Headlight Buckets - Left or Right...?
I completely agree, we all decide to what level we want our cars to be. Concourse, restoration, hybrid, modded, daily driver, or even a rat rod. We then all decide what is a fair price for making that a reality for ourselves. I've spent more on my car than I ever thought I would, but then I have also repaired it for a lot less than others have too. As long as it makes sense to the one doing it. Enjoy the ride.........

Headlight Buckets - Left or Right...?
Yeah that's the same eBay'er, It's $25.85 US (USPS) That's like $33 CN (if my math is right) to ship to you from WA. So still spendy if I were to get some and send them to you, but not as bad. I would do that if you wanted to get some. Assuming he does not jack up the shipping to me. The pieces would run $3.50 per set to me if his ad is true.

Headlight Buckets - Left or Right...?
Since I was in on this thread I might as well throw in another .02 cents. The ones from ZCD look exactly like the ones from Thailand only more money. IMO. ($21 shipped for 6 with screws. or 3 sets for $12) The screws look like flat heads but the plastic parts look like the correct shape. I love the ad too "Not Taiwan or China Product" Looks legit with 17000+ feedback and 99.6% pos. The Dorman ones look more like the 280ZX ones, again only looking at the pic's from the Thailand eBay ones. (JMO again) 3D printing might be an option, I just have not used anything 3D'ed yet so I really can't say much about the finished product. worth a shot if you can use the primer at a library like stated above. I know some FB peeps were making the inspection lid clips from polyurethane by making a silicon mold which might work too, but I am unfamiliar with that process as well. I tried removing some from old rusty headlight buckets but they usually broke in the process. Those things really grip in there. I was lucky to find this set of buckets with all of those intact. just a little clean up am I'm all set. I still would like to have some spares for down the road.

Headlight Buckets - Left or Right...?
I call these buckets too. I call the outer part a "scoop" but there are many other names for either of these parts. Same part from the front. Same orientation - top of pic is up.

Cool, glad to help out.

Headlight Buckets - Left or Right...?
Mine have a stamp near the top R or L and this set has an ink stamp which would probably not be there after powder coating. With the two indents in the outer circle the one adjuster is at 12 o'clock. From this rear view the left will have the other adjuster on the left at 9 o'clock, the right will be at 3 o'clock. The one in the pic is the left. (drivers side) I hope that helps

240Z GasTank vent hose??????
Look like you have your answer Don.

240Z GasTank vent hose??????
As I see it Don, most of the air that is displaced when filling the tank comes out of the filler hose, not so much from the vent hose. This is more for when you have the cap on and the engine is pulling fuel. That way you don't get vapor lock in the tank, It has to breathe. I have a tank out, and can measure the barb but it will be later this afternoon, that is if no one else can offer the spec before I get home from work.

Solid '71 Series I 240Z on eBay
Nice looking car. Over $13K now. The firewall stamp looks odd with the "1"'s that look like "L"'s I've not seen them like that the last 1 is up high too. The ID tag looks like it is missing the last 1. Maybe just the angle. The license plate frame lead me to a repair shop in L.A. They have an electric Z, and are selling it for $28k. http://operationz.net

What engine do I have?
Look below the head between the #5 and #6 plugs, just above the coolant split for the heater core. Looks like this : It will be L24 L26 or L28 and some numbers. I expect an L28 as N42 casting blocks are found in early 280's The head number is as stated above. N42 or N47 or something else as they do often get changed.

In Search of Early 240 SU Full Linkage Diagram
Just an observation, I was not implying you needed to fix it right away, just something to think about. I would think the coolant might not flow right is all. If you are even running the carb heater lines at all. Some do, some don't.

In Search of Early 240 SU Full Linkage Diagram
I am not sure about your insulator, it looks like it is in upside down. Here is a picture of how mine sits. Here are some pics of the firewall connections for the throttle as well, You asked for those too. I hope that helps.

Relay of some kind....what is it...?
Apologies, my information was incorrect. Those two relays look very similar, including the wire color. Looks as if you're in good hands though........

Relay of some kind....what is it...?
Mine is found under the righthand side of the dash on the relay panel that mounts to the passenger kick panel. It has part number 25230-89914 which is an intermittent wiper relay. 4 prong connector with 3 wires. Discontinued by Nissan but I did find this https://zparts.com/index.php/product/240z-intermittent-wiper-delay-relay-25230-89914/ $75 seems a bit steep to me. I hope that helps some.

240z HHH (Hatch Hinge Handedness)
Check the welded metal tang on the hatch itself too. Some tear out and then are poorly repaired.

thoughts on 5spd and diff combos
I ran the 83 5 speed with 3:54 as well and liked it. Although 5th was a little sluggish, good for highway cruising. I switched the rear end out with the 3:70 (Maxima) and gained a little more punch out of it. All the 5 speeds are still 1:1 in fourth so it is the same as 4th in the four speed. There was that one ZX transmission shown for 10 months in '79-'80 that had the in between ratio, but that is hard to find. The tallest diff would be the 3:36, standard on the 4 speed 240's and some 280's. The 3:54 came in the automatics. 240 280 and ZX.

Uh-oh looks like I snagged a photo without paying the royalty fee. ? Your .0296 cents is in the mail. I bet a lot of the google images are from this and other forums.

Front Suspension Issues
What I have seen happen, is that there is a D shape to the strut hat. The strut piston has a corresponding D shape to it. That is what keeps the inner shaft from spinning when you tighten the nut. If the D shape gets rounded out the nut will spin the piston shaft and it will not tighten. (I just grabbed this pic off the web to show the D notch in the hat). If you look under the fender at the strut while turning the nut and see the inner strut piston turning as well the the hat is probably rounded out. Like what @siteunseen indicated. The proper fix is to take it apart and find another hat. Zip off the nut with an impact gun and see if the hat is rounded out, and see if you did in fact strip the nut. You could impact drive the nut down to tighten it but that is not a proper fix. Just a possibility......

Parts Wanted: WTB : Inner headlight shell 240Z Right side (Passenger)
View Advert WTB : Inner headlight shell 240Z Right side (Passenger) After an encounter with a deer, I am looking for some parts I did not have good examples of in my used parts hoard. Namely, the passenger side inner headlight shell as seen in the pics. The inner adjustment ring is still good but the outer shell and the outer trim ring are damaged. I have seen the ones on eBay and right sides are only in pairs as assemblies and rather pricey. From what I understand 240-280 will work they just have different wires. If you have a nice shell like the one pictured please contact me. I offer paypal or trades if you need something. [2019] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
You were lucky. I have clipped a deer with my daily. Just a small scratch in the bumper. Lucked out that time. If I could only reverse the impacted cars. I’d rather have the daily smashed and a scratch on the Z. ?

[2019] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
The gold zinced shell behind the headlight It mounts to the inside of the fender it also holds a inner ring the the bulb mounts to so the headlight can be adjusted. Not sure what Nissan calls it but it is discontinued. I have one but it is rather rusted.

[2019] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
My encounter did not turn out so well. (July 22nd) The deer /car impacts around here have been on the rise this year. Fortunately no frame damage, and no serious injuries just small glass cuts. Just settled with the insurance, so on the way to being repaired. Deer Shat on the fender, I almost shat my seat when she hit the windshield. Stay safe out there....... My wife is understanding my parts hoarding now, as I have most of the parts to fix her up. I am still looking for a nice inner headlight bucket.

71 at Copart in Arlington WA
Wow, that is some serious rust going on there. You sure don't see that in the original ad. it really pays to go see them in person. I hope you find something you can build on and use some parts from this. I knew that turbo was something odd. Cessna huh? interesting.
