I'm not in a huge hurry either. But, I do know that this is a VERY ideal solution for people that need to have something done about the dash-cracks. Me? I found a brand new dash from Nissan. Cost me $750. It was a left-over dash from that 240z restoration project Nissan put on a few years ago.

Anyone have an MP3 player for their car yet? I haven't done this, but, it's a good idea. I'll get one soon. A lot of the newer car decks now have MP3 support playing from a CDROM that you create at home.
5. Contact MSA to see if they have a gear for you. If that doesn't work, you'll have to find a gear for your TH-350 for use on the 240z. It's a gear that fits into the tranny somewhere. I'm not familiar with that swap, sorry. Post a message over on the HybridZ site. Someone there might have an answer for you.
6. I'm sitting here listening to Led Zepplin and man... this stuff sure does rock. It's been awhile since I've gone through my MP3 collection -- currently 10GB. Just love the song, "You shook me".... Makes me want to get out on the road and cruise in the sunshine! Anyone else have favorite driving music?

One our local Z guys contacted them and asked for a sample of the dash material. I saw the samples and it appears that the material is much softer and will not crack with age (this is guaranteed). I wasn't able to compare the material to my original dash in order to see if the pattern was the same. I'll ask Scott to jump in on this discussion. -- Mike

Nonetheless, I'd still get a quote. Most quotes are only good for a certain period of time (usually 15-30 days). If I was them... I'd always quote AU dollars to make sure they are always making the same amount of money no matter what the exchange rate is like.

Ya, it wasn't a bad deal. Here's the original thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1330 And, make sure you get another quote because the exchange rate moves up and down all the time. Last week it was at .60 to our 1.00.

11. Received this from one of our members on the mailing list: ......let me share some lyrics to a novelty song I heard once some time ago on NPR’s Car Talk program. The song title AFAIK is Monster Truck. I drive a Monster Truck, With a big lightbar. Well it sure goes fast, But it don’t go too far. If I ever stop short, You’re gonna be dead, ‘Cause my bumper height’s the same as your head. Words to (I hope) live by when you drive a classic Z car. Bob Kroshefsky Marysville, OH
12. Wow, you have an early 240z becuase I don't see any storage compartments behind the seats. Nice find.
13. I was given a set of metal headlight buckets (sugar scoops) and it appears that the right one is in bad shape. Does anyone have a (metal) right headlight scoop available? I'm trying to finish the front of my car... Also needed: Lower front valance assembly. -- Mike

15. Cuong, If someone gives you a 2 or 3 star rating... I'll kick them off this site. No, just kidding. But, seriously, everything you do to that car is TOP NOTCH. I saw the stainless exhaust and became that much more envious of you. Although I don't think I'll modify my drive-train as much as you have (sticking with an L-series engine), your car is an inspiration to me. I can only hope that I will get that far and done similar quality work someday.

A man walks up to a woman in his office each day, stands VERY close to her, draws in a large breath of air and tells her that her hair smells nice. After a week of this, the woman can't stand it any longer, and goes to see Human Resources. Without identifying the guy, she tells them what the co-worker does, and that she wants to file a sexual harassment suit against him. The HR supervisor is puzzled by this, and asks, "What's sexually threatening about a co-worker telling you your hair smells nice? The woman replies, "It's Keith, the midget."

Yea, I'd like to do something to upgrade the wiring in the car... I have it out... might as well do something. In any case, I have to replace the connector that melted together. I'm thinking about adding an in-line fuse or some kind of screw-down block (similar to those used in car-stereo installations).

Hmm... my car was stock.

I wonder why it would get really hot? From what I know about electricity, the only reason it should get hot is due to the incorrect guage wire or some kind of resistance. Maybe this connector has the same problem as the connector in the fuse panel. It corrodes (at the connection) just enough to cause resistance. This causes the area to heat-up and melt the plastic. If I remember correctly, this connection is on the passenger side of the car near the heater core. Could be caused by moisture.
21. Call the guy and ask for a VIN. It will start with HLS30-

Has anyone taken a basically stock 240z and rewired it to use modern relay technology? Ie: Bringing the high amperage wiring outside the cockpit? (thanks to MikeW for helping me use the proper terminology)
23. Also ask the owner why the emblem has been relocated (hit a deer?) and how come the bumper rubber is missing.
24. Looks like that car has had some work done. The Z emblem on the hood is in the wrong spot. From that, I also see bumpers that were used on the 240z. (the 280z used larger bumpers causing them to stick way out from the car) From that view, it certainly "looks" like a 240z. But, since the body is the same from the 240z, 260z, and 280z, it's almost impossible to tell for sure. Can you give us more information? Ie: Does it have fuel injection, carbs (round or flat top), what's the VIN, etc...

Does anyone know why Nissan used two separate harnesses for the dash? I'm taking mine apart (ready for the new dash) and noticed it. In a few areas, some wiring crosses over from one harness to another. I will be going through the dash harness to refresh it. I'll probably replace all of the tape and a few connections. Since that was in the car (protected from the elements), most of the connections are in great shape. One of the bigger guage wires (white with red stripe) fused itself to the engine harness connection. I'll definitely replace that one. [m]
