My Datsun 240Z
Fun thing is the 71 that went on BAT for 310k, also has the air cleaner without the flap ( like I have on it now ).. but does have the steel fan also.. Factory must have been putting on it whatever they had laying around in the time. I notice the steel fan is greyish color or is it yellow zinc coated? Anybody know the oem color for it ? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-240z-124/

My Datsun 240Z
Okay. I will check the shield when taking it out of storage. But the picture I posted above must be how it came from the factory, this is only a few years after he bought it new ( maybe 5 ). So the air filter house pictured with the flap must and the metal radiator fan must be the correct one that came with the car. The later plastic fan I have now was allready on, and the air filter was a wrong 73 one for the flattops, so I found this early one, but this is without the flap. I might source a metal fan, and put it on, just for the correct ness, but the air filter i'll leave this way, hate the flap thing.

My Datsun 240Z
Was just looking at a picture from the first owner in late 1970's.. seems my 240Z originally had the steel riveted fan ( early ).. somehow must have been changed to the later plastic one some point in time. Also the air cleaner is different, but it didn't came with that one anyhow when I bought it. I now have the early one without that winter choke thing or what is it?

Okay.. different markets offcourse. I don't know what was the RON rating of regular gasoline back in the day in the US ? I thought I saw somewhere the L24 required minimal of 95 RON ? The fuel RON rating offcourse affects timing also..

It's pretty clear the carpets don't fit Mart. I hope they solve it and send the good ones back to you without charge. ( only you pay NL tax ) Welcome to my world… i've ordered ALOT from, the states, and many mistakes to, cost me alot of money sadly. I find it sad these days ( also here in NL ) most companies only want to MAKE money, but when there is a problem, it takes AGES to solve, or worse it will not be solved AT ALL. Where is customer service gone to ? With my company I still stand with these old values, but it seems almost none are to be found anymore these days that really care about their customers. Just want to get rich quickly.

5 BTDC is laughable though. 12 to 15C initial gives way better performance.

It was done by enthusiast's to distinguish them from one and another. There is no such thing. S30 is the series. ( chassis style ). The Z car is not unique in this, mostly all cars from that era had changes ( improvements ) occuring throughout the months/years.
-

It is definitely NOT. S30 = SERIES ( chassis )

Yes . Like I said if you look at it in that way, offcourse the L24 us specs will be lame as **** on the track.

As I see it..series 1,2 3 etc doesn't exist. I could come from Carl like you said, I don't know but someybody gave that term to it. In those years, not with the S30 alone, but with many car manufacturers developments and new changes where adopted constantly into the design. So changes ( improvements ), occured along the way with no specific date.

He's talking about factory rated crankshaft output, NOT gear ratios, diff ratio's and track times that affect this By the way the L24 is rated 110kw and the S20 119kw

Well then if he wasn't so important for Nissan or the S30 succes in the US according to you, explain this then: https://www.automotivehalloffame.org/honoree/yutaka-katayama/ https://www.nissan-global.com/EN/HERITAGE/LEGENDS/LEGEND_02/index.html https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2015/02/23/national/former-nissan-executive-known-father-z-sports-car-dies-105/#.XjM7hkBFzIU https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a15357465/yutaka-katayama-father-of-the-datsun-z-dead-at-105/ So your saying all these sources are lying ?

I have to say it's alot of money offcourse. But like said earlier a whole new generation withs lots of cash is coming to this world... Must say I saw this coming years ago allready, when there was a sudden value rise in the average 240Z.. knowing it can only go up more once these things get older and rarer. It's the same with the muscle cars… not so much, but try to buy a decent 71 chevelle ss 454 ? You will pay big bucks...

He didn't design it for sure, but he made it a succes in the states. People make mistakes, I did to

That white striping with 240z letters on the side is not original correct ? Is it a sticker or painted on later ? I'm always sceptical when it comes to " survivor " cars.. along the way usually something is restored on it, but they don't tell it.

Mint '71 240Z - More Fun Coming to BaT
I was looking into a Dino project a few years ago, but IMO they are asking way to much money for that car cause it's a " Ferrari "... I'm not going to give $^!# loads of cash for a rusty crusty restoration project myself. Not going to fall into that trap again.

Exactly my thoughts. Always in the back of my mind í'm afraid some a-hole will put a nice long scratch on it when it's parked somewhere in a busy area.. or kick a mirror of or something. Some people just can't behave towards stuff they can't afford themselves...
