  1. Look into the Mallory fuel pump on summit or jegs. It is internally regulated at around 3 psi and is VERY quiet.
  2. Great questions. It does seem to have gotten louder the last time I back it out. I have felt some vibration while driving it that I don't recall. I assumed a tire was giving me grief, but I had them rebalanced and they were fine, but a little under inflated. Still I can feel it in the chassis, but not the wheel. No shifting into reverse or any other gear has never been hard.
  3. Every since I put in this type B transmission I have and a clunking in reverse that corresponds to speed that I hear every single time I back up and it is by far worse when cold. Never fully goes away though. I was going to do a fluid change just for kicks today. drained the fluid, no signs of a leak anywhere, in fact it was very clean still. Keep in mind this was a rebuild from zcarsource I installed before my rally. IT shifts fine and drives fine. But it has always clunked when in reverse backing up. Clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk when I back up. The fast I back up the faster it clunks. Never had this issue ever with my old Type A transmission that came with the car. So, It made this clunking with the old OEM diff an the new STI diff. When I checked the drive shaft ujoints (same drive shaft I have always used) It feels great and solid. NO slack in the joints. But the output flange of the drive shaft that interfaces with the splines of the transmission moves up and down in my hand a bit. You can see it, feel it and hear it. I know the input shaft to the transmission has some movement, no worries there, but I am pretty sure the output shaft is not suppose to move, nor is there suppose to be any slop on the spline interface to my knowledge. When I move it up and down it sounds like the source of my clunk, clunk, clunk (nice onomatopoeia huh?) So In you guys memory, is this output flange suppose to have any movement? This is just a dandy excuse to get a 5 speed sooner...
  4. You mean we should do exactly what the brain damaged 911 people are doing? 130k for a longnose carrera S is just pure insanity.
  5. Mike, I will be ordering one of these was well. It is just too sweet not to try.
  6. Mike this thread is epic, you KNOW I am about to buy this right. I love being able to switch out my curves and maximize my ignition advance where possible without having to pull the dizzy time and time again. I will PM you with more details. YOu are right, 550 is chump change for a great working dizzy.
  7. PM me for that dash if nix 240Z does not pick it up. I will buy it. Period. EDIT: Are there any difference between the 72 dash dash and the 71? EDIT of my EDIT: I do not care, PM me.
  8. The cover for the Datsun cover will definitely fit the STI diff cover. I can tell you that for certain. I forgot why I removed the half shafts, probably just to get them off and clean them. But also they may have been in the way to my exhaust. I wanted to install new high strength steel bolts and nuts in there that were clean and freshly cad plated as well.
  9. is the R160 the same externally as the R180? Is this going into a Z?
  10. For any normally aspirated car, for the most part, looking for huge gains in intakes, is a waste of time. AS long as their is not a huge restriction I would buy would will provide the cleanest air, and what is easiest to service, and what looks the best. IF you net 2 HP more from a cold air set up, you will never notice it. I have chased Cold air intakes on other cars for years, and most of it is placebo. Go with what you like, and makes you smile when you pop the hood
  11. When I installed my RX7 pump it was only putting out about 2 psi on my fuel system, your results may vary, but I went with an internally regulated Mallory pump and it was very quiet and puts out 3.5 psia reliabily.
  12. For the price of that kit I am sure I could buy an alfa!!!
  13. I demand pictures of that interior please. I have been considering a red interior to my 901 silver Z. Ever since I saw that singer 911 in silver/red. I have been hooked.
  14. You guys are great. I mean really great! Thanks so much. The Z will be staying.
  15. Its the regret that scares me. Having a piece of japanese history in my garage with the looks and pedigree to back up the performance is just a blessing to own. I know I will miss the performance of the L28!
  16. Already have that on my to do list. But when I get home today, I will take the Z out for a spin and I bet I will be cured of this silly fling!
  17. Okay the Etype is a no brainer. If I ever found one I could actually afford to own/drive I would put the Z out to pasture tomorrow. I know sad, but even a not running the Etype is still one of the most beautiful cars I have ever laid eyes on. It is just stunning from any and all angles. The 2000GT, well lets just say I am not millionare. And the italian with the heart of a Ford, those things have a look all their own. We all have our secret love affairs with cars. The alfa is just one of mine. The yellow one makes me quiver!!!
  18. Being 100% serious. Not really having a Z to talk about with you guys is one of the major reasons for NOt doing this. I love this site!!!
  19. I have always had an insane love for alfa GTV's. I have been thinking of selling the Z and picking up an Alfa GTV 1750 or 2000. I know the all the drawbacks and tradeoffs. I know the history. I just cannot get it out of my system, and I cannot have two cars at once. I figure if I sold the Z for a fair price, I could save up for a year and then find a very good condition GTV. I know there are parts catalogs out there. Does anybody have any experience with the mythologically beautiful cars to tall me, HELL NO, it is a mistake? I adore my Z. Love driving it. It has been and could be fun for the next 20 years. But what do you do when you cannot stop looking at Alfa's.:tapemouth
  20. May be getting my 901 silver painted within a year as well. This intrigues me.
  21. It just replaced the strap that goes over the diff with a solid piece of metal with a bushing on it. It should be technically stronger than the strap as you can wedge the diff against the OEM mount and the hard rubber bushing. Problem you will encounter is that you will will hear more gear whine with it, as solid connections transmit more noise to the cabin. Everything is a trade off man!
  22. Did you seriously not see my thread RIGHT below yours! HAHA Yes a subaru diff will work, and flanges can be found to work.
  23. love it… just wonderful to see, but I have to make a comment that saddens me a bit Every notice how when it comes to these types of innovations and these types of DIY stuff that involves working with your hands, that it is always an older gentlemen. The art of making things with your hands seems to be going the way of the dinosaur. I hope to teach my youngest kid to work on wood and make furniture like I do. There is something therapeutic about working with wood.
  24. good advice. Just a note, since you mentioned the clutch alignment tool. I distinctly remember how hard it was to get that darn thing out once I tightened down the pressure plate. I actually popped out the ball and hoop that is inside the tool Once, I had to use a vice grip and hammer to tap it out. It was that tight. I have installed clutches in Camaros and Jeeps, and never had that issue. Maybe I am just being lazy. But if I drop the transmission again, I will definitely be getting the car 6" higher than last time. I struggled for a while getting that bell housing under the car, as the frame rail with the T/C rod was just not high enough. So I was not working smartly. I will definitely get a better transmission jack, as my harbor freight jack had exactly ONE good use until the gears stripped! HAHA. I will get this working no doubt. Just need to source a solid good 5 close ratio 5 speed first.
  25. I struggled to mate the current transmission to the engine for 2 days of ramming it forward and pulling it back. It just never lined up. I made some long studs to help guide it in. Nope. I finally gave up and pulled the engine and put it on a wooden stand and then slid the transmission while on a transmission jack to the engine, and it was still hard. I am not sure why. These things should just align and go in. But who knows why it gave me such greif. If I could get the car up higher it would not be an issue I think. It may be time to buy a big boy jack.
