converted to an electric fuel pump since these cars are wired for it from the factory. New Champion 3 row radiator with new hoses. ZX dizzy so no points to deal with. Found my rear brake cylinders were frozen so replaced with the newer 73 - 76 cylinders from MSA (no way I was going to spend $800+ for original early car cylinders) and a friend had the tools to rebend the lines to attach to the new cylinders. Slave clutch was toast so I did the master and slave. Changed tranny and dif oil. When I changed the engine oil I added a pint of TVT green to the Gibbs HR1 oil, cranked the engine some by hand just for fun. I also did the MSA 6to1 ceramic headers with 2.5 exhaust all the way out, used a Magnaflow 10426 for a resonator in the tunnel with a Magnaflow 13216 muffler at the end, nice note and not too load. When I did all this in 2017 there were 105K miles on the car and I've probably only put 15K on since then. I've never touched the carbs since I put them on the car. We do have ethanol free fuel available and I have never used anything else since this wakeup work was done, if it's available in your area, use it! Other than the exhaust install from the headers back and rebuilding the carbs I did about all of this by myself in my late 60's. It's a fair weather toy now, go to some cruise ins and shows for fun and some weekend cruising with friends. This is my 2nd Z, bought in '90, loved the first one and now this one! At the time I think I was pretty close to your $10K.
  7. Must be a non-US intake. Also missing a bunch of fittings on the balance tube for US EPA gadgets.
  8. @carlpaul Pictures of the reanimation or it didn't happen. Probable "Spot the bot" as CO would say.
  9. No apology needed. This happened in my University days. I got in big trouble with my parents when I showed up on the front page of the newspaper for participating in the campus protests. "Four dead at Kent State, the war continues to escalate, students strike now" was the chant.

  11. Have you considered the MSA headlight upgrade harness? It doesn't require any wire cutting and is completely reversable. It takes the headlight power directly from the battery eliminating the load on the fuse box and headlight switch and also changes the headlight plug so the high/low headlight power does positive power switching (like a standard US car) rather than ground switching like Datsun used. 12. Charles, Nice family photo in the garage for the Build Threads category! I'll bet the kids are a bit bigger now.
  13. Looks like you might have some weather to contend with over the next few days for driving. It would be fun to hear the exhaust note and the sound of those horns breathing. It has been fun watching the build! We played Bonner Ferry and also the course up in Creston when we had a condo in Sandpoint. There's another course we played that's on the road heading east from Sandpoint that was called Hidden Lakes but I think the name has been changed. Oh and there was the afternoon sitting in the "husband" area of the Coldwater Creek store, I was almost thinking my wife got lost in the store.
  14. One note on the stepped washers. If you use the ceramic coated 6 to 1 headers from MSA the stock stepped washers for a 240z should work just fine. I don't know if the flange thickness on the stock 280 exhaust manifold is the same thickness as on the 240 so this is also a consideration on the stepped washers. I did have to do a slight grind job on the thermostat housing to allow enough clearance for the MSA header flange. MSA also says you should use their header specific intake/exhaust gasket with their headers. Don't know if the thermostat housing interference I had on my 240z would also be true with a 280z thermostat housing. MSA 6 to 1 Ceramic Header Problem - Exhaust - Classic Zcar Community
  15. Yours is the only sig I don't see!
  16. I see sigs for everyone including myself, but no sig for @Yarb
  17. The L28 is the correct motor for a 1975 USA 280Z car. It does appear that the serial number on your block 413582 does not match the serial number on the id plate in the 4th picture of your first post in this thread that shows a SN 014280 or maybe 6 for the last digit. Possible that the motor was replaced. The plate in your first post does identify the motor as a L28.
  18. Doesn't the 280 have a plate on the passenger wheel well with the engine size and serial number like my 240 has?
  19. I presume you reported it like Mike asked.
  20. It just goes to show you, there's different strokes for different folks... The bid on the red one is already higher than the bid went to on the green 280Z.
  21. Could this be it that I posted a couple of years ago?
  22. That coolant line goes through my 12/70 intake manifold so it's been in the cars since before the "big" changes starting in HLS30-21000. I vaguely remember in my '73 it seemed like it also looped to go through each carb which is not the case in my current car.
  23. The bracket isn't on my 12/70 car either, could have been deleted when that hose was replaced. But from your reference picture it appears to be a early car as it has the metal fan.
  24. Not sure what and red interior hardware springs you're referring to? I did get my seat foam from MSA and the leather seat upholstery from Interior Innovations. The seat foam is substantially cheaper at MSA vs from Interior Innovations.
  25. I also used an electric knife on my seat foam and it worked just fine.
