Brisbane Easter Z Car Nationals
Ok guys, change of plans for me. The guy that was going to drive us up dogged it so I'll have to drive my other car (ie. not the Z) up with another mate of mine. We'll be leaving on Saturday afternoon so we should get there in the wee hours of Sunday morning. This means I'll be sleep deprived and stumbling around the show on Sunday so please excuse us if we look like we've just taken some drugs. Can someone give me the address of Calamvale Hotel and let me know what time it starts? Also, if you guys want to you can pm me with your mobile numbers so that we can get in touch while I'm there. My number is 0438 438 567. Look forward to meeting you. Cheers

Tare Weight
From what their tech department told me I gather that the public weigh bridge is for modified vehicles and used in blue slip situations. Basically they want to determine that they will receive their correct registration fee after all modifications have been carried out. As for weight bridge and old cars, alot of things could have happened to them radically changing the weight over the years. So, when it comes to getting an engineers report approved they wish to verify the original weight of the car. Reason, the car was engineered/designed to withold so much torque/power. By introducing this formula of "Tare Weight X 0.294" (and all the other formulas) they are ensuring your safety. On this point I can't see why you couldn't reinforce the chassis and get that engineered also but laws are laws I guess.

Happy Birthday Ozzy Guy
Geoff, hopefully I'll be meeting you this coming Wednesday. I think I'll come along to your meeting in Bankstown. Carl, thanks mate. I know you mean well but I didn't need to hear that. Lachlan, cheers mate. Those strippers umm, err, gave me a woddy:cheeky: That's some good advice there Steve, especially the last bit. :classic: I'll try to remember that. Cheers

Happy Birthday Ozzy Guy
Oh, and nothing can help me with my insurance. I'm in the 'high risk' category apparently. And I guess the cheap Greenslip I was chasing will have to wait another 5 years seeing as how the insurance companies saw it fit to increase the threshold.:disappoin It's all good though. When you love cars as much as I do, you'd pay whatever they ask of you.

Happy Birthday Ozzy Guy
Yeah I'm a quarter of a century old as of yesterday. Thanks Geoff. :classic: ps. you're not from the Sydney Z club are you? I was speaking to Ben (R32 Skyline) and he mentioned that his girlfriends dad (I think that's what he said anyway) was Geoff from the Sydney club. I'm just putting two and two together here and hoping I get four.

Help- Water got in the car.
Thanks guys. I'm gonna have a good look at all the places you've recommended. Is there any way to improve the wipers? They're terrible in heavy rain. The blades are fairly new so that's not the problem. Carl, I think you might be right about the rubber boot. There was a fair bit of water around there. Jeff, all the water from the blower motor seems to have leaked onto the floor so that's solved that problem. Cheers.

Help- Water got in the car.
Last night was my B'day so a few us met up for a feed. We headed up to the north shore and all was fine until the heavens opened up and flooded the streets. It stopped raining so we thought we'd make a run for it. After everyone went off in their own directions I was left with two other cars heading south with me. It decides to rain again. So here's me driving with very very low visibility. Every so often a huge puddle greets me and gives the underbody a good wash. We went through this one puddle where all of our cars nearly suffocated and died in the middle of the road so we gave up and pulled into a service station. What I saw under full lights got me worried. The centre console where the ashtray is supposed to be (I don't have one so it's just a hole) was holding water about an inch deep. The passanger side floor looked soaked and upon turning on the air fans I could hear water in there. I got paper hand towels and soaked up all the water that I could at the time. This morning I soaked a bit more and it seems to be ok. Now, what else should I check and be worried about? All the water in the air vents seems to have gone but I don't know where else I should look. Also, what is that big round thing under the glove compartment? It had water dripping from it. Thanks for reading.

Tare Weight
That's fine Alan. Thanks for having a look. Speaking to a wide range of enthusiasts I've come up with lots of different figures ranging from 933 (yes that's right) to 1089 from a Haynes manual. That's a difference of 156kg! Steve, the engineer has advised me not to use a public weigh bridge as they can be rigged. What's to stop a person weighing down their car? For this reason the RTA are hessitant to accept those figures. They will check the figures with their records and reject the car. Not a desirable result after spending thousands of dollars.

Original Australian 240Z car manual
That's ok Rick. I've contacted the Sydney Z Club and one of the guys there helped me find one. I basically asked him to find the highest weight listing and he came up with 1089 from a Haynes manual. That's way higher than I expected.

Tools...
Well said. Couple of weeks ago I was working on the car and half my time was spent looking for the right tool. My garage atm is a black hole, I can never find what I'm looking for. It's a total mess although not of my doing. There's just no room for all the crap we've put in there. Fortunately I'll be moving at the end of the year so I can organise it well from the begining.

Number Plate
6 Mike. I think some states might have 7 but not too sure.
-
Number Plate
In NSW I own ONARUN (not on my car, in storage) For the Z I've searched on heaps of them but all taken. TWO-40Z I've tried to track down but no luck. 2FORTY is available in NSW DAT-40Z is available but I don't really like it I could go on and on but I think you are after other ideas like your username. If you want some ideas I suggest you look to other states and if there's something you like you try to see if it's available in your state. I've found some nice ones like this. See if you can figure this one out. It's not that hard. RU3L8R

Storing a car
Thorough description there Hayden. Thanks for sharing. My only question is why was it a mistake to bleed the brakes? Cheers

Tare Weight
Hmm, another call to their tech department is in order. I've spoken to them a few times and they've even faxed me their tech sheets which state the weight for the 240Z 'sedan'. There was no distinction between manual or automatic. Thanks Steve, I'll be harassing them tomorrow again.
