I had a tow bar on my 71 Dodge Colt that used the same mounting method as the one on eBay. It uses the shear strength of the bottom of the tire well and the shear strength of the tail light panel. So if you have any major rust in these areas this hitch will not work for your car. The one that I had worked very well and I towed a Sunfish Sail boat all over the southern San Joaquin Valley and to Denver Co and back one summe. Total tow weight was ~500lbs and tongue weight of ~50lbs

I have purchased, and sold on eBay. I have only had one bad purchase and one bad sell over ~150 items so I am fairly happy. Before I started selling I decided that I would set up my auctions so the shipping was never a surprise. I did this because it pissed me off when shipping is was excessive. If they are the 6 point rims, on eBay they go from $150 - $250 without tires. If they have the center caps and are polished with no curb rash they cold bring $500 but that is tops. But keep in mind that eBay is up and down and if selling locally they may not be as desirable.

I you may want to think about putting in a shallow work pit so you do not have to jack the car up. I did this when I changed the trany on my 620 Pickup. Gee guys I have a friend of a uncle that works for an oil company and says-to change your oil very 3000 miles so I am super picky and change my strut oil every 1500 miles just to be safe:bandit: I would check the oil at every fillup up them dam gas stations will not let me drink beer at the islands while I am working . . . where the heck has customer service gone ???

Does a 78 have a "cat" ? If so it may be shot. I have 92 Saturn and it did not pass smog due the HC being very high ~900. I installed a new "cat" and it dropped it way below passing. Also if your smog pump is not providing enough fresh air your "cat" may not be able "clean" the exhaust stream. FYI The purpose of the EGR valve is to recycle exhaust gases into the intake stream which results in cooler combustion temps which results in less NOx. So unless the NOx readings are high it is unlikely that the EGR has a problem. PS I got a “cat” at Kragen for $79. Good Luck

I have seen some pre 74 cars with the gauges held in with the straps that come down from the top of the dash across the back of the gage then down to the top of the openning for the radio/AC/etc. The strap is held in with a single phillips screw. I do not know when the mounting changed from the L bracket to the strap.

Hey just put a surplus ICBM up their a**. When I was a young man in college drove truck off highway in Nevada and the guys that I worked with had lost there licenses, very scary people. I now today if I want to be scared I just stop by a truck stop and see the "slack jaws" long haulers. The good thing the highway patrol does here in CA on I-80 coming down from the Donner Summit is drive small cars at the speed limit and catch truckers that intimate drivers

When this war started I was against it, I was against it do to the lost of life that was going to happen on both sides. But once it started selected my side and that was in support of my country’s and ally’s forces. I lived through the Vietnam time, my father and brother both went to Vietnam and came home. It bothered me greatly when I saw again the look in the eyes of people that when they tell me that someone in their family is in Iraq, I was being ripped back to the 60’s and Vietnam, I was not comfortable with these feelings. Living in a free society we have the ability to read and say what we want. With that freedom we also have the ability to learn where we are correct and incorrect. In my case I have learned that Saddam Hussein and his party were truly evil people based on the information that is coming from many sources in Iraq. We now have a new challenge of providing the freedom for “freedom” to grow in Iraq without other evil people gaining control. A fine line to walk. Will we make mistakes? Yes, Will it work? I hope so, but at least we have the freedom to make those mistakes a correct them. I hope that in 20 years we can look back and the good that has come out of this war.

He then, however, said this: "Please bear with me as I deviate from the script, but I want you all to know that simply by coincidence you have been granted both the privilege and honor of escorting the body of Army PFC Howard Johnson, Jr. home tonight. PFC Johnson was killed in Iraq defending the freedoms we all enjoy, and fighting to extend hose freedoms to the people of Iraq. We are also accompanied by PFC Johnson's cousin, Marine Sergeant Major Talley, who has been chosen by the family to escort PFC Johnson home. Semper Fi!" The plane quickly became very quiet, but soon erupted in thunderous applause that lasted for several minutes. It was quite moving, to say the least. As I sat there thinking about what the pilot had said, and visualizing PFC Johnson's body riding below me in the belly of that plane, I noticed a couple of things. Two rows in front of me sat a father holding his daughter, an infant, and they were practicing "ma-ma" and in the row behind me was another young boy, probably 2 or so, learning to count to 10. Now obviously both are too young to realize we're at war, or that one of our dead was with us, but it made me think, and this is the point: These warriors, mostly young, all volunteers, everyday are prepared to give their lives for our future, for a safer, more secure future for people they don't even know, all based on the principle that fighting and dying for freedom of others is worth it. By the way, the flight ended with all of us deplaning only to line the windows of the gate house to watch PFC Johnson's body, draped in the American flag, be rolled out of the plane and into a waiting hearse that was surrounded by his family members. Long live the United States of America and other free nations and the freedoms for which they stand!

peterpit I am no expert on the law but I would remove your prior post ASAP. From what we have heard he is an arse but you may have stepped over the line when publishing his address. I would hate to see you and this site get in trouble. If you do remove your smog equipment do not throw it away, because there is an assembly bill (AB 708) that is in commitee that would require pre 74 model year motor vehicles driven more that 12,000 per year to be smog checked. I wrote the bill's author and this is what I got back. Thank you for contacting my office and sharing your thoughts on SB708. In January of this year, I was appointed Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Air Quality in the Central Valley. To date, the committee has conducted four hearings and nine more are scheduled to be held this year.After all the hearings, a report to the legislature will be submitted detailing the committee's findings from the hearings. Why have I undertaken this initiative to clean up our air? Air pollutants in the San Joaquin Valley have gone up 17 percent in the last three years alone. According to the Los Angeles Times, air pollution is to blame for more deaths in the San Joaquin Valley in the last three years than car accidents and murders combined. The San Joaquin Valley has surpassed Los Angeles as the worst air basin in the state and the second worst in the country. The asthma rate for children in Fresno County is the highest in California - twice that of Los Angeles and triple the national average. Without swift and decisive intervention, this problem promises to escalate into a public health crisis, if it isn't already. In response to this, I have introduced ten bills targeted at cleaning the air in the San Joaquin Valley. SB708 is one of those bills. Unfortunately, what much of the public does not understand is that SB708 is a work in progress, and amendments have been written since the original version was first circulated. Our bill has two important objectives. First and foremost, I want to get the worst gross polluters off the road, to mitigate ozone emissions into the air. Second, I am working hard to preserve and protect the rights of car owners who keep well-maintained older vehicles, many of them classic cars, as enacted in SB 42. SB708, with our most recent amendments, will require vehicles over 30 years old which are driven 12,000 or more miles a year to get a smog check. Cars which are not used as a primary vehicle, driven on a dailty basis, should not fall under this definition. The collector car industry representativeswe have worked with so far agree that this is a fair compromise which protects collectors and hobbyists, while cutting down on auto emissions. My staff and I have worked diligently on this issue. We have conducted more than 30 hours of meetings on the subject, returned hundreds of phone calls and collaborated with prominent people within the classic car industry - even Jay Leno himself. Steve Davis, one of the leaders of the initiative that became SB42, has worked closely with our office to craft SB708 in a way that protects the classic car hobbyist and targets only gross polluters. We are confident that the amended SB708 will prevent gross polluters fromtaking advantage of SB42 and undermining the purpose of the 30-year rollingexemption.
